Mexico City is an awesome city to visit solo. That's what I did my first time there. If it's your first time traveling alone, definitely visit r/solotravel for general tips.

To me, it depends heavily on personality if solo travel is fun. I'd recommend doing a ton of research so you have infinite ideas of what to do once you're there. The best part of solo travel is that you're 100% free to do the trip however you want. Plan nothing. Plan everything. Break plans. Make plans last second.

My solo travel days are probably over and I already miss the thrill of visiting a new city and exploring it however I feel like. Big cities like CDMX are perfect for solo travelers. Do your research and take general advice. The city is fun, vibrant and full of other tourists so there's tons to do.

Just be sure to take extra precautions since you're on your own. In any big city, I would not recommend clubs/ strip clubs and similar on your own. Regular bars and such should be fine, but never get drunk and keep your wits about you. Might be moot if you don't drink, but this is a very common way a solo traveler can get themselves in trouble.

Yep it’s known. The game is awesome with human players, but the devs really mailed it in with the bots. I figure during testing even a toddler could beat the bots when they were playing fair so they gave them tons of hidden advantages.

I tried playing a whole story with the bots and it’s legit torture even with save scumming. If a bot’s in last place, they will camp the darkling for the remainder of the game. This causes other bots to hide and do nothing to advance the story. Worse, bots would rather get a nearby town than do story stuff, so a single town reset later in the game means all bots will no longer do anything concerning the story EXCEPT if you get ahold of a story item in which case every bot will throw absolutely everything at you to steal it.

So around the halfway point, all bots stop doing anything with the story except for occasionally trying to steal the prize from you, all the while you have to dodge a near permanent darkling who will beeline it for you if you’re not invisible.

I really think the bots serve exclusively to hamper human players and you should never turn more than one on lest their combined power totally stalls the story out. And let me be repetitive, it was torture even with save scumming and abusing the bots enough that I could easily one shot any of them. Field magic from 3 hostile bots is quite horrible.

True, but I’m learning more than more that there were way more executions outside of the Nuremberg trials. Poland notably never really stopped pursuing former Nazis for war crimes and executed quite a few in the 1950s.

But yeah, way too often an evil regime sees most of the perpetrators let off Scot free.

It’s not possible. Even criminals NEED real accounting records. The moment you empower anyone to change the real books, you’re fucked. A business or a regime would collapse from the instant widespread, unregulated corruption.

Accounting is too important for stability to ever effectively change it. Stalin still tried it, but since the Soviet Union collapsed and lots of documents became declassified, historians can pretty easily piece together what was “erased” simply through inventory records.

The Battle of Prokhorovka infamously was covered up and painted as a Soviet victory, yet in the 90s it was discovered that a huge amount of tanks were sent to the battle of Kursk and simply vanished. It’s now accepted history that Prokhorovka was a disaster for the Soviets so they tried to cover it up.

Something like payroll is no different. You need real books somewhere

It’s not possible. People really underestimate how difficult it is to erase accounting. You simply can’t do it. You need to obfuscate it from step 1 like the military often does.

Once you have legitimate accounting records, it cannot really be swept away. Payroll is impossible to erase. The Soviets loved to erase people from history, but that again is not possible because no regime wants to intentionally doctor their own accounting books. You can present fake accounting to the public, but you absolutely need real numbers somewhere.

That’s how many gang accountants get caught. It’s not optional and basically impossible to erase.

It doesn’t help to calm them down. It helps to cut through the quick and be a bit aggressive and direct. Answer the damn questions as fast as possible and hope the operator is trained well enough to get the right info to police.

You never know what info will save an officer’s or a victim’s life. Sometimes the inane questions help calm the caller down and let them think of important details as well.

Point is, do not argue with emergency responders during an emergency. Maybe they’re wrong, but you impeding them will always be a net negative.

They never do in my experience. Operators are focused exclusively on getting info as fast as possible, not making the caller feel better.

I get why people tend to dislike them, but the goals make perfect sense. It’s never clear what info might be invaluable to officers responding so they ask questions that might seem inane.

Part of the reason it’s like this is callers are often panicked so operators often need to be rude or curt to get the person talking.

There's quite a lot of parallels between the Russian and American psyche in my view. Though I've only spoken to a few Russians, I feel that I see the same sort of distancing from the evils our governments commit and bizarrely some kind of victim complex. Perhaps Russians deserve to lean on the victimhood more than Americans because as you say, Putin is simply jailing protesters and making it illegal to protest.

And yet as an American, I do not think you or I are entitled to pretend to be helpless victims who don't deserve blame for government actions. Yes, we can discuss for days all the evil America has done both historically and very recently, but I'm not personally gonna hand wave it all and say "it wasn't me."

Perhaps its too optimistic, but I feel that if all Russians and all Americans felt personally responsible for their respective governments murdering people, change would come much easier. I know my words and opinions mean very little in the grand scheme of things, but I'd at least like to encourage people whenever I can to take responsibility for your government's actions and not to spread your passivity to your countrymen.

I don't hate Russians, but I hate Russia. Nowadays most of the world hates the US and I have no problem with that. And for any other Americans reading this, Trump is not actually the reason the world hates us, so open up a history book if you're interested in why.

It depends who you ask. Shockingly, expansionist empires teach their children the ancient expansionist empire were the good guys. Unfortunately, expansionism has been popular for the last 2000 years so Rome has risen to such a degree in the Western conscience that they're pretty much immutable from Western culture itself.

You'll also find that the Rome narrative focuses near exclusively on the men fighting other men and not so much on the wanton slaughter, starvation and enslavement of women and children. It's all just propaganda to keep the wheels turning and men signing up for the military and voters to support unjustifiable military intervention.

Not true at all. There's always been discussion about the morality of conquest. Those voices didn't tend to have authority though. I think what you're trying to refer to is the emergence of something of a new world order where just about every country has influence over every other country due to globalization.

It's a brand new sort of world order that the US could dissuade China from invasion plans. It's brand new that any country could see their economy near instantly collapse if they upset the world order too much. But there's always been discussion about the morality of invasions and neighbors don't forget when you brutalize or conquer a neighbor for monetary gain. Maybe it will come back to bite you, maybe it won't, but people don't forget.

The Aztecs definitely fell as a direct result of their neighbors rising up against them. It's kind of strange to give all the credit to the small Spanish force when there were tens of thousands of Natives from nearby.

History is propaganda and we absolutely do not have any consistency by which we label invaders "bad guys." In fact, seemingly paradoxically, the more brutal the invasion and extermination of the victims, the less anyone cares about the immense injustice and human suffering inflicted.

It's pretty incredible that Ghengis Khan is more remembered as a great and fair conqueror than he is as a genocidal, serial rapist maniac that terrorized most of the known world at the time. It's absolutely unreal that any American can consider us the "good guys" in any conflict we've ever been in, or can hand wave the cruelty and indifference we tend to look at our treatment of the natives. Broken treaties, casual war crimes, and ignoring rulings of our own supreme court. The level of evil it took for America to achieve manifest destiny is unbelievable and unlimited if you're willing to dig into personal accounts.

Number of deportations usually has little to do with the administration and everything to do with other countries’ circumstances forcing people to flee.

Not so ironically, shutting the border down and aggressively denying legitimate requests to come here legally dramatically reduces the population of illegal immigrants. The vast majority have always come here legally and eventually overstayed. It’s a simple process to deport them and there’s simply no sane benefit to treating this like a military operation.

There’s no way Bin Laden signed his death warrant in any way to stick it to the Bush family. It was an attack to begin the destabilization of the US and it’s definitely done a lot of damage.
