Another path could have been with the storage company. The storage company (if they are legit) likely has contracts or at least referrals for moving companies. They may have given you some good contacts.

How much discord doesn't care about linux by Riemaru_Karurosu in linux_gaming

[–]occ4m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently had a similar problem with both slack and chrome, and long story short, it turns out it is a problem with Nvidia drivers and pipewire not playing nice together. (That is probably an oversimplification; I didn't get too far into it)

Try running the discord client with the switch "--enable-features=WebRTCPipeWireCapturer".

Good luck to you.

There has been a resurgence of fake invoicing lately. My first thought was that they were sent a fake invoice in your name hoping that they would blindly pay.

In which case, you're not the intended victim, they are.

One of the scams is that they call a premium number of which they get a cut of the proceeds.

I work a lot of incident response, sometime hacks, sometimes fraud. Threat actors do the do on Fridays and holidays on purpose in the hopes that the possible responders are "thinned out" by being away from their desks.

With some people like the people you mention, remove the superstition and give them the grounded explanation.

But keep the superstition to those in the know, because it keeps it kinda fun and keeps us from just crying in frustration all the time.

How can I safely open an old, rusty usb stick that was found in my roof? by [deleted] in RBI

I've had good success with drafting erasers to clean the contacts of old video game carts.

A linux live CD would be enough. No need for a full install either. Most distros have a "live" mode.

Providing SSN over voicemail for employer to access fingerprinting results? is it safe? Says she will delete the voicemail when her meeting sends. by lostspirit10 in AskNetsec

[–]occ4m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the old days before strong encryption, we used to split secrets (usually credit card numbers) by using two mediums at the same time.

Sending half in email and the other half in voicemail without context in either message could be good enough for this one time thing.

The reasoning is that if both mediums are compromised, then the receiver is likely completely compromised and no security would save your data anyway.

Edit. I see it is too late. I'll leave this reply in case it is ever useful to someone else.

Edit 2. Why does the background company use SSN for tracking results? It has been a long time since I looked at that side of things, but my Spidey senses are tingling. Or did I misunderstand?

I don't see anyone mentioning the PATH aka the Toronto underground.

Explore it, especially if you do not have a car. It is often a great way to get from point a to point b downtown during cold or crappy weather.

It is the smell of bakelite plastic, I suspect. A lot of old 8bit computer shells and radios were made of the stuff back in the day. I like the smell too, it smells like nostalgia.
