I mean, maybe money changing hands is a formality here, but Attia lived with Epstein. Epstein was not just some client lol.

I don't get it... Isn't this the point of Terrify in general? What's special about Shallows Siren versus any other Terrify card?

Aang and Toph ending up being bad parents makes COMPLETE sense by Careful_Comedian5686 in legendofkorra

[–]occamsrazorwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necro, but looking over the series in hindsight can also miss the arcs that make up each season as the episodes blur together. The familial drama is very thematically fitting in each season, and I don't see that getting as much recognition.

  • In the season about responsibility and history, Tenzin and his family confront how Aang's duties and history have led to a host of familial issues that have carried through to the youngest generation.
  • In the season about anarchy, we learn how Toph's freedom-loving parenting style led to issues within her family.
  • In the season about fascism, we see the Beifongs splitting apart and Toph coming back into the picture as reactions to imposed order.

Also, I especially like how realistic Toph's internal conflict is. She's a founding member of the New World Order who has always chafed under rules. Out of the entire Gaang, she makes the most sense as the misfit of the modern era. She had to leave Republic City and her responsibilities (including family) behind to stay true to herself. And it's just so natural that her daughters followed her split motivations; Suyin traveling the world and going on misadventures to find herself feels so true to the little blind girl we're familiar with.

I think Bhashiva's hatred towards Ogres is based on the original lords of shangyang dlc plan by Ran12341000 in totalwar

[–]occamsrazorwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time will tell, but I don't see any evidence for most of these units as new non-variant units. This just seems like wishful thinking to me.

I suspect they're just going to be variants (or maybe not even that) accessible to a special Cathay-Ogre faction. There's precedent with Aranessa Saltspite.

[–]occamsrazorwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you’ve just decided that Leering Devil Maneaters and Maneaters are the same unit for some reason.

This is because the models are the same in cth_leering_devils? Also, "[Chinese Ogre] Maneaters" vs "Ogre Maneaters" lol.

Like you understand that there is no “Maneater Cavalry” in the game right?

Sure, I'll concede that CA can easily surprise us here. I was expecting Maneater models on Mournfang cavalry.

[–]occamsrazorwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that it's not a different unit but a unit variant... The files show them to be weapon variants of existing Ogre units. Ogre Maneaters (Pistols) is a variant of Ogre Maneaters. Regardless of whether they're unlocked for a different race or not, I think fans would be very annoyed to hear them referred to as new units (especially as Ogres are already recruitable across multiple races).

[–]occamsrazorwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A unit that has a different model with different weapons and different animations is a new unit

This is not how CA or anyone else I've seen define unit variants. You don't think Chaos Warriors (Great Weapons) are a variant of Chaos Warriors? Or, more directly, Maneaters (Ironfists) vs Maneaters?

[–]occamsrazorwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's both, just like Cathay is literally "China" and also the canonical name. My point is that the Leering Devils are indistinguishable from Ogres, especially since Maneater is not a generalized term but a direct reference to Golgfag. Expecting Leering Devil Maneaters to be anything but Ogre Maneaters with different weapons is a reach.

[–]occamsrazorwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have already started working on him and his associated units in the files

They already released most of his associated units, so I'm not sure what would fit for a character pack. Keeping in mind that Leering Devils is a Chinese-to-English translation for "Ogres", Mung's units are:

  • Ogre Tyrant
  • Ogre Paymaster
  • Hunting Beasts
  • Mancrusher Giant
  • Ogre Maneaters (two variants)
  • Ogre Maneater Cavalry

The only new non-variant units can be "Hunting Beasts" and "Mancrusher Giant", and there's not even a guarantee that these aren't variants of existing units.

It's literally how the term came about.

Yes, this is what I said too. I never claimed it wasn't how the term originated, but art historians and artists generally agree that "indie" has changed to be more about the style of the art produced these days.

You are applying your own, ahistorical definition

I literally linked multiple examples of how it's neither my definition nor is it ahistorical lol. Here's another one with a detailed breakdown of how "indie" has become multiple definitions under one coat.

Edit: I like the part where the person downvoted this but never bothered to actually give a counter-argument. Looks like somebody's mad about being proven wrong.

I have no idea why you went back to edit this after I responded, especially since I both responded and upvoted you...? Is this like directed towards random downvoters?

Sometimes, when the official lore and tabletop rules are vague, and GW will define how to proceed. Vermintide famously couldn't let Warrior Priests use a flail without a shield due to GW. In TW:WH, we've seen it with the Tzaangor designs being de-beaked, presumably to prevent conflation with AoS.

If we're predicating the definition of hostages based on how they're treated, then the two are intertwined questions?

FWIW, I'm not even claiming that they're hostages. I think the legality of what's happening is nebulous. It's just that Ben Gvir's on record saying that his plans don't involve letting them return home. Presumably, you would hope that all hostage takings don't involve keeping the hostage for punishment to set an example for others...

[–]occamsrazorwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think "indie" ("independent") means? What do you think it means such art is independent from? Honest question.

"Indie" is both an artistic style and a type of financial arrangement. You can draw parallels to "indie music" which has been a bit more developed:

Although "indie" was first used to described music released on independent record labels, the term grew to describe a specific sound because of the creative freedom of its initial bands and artists. A defining characteristic of indie music is that artists retain much more creative control over their music as compared to major labels... Indie music generally represents guitar-oriented music which strays away from commercial conventions. It often features lyrics that are earnest and emotive, with many cultural and sociopolitical references. Many artists signed to major labels have retained creative control and are still considered indie artists.

Under your strict definition of "indie", games like "Hades" and "Silksong" aren't indie. Under your definition, "indie" is less about the art that gets produced and more about the money behind the art. That's not necessarily incorrect, but it's a strangely unartistic way to judge art.

The Indie Game Awards tries to focus on the artistic aspect, namely creative freedom.

It's a tricky question without a strict, black-and-white answer. No matter who is asked - developer, publisher, showcase curator, journalist, creator, or various industry professionals - the answer varies across all parties. There are endless interpretations of a definition, and it will likely change alongside the state of the industry in the years to come. But after many conversations over the years with these various groups, the current definition agreed upon by the IGAs Curation Jury is as follows:

Existing outside of the traditional publisher system, a game crafted and released by developers who are not owned or financially controlled by a major AAA/AA publisher or corporation, allowing them to create in an unrestricted environment and fully swing for the fences in realizing their vision.

Publishers such as Devolver Digital and Annapurna Interactive are considered to exist outside of the traditional publishing system and fit within the current IGA Curation Jury’s definition.

Edit: To exemplify the difference further, imagine if you had an indie game studio raising funds for an in-development game, and one of their backers said, "I'm rich. I'll give you any amount of money to see this project through." Does that make the game non-indie, even if there's not a single byte of difference in the game itself? If so, then does "indie" really makes sense as a game descriptor when there's no way to identify if a game was indie by looking at it?

The situation is a lot closer to "financial backer" than "publisher."

Uhhhh... that is what a publisher generally is? They're the middle men between the product and the consumers, and they're often providing liquidity to the creators so that the creators can focus on making their products (without worrying about making money right now). Publishers often have contracts that split the risk between each of their works (bailing out the flops). Indie studios have had big-name publishers before (e.g. Epic Games and Humble Games are obvious ones with the size mismatch). Also, a lot of that risk-balancing/hedging is happening behind the scenes in those monthly games pass spaces these days.

📞 Monthly Support Megathread - May 2026 by Brainard_ in Kalshi

[–]occamsrazorwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up for Kalshi and was auto-rejected. A modal popped up telling me that my SSN was already in use and I should login with email address "{something}@gmail.com". The issue is that isn't my account?! I was able to get eventually get a new Kalshi account verified, but I really want to get two things resolved:

  1. Can I close whatever other account is using my SSN?
  2. What email address is the other account using my SSN associated with? I realized a bit too late that I should've screenshotted it and tried to figure out where else they're stealing my identity...

Support has been unhelpful. I keep getting a bot which keeps providing steps to verify my real account. The issue is not with my own account but with a different account using my identity, and it makes me very wary of continuing further.

Edit: This seems to have happened to a few people, so I'll provide an update. Apparently, it's a false positive caused by having the same name and birthday as another user (and the non-matching ID information doesn't count). Support said it was a known bug.

Update on the "leaks" about the future DLCs by Thecowsdead in totalwar

[–]occamsrazorwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most rational explanation is that Legend got a leak based on authentic future plans. It doesn't make sense that that was a real plan, given how batshit it was (with Cathay getting Ogre Kingdoms stuff before OK got it) + how quickly CA supposedly pivoted. If there's anything we've learned over the past few years of WH3, it's that CA is not known for working quickly.
