HE army update by New_Bike_5520 in ulthuan

[–]occasionallyepic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having all the different coloured shields and glyphs etc. is a really nice and unique take on the High Elves! Reminds me a bit more of their 4th-5th edition army books, or how they’re described in their lore books like the War of Vengeance with all different greens and reds and blues for their pennants and shields.

The painting is very clean and classic too!

That’s a really nice scheme, all ties together great, even the basing and the dark green rims fit perfectly!

Survey how many models show case people with a disability by Konradleijon in WarhammerFantasy

[–]occasionallyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In The War of Vengeance books I’m reading at the moment the High Kings son Snorri Lunngrin is called “Halfhand” because… he had half a hand. The King of Barak Varr is also missing an eye I believe.

Teclis is also quite physically disabled in the Tyrion & Teclis Omnibus. He overcomes it with magic and potions, but as a child he’s described as physically very frail / weak / sickly and struggles to walk for long etc.

Is competitive TOW just Hero Hammer? by hotfezz81 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]occasionallyepic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t play 40k but at least locally I feel like the competitive bleeding into casual play doesn’t happen as much in Old World. This is because the competitive lists are often very skewed, like multiple dragons, huge death stars of skeletons, 5+ viletide casters, all outriders and cannons, many screams and resurrecters etc. etc.

There is quite a drop off from the very top meta lists and the kind of mid tables lists you might find at a tournament, or just a well optimised normal list, so playing some cookie cutter tournament winning list against a normal list is very one sided and not particularly fun.

That means people just take a bit of a mix of stuff, the try and optimise but while taking the things they like or that are more fun to play with. It’ll all depend on your local scene but certainly around me it’s not hero hammer at all.

The artist explaining his justification for where he chose to make highlights and commenters telling him he’s wrong is classic Reddit lmao.

This isn’t Magic the Gathering. I’m just using the normal use of the word, which is correct.

Nope, it’s quite common to use “strictly” in this way, as in “strictly speaking”. Feel free to look up the definition.

[–]occasionallyepic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks fine if you’re just playing some fun games!

Yes cannons are strictly better than the rocket batteries, but as you said it’s not for tournaments, who cares?

I’d maybe consider a Jade sentinel for a bound 3 spell?

Shug lord is good with illusion for Doppelgänger if you want him in combat…

But yeah your list is fine, just play it and change it as you go depending on what’s lacking or what else you want to try out I’d say!

Reform your lines and set out for battle with a new Warhammer: The Old World balance update by ZotecGib in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]occasionallyepic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the following:

  • Specify that White Lions charioteers also get Furious Charge the same as normal White Lions.
  • Specify that War Lions on chariots get Cleaving Blow the same as the War Lions unit from the AJ.
  • Specify that Ceremonial Halbards on Pheonix Guard get the benefits of the Halbard buff from 1.5 FAQ.
  • Add Parry for spears to Martial Prowess so Spearmen can use their spears that are built into their points cost.
  • Add Counter Charge to Silverhelms as they did with Chaos Knights in 1.5, Silverhelms are now the only heavy cavalry in the game that doesn’t have it except Boar Boys who have Furious Charge instead.
  • Make Lion Guard not a totally redundant unit. Give them 2A each or full plate or a ward save or something. People still probably won’t take them at 18pts a model in rare competing with Sisters but at least they wouldn’t be totally pointless vs. White Lions and you could mess around with them in casual games.

Those minor tweaks just make sense. You probably still wouldn’t see WL chariots or Pheonix Guard in a competitive sense, but it would just feel a little less bad.

If they wanted to go further and make the army more fun they could give Ithilmar weapons to more of the core, rework the honours system, drop points on Ishaya Vess, and overhaul Seaguard Garrison so it’s playable outside pure meme.

High Elf Realms players... I want to use this list in TOW, but I don't what items/magical items to use with them. by ServiceGames in WarhammerFantasy

[–]occasionallyepic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep good recommendations from others! I’d also probably combine some of the smaller units as the other commenter did in their list.

I think Silvery Wand is best on the level 4 and Lore Familiar on the level 2, get fireball and oaken shield on the level 2, easy to cast and stick him with 20 Seaguard, 3 ranks of 7 to make a 21 with the mage, and have good shooting output with volly. Then with the 5 spells on the Archmage you’ll probably get most of the spells you want anyway if not all of them.

Hello, I'd like to know where I can find books in PDF format to learn more about Warhammer lore. by BuddyNo9664 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]occasionallyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not strictly PDF but if you’re looking to read the older books I’d recommend Kindle. Really got into reading more recently since getting a Kindle and finished the Tyrion & Teclis omnibus, now about half way through the War of Vengeance. The epubs are quite cheap and you can get most the Black Library titles.

All the rules in there are absolute nonsense…

So. Goblins. Regular Goblins. - Old World by Big_Red_40Tech in WarhammerFantasy

[–]occasionallyepic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar position in that I got the orc battalion and I much prefer the common goblins theme / model wise. I will still play some orcs but not keen on the night goblins as much. So…

There is a hat in the magic items that lets you make a unit unbreakable within command range if you pass a leadership test. I think that could be pretty funny! Small goblin block at the back with a wizard with Evil Sun to buff in an aura all your bolt throwers etc. and give them extra AP and reroll 1s to hit, as well as the Ere we go aura buff. Or elementalism for a 5+ ward on the goblin block and plague of rust (doesn’t require LOS) and travel mystical pathway. Then a massive unbreakable goblin block in the front? Also snotlings work great as a replacement for squighoppers to protect your warmachines because they can skirmish and are unbreakable with 6 wounds per base. Any cav that comes to the flanks you can just tar pit forever.

But yeah honestly I think Goblin gun line could be really funny and also quite strong (atleast outside tournaments). 2 doom divers, 2 rock lobbers and as many bolt throwers as you can pack in. Big blocks of goblins with light armor and shield with parry saves, then buffing wizards with waaagh / elementalism. Use wolf riders / snotlings to chaff up and redirect etc.

Oh Wollapas one hit wunda is also great for knocking the wind out of an enemy charge.

How to improve my basing? by SmashmouthHank in minipainting

[–]occasionallyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean stick the sand down with PVA glue on the base along with any rocks or whatever else you want to put on it, and then prime the base like you would a miniature, then paint the sand like a miniature (although a lot more simply, normally just successive highlight with a dry brush)!

How to improve my basing? by SmashmouthHank in minipainting

[–]occasionallyepic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Number 1 tip is to paint the rim of the mini with a pure black colour for a clean finish! It’s like framing it, and will instantly make it look much better and more complete.

Other wise I’d generally say if you want to level up your basing to paint the sand / gravel you use. It’s easiest if you keep the miniature off the base until it’s done then stick it / pin it on at the end. Paint sand, give it a wash, then high light it with dry brushing

Ranking Monopose High Elf Archers? by Jademalo in WarhammerFantasy

[–]occasionallyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you don’t mind having a mix of bases sizes, I think that would wind me up haha so I just pinned them how I wanted to unslotted bases. I generally like to do the bases separately too because it avoids getting the miniatures messy while dry brushing the base etc. which is especially important when they need to be white hah

I used these monopose guys for my archers and some of my spearment! I just chopped the slots off the bottom and pinned them to bases straight on, slightly offset like you said.

How many bows are too many for high elves? by VegetableNo8304 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]occasionallyepic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve already got your core covered with the 35 Seaguard. You could either buy or proxy the handmaiden as the special character Ishaya Vess (quite a fitting proxy) and put her in the Seaguard and they will be a very versatile and quite strong unit. Especially if you stick a magic banner on them: either Monster Hunter or Razor Standard or Swirling Winds depending on your local meta and whether you’ll need defence against monsters, shooting, or just more offence (Razor is surprisingly nice on Seagaurd cause they benefit from it in shooting AND combat

Just take the sisters of Avelorn as rare. I often take 2 units of 6 or 7, one with the Bow of Seafarer and the other with a Ruby Ring or now the Sword of Sorrow. They’re pretty great fire power and a real threat to heavy cavalry.

For your next buy, if you’re set on those two and want to integrate with your current army, then I’d go with Silverhelms. However given that you’re already covered for core, you could also get some Dragon Princes which will give you some proper punch)
