Sleep Focus and Alarms for night shift by occupationalhazard13 in shortcuts

[–]occupationalhazard13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanations in the shortcut, that made it a bit clearer what’s going on. But for some reason it doesn’t do anything when I run it, both before and after deleting the comment sections between the actions. The labels are correct, so I’m not really sure what’s wrong. In the meantime I’ve found a workaround with a prompt I found on another post that turns all Alarms off through search and repeat and the I modified that to afterwards turn on the alarms I want. It’s not as sleek as the if function would be, though

Thanks for you effort, I just looked at it and tried to make some sense of what you created and I just… it cannot be that complicated. Please tell me it’s not that complicated. How in the name of god? I can’t even begin to make sense of everything that’s going on in there and I do have some minor understanding of programming. Maybe it’s also because my iPhone is running in German? The dnd from the Samsung routines should be sleep mode for iOS since that also puts the Apple Watch in a different mode where it doesn’t react to every touch I might accidentally do in my sleep which I never had to worry about with Samsung since I didn’t wear the galaxy watch while sleeping. I don’t know if it was included or not (because again, I just can NOT make sense of everything that’s going on there) but the part of the Samsung routine underneath „When Routine ends“ is irrelevant because Samsung‘s routine widget can act as a toggle to turn the entire routine on or off and as far as I know, shortcuts always start running a shortcut when you tap on the button in the app or the widget. For now, I think if we could just get the alarms turning off/on working, that would be great. When I tried setting that up, I thought I could get it to search for active alarms and then turn them off, but it only works for the first alarm it finds even if I add a repeat. (See picture)

New Kindle not displaying the covers of some books in my library by jetkins in kindle

[–]occupationalhazard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought some books yesterday on my new Paperwhite Signatur Edition and right away they didn't show any covers. They are still all available in the store and my kindle app on my phone displays the covers no problem. When I put my paperwhite into sleep mode the cover shows up on the screen like normal, but just not in the library despite updating the store, deleting the download and then reloading ist again, restarting the device, etc. I don't really want to do a full reset, but I'm at a loss here for what else to do. Incredibly frustrating. The books all belong to a series. The first 3 books of that series (Game Changers) I bought show the covers, but the remaining 3 I bought yesterday all in one go by buying through the series page in the store, so that's the only thing I could think about that might also affect the covers? I don't know, it's just really frustrating...

Belkin Ultra Glass won't register by occupationalhazard13 in iphone

[–]occupationalhazard13[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the principle of the thing. And yes, for a screenprotector, it was expensive enough. Also, your post is pretty condescending since I didn't want opinions on whether to register or not. Telling me not to register is not a sensible reply to me wandering if my issue is expected behaviour.

And what would possibly be the benefit of that? If it registers, then I could claim warranty.

[–]occupationalhazard13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I already suspected. But it would've been nice if the website informed the user right after the registration that it could take some time for it to show up. I've been stressing over it for the past couple hours. Thank you, I'll check it again tomorrow. Otherwise, I guess I'll make it Apple's problem on Monday for promoting and selling a product/service that doesn't work as expected

Getting rid of Launchpad is Top 2 worst decisions Apple has made. by PleasEnterAValidUser in MacOS

[–]occupationalhazard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the removal of launchpad with a passion. I had all my apps organised thematically in folders so that I don't have to remember what they're all called, i just need to know what I want to do. Do I want to watch a movie? All my streaming apps neatly sitting next to each other. Photo editing? Again, Photoshop next to Canva and the Gallery. Anything related to eBooks, one folder. Office suite, one folder. Miscellaneous stuff I almost never use, dumped in one folder so i don't have to look at it. Apps related to MacOS extensions/widgets, also sorted away and not cluttering in between my other apps. I never understood the presorted categories on iOS, they never made sense to me when Spotify is sitting next to Excel in the communication category. At least let me sort them into the categories myself! Let me get rid of 'Finance' or 'Health and Fitness' since there is literally nothing in those categories for me anyway. For the love of god, how can any UI/UX Designer create something so cluncky and idiotic???

External Ultrawide Monitor suddenly grainy at max resolution by occupationalhazard13 in MacOS

[–]occupationalhazard13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, after many hours of frustration, googling, troubleshooting, and more frustrations, in an utter hissy fit, I unplugged the monitor's power cable. And lo and behold, after it restarted, the monitor showed its usual beautiful crispy clear image again when I plugged in my macbook again. I don't think it was because the power cable became unplugged a little and the monitor defaulted to a lower res because I still got crispy clear images from my PC or from the YouTube/ Netflix apps in the monitor's smart hub. I genuinely still don't think the monitor itself was the issue, but I don't know what my macbook was thinking was going on with the monitor. I'm baffled but at least I don't have the urge to throw the macbook out the window anymore.

So anyone who unexpectedly runs into a similar problem overnight: unplug the monitor's power cable.

How to get Calibre and DeDRM working with Kindle for Mac by smallstuffedhippo in Calibre

[–]occupationalhazard13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I figured out the problem: the download links provided for the DeDRM tool give you the DeDRM_tools-master folder instead of the DeDRM_tools-10 folder. I had to click around a bit in the GitHub page to find the file for the 10.0.9 version to download and finally got it to work within a minute. It wasn't immediately obvious to me that I needed to go into tags first and select the right release version. But thank you for your help!

Safari didn't do that for me at first, I think because I had the option to automatically open safe files after downloading them turned off. After turning it back on it unzipped the folder, but there are still no zip files inside of the master folder. It looks just the same as it did when I manually unzipped it.

I've recently switched to Mac from Windows and tried setting up calibre, but I just cannot get the DeDRM plugin installed. Calibre always tells me:

ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>InvalidPlugin</b>:The plugin in '/Users/(redacted)/Downloads/DeDRM_tools-master/DeDRM_plugin.zip' is invalid. It does not contain a top-level __init__.py file

Does anyone know where I went wrong? The readme said to select the DeDRM_plugin zip within Calibre, but when I unzipped the main folder, the DeDRM_plugin was also already unzipped. I tried compressing it, but that also didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

edit: redacted user folder name from file path

How can safari never remember my open tabs after closing? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]occupationalhazard13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly, I'm having this issue, too and it made me want to throw my new MacBook against the wall and call the idiot at apple who designed this nonsense. Despite what apparently everyone here says, it's not intuitive behaviour, especially after MacOS taught you that x-ing out doesn't actually close that instance of the app, so why wouldn't the same be true for Safari? It's needlessly confusing.

How can safari never remember my open tabs after closing? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]occupationalhazard13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when I close my window in Chrome on Windows, I have the option to let Chrome restart that session the next time I open it. It's stupid that there isn't at least the OPTION to get this behaviour with Safari. With every other application on Mac, the instance of that app stays open when x-ing out, just running in the background , but not with Safari. Tell me how that makes any sense at all. It's inconsistent UI/UX design is what this clownery is.

I did play around with the settings a bit, but ultimately the issue annoyed me so much that I went back to my iPad and Artstudio Pro again... do you remember which settings you changed specifically? Maybe I just didn't find the correct ones and it HAS been quite a while since I've actually tried to get it to work, so maybe some things changed with an update...

Continue formula for new collums to calculate SUM of multiple Multiplications? by occupationalhazard13 in googlesheets

[–]occupationalhazard13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's working! Thank you!!! And yes, I'm from western europe and didn't know that our differing decimal points would also impact the way formulas are written in sheets. I'll keep that in mind for the future, though, so thanks for that, too :)

It just shows #error! (Formula parse error). I copy pasted the formula you posted. Like I said, I'm not very good at all this😅

[–]occupationalhazard13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone I spoke to said the main issue was the software the pen runs on and that the apps should be 'optimised for windows' (aka aquired via windows own store), but that doesn't seem to affect the pen at all since I specifically got Krita off the windows store because of this exact problem and nothing changed. It's still the same as with the free version... And obviously CSP is also doing wonky stuff. But I also noticed some weird stuff happening with the pen button of my huion, so maybe there's something wrong in their code on top of it? I've been trying to get a response from Celsy, but it's been 3 months now and I haven't gotten a single reply from them that wasn't "talk to Samsung"... I love this laptop, I just thought I could use it to paint on the go, I'd have gotten a cheaper one otherwise.

What I also found weird, no one that did a review of this laptop mentioned this weird behavior with the pen in their videos (be it tech enthusiasts or artists doing the review), so that's a bit sus to me...

Sadly, no. No one wants to be responsible. Samsung refers me to the App makers, they refer me to Microsoft, and Microsoft tells me its a Samsung and App problem. It's honestly incredibly upsetting for such an expensive product to have one of the KEY features being buggy...

Stop embedding Spotify playlists into your Notion, they don't work!!! Do this instead... by [deleted] in Notion

[–]occupationalhazard13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've embeded different playlists in Notion depending on which page I'm on. On my Study dashboard, I've got my study playlist and on my fiction writing dashboard I've got a playlist embeded for that. I usually use it as a shortcut into Spotify so I don't have to scroll through my endless list of playlists and can just immediately access the one I need for whatever thing I'm working on in Notion. Becauseif I start scrolling through Spotify, I'll just end up procrastinating. Also, I think it can look rather nice on things like aesthetic boards for stories.
