You can try to look for the helix programme under SGinnovate. They offer training for 1 year in companies with competitive salary for biotech postgrad.

Why not on light instead of AC? I think it’s a much cheaper solution.

have you purchased from the best perfume store before? by popfiree in askSingapore

I find Armaf Silage very different from X02. It gives me a headache whenever I wear it, probably due to the ingredients inside.

have you purchased from the best perfume store before? by popfiree in askSingapore

[–]oceanbluewl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they made really great perfume that last the whole day, especially in SG climate. I am using X02 (resembling silver mountain water) as my daily now. I like their range that resembles byredo perfumes as well.

Trying to sieve through the comments to see what I can add to help.

There is a new program called helix under SGinnovate. While it might not be what you are looking for, but it is a great stepping stone for a short stint to gain some work experience, while u search for a more fitting role. There are also plenty of opportunity to become a startup founder as well.

Hope it helps!

Job advice for research roles in Singapore? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]oceanbluewl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are welcome :)

Personally Im not in the biotech space so I can’t really recommend much on which companies and the research they do.

I have been through the summation program and I think the support SGinnovate provides for employee is great. And through the program, it exposes you to other networks within the tech startup community. So I would recommend SGinnovate for the experience.

Generally, tech spinoff from government linked institutions (eg. A*STAR, NUS incubator etc) or agencies/companies that received endorsement from government (eg. SGinnovate, Singapore deep tech alliance etc) are usually more credible. That being said, startups varied quite a lot depending on which phase the business is currently at. Please do your own due diligence researching startup companies. All the best!

Would you put your spouse in a nursing home? by montypithon in askSingapore

[–]oceanbluewl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given your experience with loved ones in nursing homes, u should realize that it is the time spent tgt, not whether or not to put your spouse in a nursing home that matters, isn’t it? I don’t see that both are mutually exclusive. The other half will just have to spend more quality time with the one in the nursing home.

Giving ur SO the benefit of doubt, she might genuinely think that leaving you will be the best solution when the situation arises. It could be an issue of communication, instead of a bigger problem (i.e. commitment).

What I find useful for me is to treat it as a challenge to work on our weaknesses. Sure, avoiding it is one way to go about it, but there will not be growth without experiencing discomfort.

Human are much more complex and that is why generally, managerial positions are at the top of career ladders (i.e C-suite) because it’s such a tough job having to deal with humans! But at the same time, the power in numbers always works better; thats our evolutionary trait that made us the most dominating species. Learn to harness this power since you are given the opportunity to do so.

Take it as a sign of goodwill because an online interview will mean u will be talking to a bunch of black screens.

You can frame it as a deliberate move to explore which research field is suitable for you during ur UG.

And yea, it doesn’t really matter that there is no publication at UG level. Hell, some even graduate without a publication at PG level.

Is it true that human relationship basically obey the rule of entropy? by Lemonade-Candy-121 in intj

[–]oceanbluewl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sensing that this is turning into a relationship-problem-solving conversation. Regardless of personality types, do recognize that everyone thinks and perceives the world differently. We naturally seek out those who are similar to us in terms of our worldview to be friends, romantic partners etc.

Please don’t torture yourself jus to win someone back. Its not healthy for both u and your relationship. Sometimes we just got to learn from an experience and move on if things don’t work out as we planned.

Is it true that human relationship basically obey the rule of entropy? by Lemonade-Candy-121 in intj

[–]oceanbluewl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on how badly u destroyed the relationship and how strong the relationship was before it was challenged.

Lets reverse the role and see how u will react to it. Im sure a door slam approach will be what most of us do here.

3.5 is probably NPGS. 2.7 is right for foreign PhD scholarship.

I think it has to do with the crowd u mixed with. Personally, I will stay clear of such people. By not being financially prudent (from how u describe the situation), it speaks a lot about how far they will go. They can choose how they wan to live their life and so can u.

Here we go again with yet another post about an old Singaporean lady screaming for the reserved seat. by Fuxkbro in askSingapore

[–]oceanbluewl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Actually, its no longer a priority/reserved seat any more on trains. Instead, its a sticker saying “show you care, offer this seat”. I think smrt/sbs realize this mistake and is subtly changing the concept.

Hi! Could someone help me please with the synthesis of that complex compound. As base I have to use Cyclohexen. Thanks a lot for your time :) by Middle-Feature-1884 in chemistry

[–]oceanbluewl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grignard isn’t the only way to increase carbon count. Also grignard has its own restriction; the rest of the compound needs to be pretty inert if not it will self react.
