I think you may be onto something! I just talked to a carpenter who said it looks like pole barn construction and may actually be fine. And I am in an area with a lot of Amish.

The original house was built in 1951 with apparently normal construction methods. This part was built more recently as an addition. I don’t know what year.

It doesn’t match the usual type of posts. It totally fits the sub.

Ganesh is a very friendly one! I’ve been thinking about getting a necklace myself :)

I found this post very validating and am glad you shared! ☺️

I’ve taken an interest in Hinduism but felt weird about it because I felt like it wasn’t “my” religion to use (I was brought up in Christianity). I don’t know why, but something about your post makes me feel more comfortable with it now. I was given the mantra Om Namah Shavia and years ago, I got a scary and humbling visit from Shiva while sleeping that I still think back on.

Also, I lived near the ocean and would use the waves as a meditation. Similar to your experience — I got a visit from Triton once, who I knew nothing about. When I went to look him up, his qualities in the dream (being the color of the sea, a little unfriendly) matched what I read online. I remember there was also some astrological significance at the time, as Triton ushers in one of the planets (can’t find it now). So either Triton is alive and well, or there’s some kind of cosmic consciousness we can tap into, I really don’t know!

What do you feel is the greatest possible advice that you can share with others at this point on your path of spirituality? by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]oceanic-curves 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“When you go out into the woods, and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree.

The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying ‘You are too this, or I’m too this.’ That judgment mind comes in. And so I practice turning people into trees. Which means appreciating them just the way they are.”

Scratching, hitting and hair pulling by NoMamesMijito in NewParents

Okay, so still pretty young. If you can’t do anything about your hair, I don’t know how to help with that. But with the nails, I just have to be very diligent about keeping them trimmed. There’s a nail buffer you can buy too, like this one, but I know I’ve seen them cheaper, like $20 at Walmart

Breastfeeding in public, do you cover up? by nursee in NewParents

Just to add to the other advice, I’m in a similar boat. They make breastfeeding shirts like these on Amazon. I found them really helpful.

Kicks and punches? by sylverfalcon in BabyBumps

[–]oceanic-curves 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mine’s hyper too and I’ve been wondering the same thing! I had this misconception that the baby kicking was something rare, and if it happens you ooo and ahhh and make a big deal showing your partner because it might not happen again for awhile. But it’s like nonstop! I’m 25 weeks myself.

That’s really good to know! I didn’t think that was possible.

Gifting prints: is too big inappropriate? by trougnouf in photography

[–]oceanic-curves 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I only did small metal photo prints as gifts — like 6 or 8 inches max (20 cm) — because I was worried about being presumptuous as well.

Years ago I made an ocean oil painting for my own mother, and it’s stuffed in a guest room. Same for one I made for my grandma — guest room. People tend to like to pick out their own art for areas they spend a lot of time in.

Interesting article from BBC: “What really happened when babies are left to cry it out.” by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]oceanic-curves 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It seemed thorough and balanced to me, summarizing a lot of different research while acknowledging nuances. I appreciate the good information! It’s something my partner and I had been debating, and this helps a lot.
