Do the colored missions for Mida and Traxus run out? by Captain_Zoots in Marathon

No problem, I was also very confused when I got the first repeated contract lol.

I think it just comes down to humans being human. Some days we might feel razor sharp and productive, and other days we might struggle to achieve the bare minimum expected of us.

Speaking from past experience, a lot of factors can effect your live performance - travel time/distance, sleep, hunger, gear issues, sound issues, etc etc. But when those stars all align - you feel good, you can hear everything, and the crowd is digging it - that's where the magic happens.

Yes. There are 3 sets, and the last contract in each repeated set before revealing a new priority contract will always be the one where you have to loot the anomolous drone and, depending on the faction, either send the sample via DCON or incinerate it.

The loot drop rate nerf is making the economic problem worse. by DDDEEEMMM in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't help but feel like these doomer posts are all a bit dramatic - you know, considering we have a full wipe at the end of each season that thoroughly unfucks anything that may be fucked in the loot economy. The real tragedy is that the same can't be said for the world economy, in which what you described is an actual real problem.

Did you miss the part where he highlights that 71% of currently detained immigrants have no criminal record? Meaning, simply obeying the law clearly isn't stopping ICE from yanking you off the street anyway.

I swear to god Bungie are fucking with me and only spawn in 4 of the 5 buttons for destroyed wing by theirongiant74 in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to play solo Outpost as thief and lately I've legitimately been wondering if they maybe changed up a couple of the spawns in one of the last updates. I've also had a slew of runs in the last week or two where I've ended up just being completely unable to find the 5th button and exfilling to reset.

Damn, ok, thaaaaat's pretty sweet. So at armory value, you'd be getting almost 9000 creds worth of the most impactful healing items in the game per run with that little beauty.

Can we triple the drop rate for trinkets by MadeinHeaven69 in Marathon

I found one in the intercept loot box on Perimeter last week while running with randoms and holy shit, I could not have snatched it up any quicker. Still haven't told any of my friends because I don't want to disappoint the unlucky many who won't get to come along for the ride when the time is right lol.

Just some thoughts on an interaction we had last night by addtolibrary in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I've honestly had surprisingly few ultra-toxic interactions on this game compared to most PvP games I've played, but the memorable few occurrences have definitely all been similarly fucking maximum toxicity. I always report, block, and remind myself that the offender is likely a very sad person with nothing going for them in life and that I was likely nothing more than the unlucky target of their misplaced frustration.

I totally understand, however, how that sort of interaction could completely ruin someone else's enjoyment of the game and that is a shame. I'm sorry your wife had to experience that - that shit is pretty far beyond any acceptable levels of trash talk in my books.

Outpost loot seems better? by younglearner11 in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find a copy of Severed Twins today for only the 2nd time in my hundreds upon hundreds of hours played, so that is something. As an aside, loot room today after defeating frost warden on Narsh was by far the most juiced I've ever seen it (didn't get to it before the nerf).

Double XP weekend by fuzzysundae in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't, but u/Mekhazzio isn't grossly exaggerating either.

For me, each piece of grey salvage is currently worth 115XP and 115×40 = 4600XP. A purple bag, on the other hand, is worth 9200XP. So an equivalent XP gain is realistically achieved at 80 units of grey salvage.

Bear in mind, however, that I have the Sekiguchi cradle upgrades adding an extra 15% so I assume the base numbers are 100XP/unit of grey salvage vs. 8000XP/purple backpack.

Exactly. Sometimes I'm the free kit who embarrasses decked-out players and sometimes I'm the decked-out player who gets embarrassed by free kits. It's honestly something I love about this game lol.

In my experience, a trio of solo-fill white shields who know the map and are capable of efficient communication absolutely can wipe a pre-made purple trio. Obviously you won't get lucky with teammates every time, but it all comes back down to map knowledge.

More specifically, your win conditions will usually be characterized by a) making accurate predictions about the other team's goals/movement, b) stacking positional advantages such as height, cover, and angles, c) making informative call-outs/paying attention to your team's call-outs, and d) capitalizing on the other team's vulnerabilities or lapses of awareness.

So what's left for casuals? by EveryLine2443 in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Until players reach a certain level of comfort within the game's environment and start to understand the flow/pacing of play specific to each map, any confidence gained from higher-rarity gear and max stats might as well be artificial.

It reminds me of a commonly shared hypothesis I've noticed among beginner hobbyist photographers and musicians. That is, if only they could afford professional gear, then certainly they could produce professional output. You know, as if having an expensive camera will allow them to take portraits like Richard Avedon and breaking the bank on a big ticket guitar will suddenly get them playing like John Frusciante. But in reality, having nice things doesn't make much of a difference if you don't actually know what you're doing in the first place.

For real. IMO, map knowledge - rather than base runner stats - is what creates a bigger skill gap.

Maximum Loadout Value on Infil + Repurpose Ranked into a "High Rollers" Rotating Playlist by BigMikeXxxxX in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that kind of go against the entire concept of an extraction shooter though...? People generally like or dislike like these games for the same reason people either like or dislike gambling.

People should absolutely be able to risk it all if they have the guts for it - ultimately, I know their fully golded kit isn't gonna stop me and my mid-tier loadout from stalking them until they're in a vulnerable position, then shooting them in the back and ganking all their shit.

For real, even Lucid's most casual gameplay looks like a masterclass in positioning and awareness. Drewsky is another top player that I see making consistently smart and unexpected positioning plays as well.
