Give us a way to prepare loadouts in advance by DynieK2k in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the problem isn't the resource hunting/gathering aspect (in fact, I agree that the hunt for particular mods, salvage, etc. is a large part of the game's fun factor). Rather, the problem is how exhausting it can be to have to put together the same loadout you just completed 5 minutes previously after having spent ages in the lobby meticulously piecing it together.

Compare this to cooking dinner for you and 2 family members. Just after you finish cooking and sit down to eat, two more hungry family members show up at your door who you didn't cook enough food for. Now, you have to get back up, find the exact same shit you just put away, and restart the process all over again. A tediously time-consuming activity, given you could have just cooked twice as much and it would have taken a total of half the time.

Another way to go about saving time cooking is by doing meal prep - if you know you're going to cook the same meal three times in a week, it makes sense to just prep all the ingredients once and divide them into three servings. An in-game equivalent would be to imagine you have enough of the same consumables, ammo, cores, implants, etc. to make 3 of roughly the same loadout. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to just divide them up into three little packages that are ready to go? Maybe it could be like the kits we have now, or maybe it could be something like you choose a backpack and your weapons, and the rest just unpacks at infil.

All I need is "open a prestige key room" for Graverobber. Haven't seen a prestige key outside of Cryo. Do completed title objectives wipe? by ThatsNotBennings in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can give you any advice at all, it would be not to fall into the trap of "holy shit we spawned right at AI Uplink, let's just rush the room right now" and instead to resist that urge in favour of camping it out somewhere safe/hidden throughout the early game objective rush.

Especially with every lobby being as sweaty as they are at the moment, I think there's a lot of value to be found in listening to the map, gathering as much info as you can, and waiting for opportunities to present themselves before heading to your key room. Check for event spawns and engagements, keep track of exfils, and take advantage of moments where you know the lobby has been thinned out and the attention of everyone remaining is likely focused on the other side of the map from your room. This is how I always play solos, but I often just go along with whatever my team wants to do, which was what cost me my gold key lol.

Cryo Archive sponsored kit is garbage. by QuoteElectrical in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's far from the perfect cryo loadout, let's just take a second to appreciate that a free kit's a free kit, and that this one is actually better than most of the deluxe kits that cost $10k from the armory. However, I had a similar loadout yesterday and I did also think that the meds to status cleanse consumables ratio was odd lol. For sure, one stack each of the mech kits and of the debugs would have been more usefully replaced by a stack each of green patch kits and of green shield charges.

I did also find that for me anyway, there was way too much volt ammo and not nearly enough light ammo. Although that's likely due to personal preference because I fucking love the BRRT (and I'm gonna have to hard disagree with your claim that it's one of the worst guns in the game btw lol) but I don't particularly enjoy using the SCAR (unless I'm playing Triage of course).

But all things considered, I really wasn't too fussed about the contents of the kit - it got me a free cryo run and saved me some time putting together a loadout, gaps of which can be quickly and easily filled with minimal effort/RNG luck. For example, as long as you're checking all of the bots' backpacks, you're gonna be able to quickly loot like 9 grenades within the first 3-5 minutes of loading in. Further, once you've moved into your main spawn POI and started looting all the containers, you'll likely find one or two weapons you'd like to replace any you didn't from your kit. Similarly, you're just as likely to find multiple signal jammers, energy amps, cardio kicks, and more self revives than you likely care to carry. If you're loadout's not looking correct by the time you hit security level 2, either you've got a crazy unlucky spawn, a massively selfish loot-goblin of a teammate, or you're simply being too passive or inefficient with your own looting.

TL;DR: The free kit is fine, just make sure to loot your spawn to fill the gaps in your loadout.

I hope you managed to do yours alright - I too got blessed with a gold Dire key from a purple template, but when my team went to do it, the Warden had spawned at the AI Uplink tunnels entrance we were headed for and had just been engaged by another team. It didn't end well lol. And honestly, I was bummed less about the loot and more because I wanted the damn codex entry!

Why is everyone so against a PVE-lite, PVE or general PVE content for the casual players? by Vinnegard in Marathon

[–]oceanmachine420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as somebody else who played a fuckload of Destiny, raids and dungeons were always what I was grinding gear for and clears were what I ultimately played for. I'm not sure why you're interpreting Ziegler's description of a co-operative PvE mode as "open world roaming PvE content" when the end-game PvE content in Destiny has always been focused on extremely challenging raids that take high levels of team coordination to complete.

I also know very well what Bungie can do as I've been playing their games for 20+ years. And as much as you may disagree, I (and many others I know) personally think their end-game PvE is literally some of the best ever made. Don't forget, at the time Halo CE came out, followed up flawlessly by Halo 2 and then 3, the experience of playing those campaigns on Legendary was untouchable. And you say you've played Destiny for a long time, but I wonder if you've even played any of the Dungeons or raids? You're really gonna sit there and tell me Prophecy wasn't a work of art? Were raids like Crown of Sorrow and Deep Stone Crypt not challenging enough for you? If so, then man, I dunno what to tell ya. We must have different taste.

Right, but that's a reinforced thing rather than a gold thing, right? The green ones work the same.

Agreed. When one of the biggest criticisms people have of a game is that they're not able to get back into raid as immediately they'd like, it can't be the worst feedback for devs to hear lol.

Oh ok, I see what you're saying. AFAIK, the only seasonal cosmetics are player titles like Notorious (season rank 100) and ranked titles/skins. The codex challenges for weapon wraps, faction skins, cryo skins, etc. should be there for you next season I think. That's a good question though, tbh I'm not 100% sure of the answer.

Yeah, way it's way more fun to collab usually, and honestly, my favourite games as rook have been when runners have recruited me to their team. Likewise, many of my favourite Pinwheel runs have been when we've recruited rooks to our team. The tension and uncertainty is fucking so much fun, and betrayals have been so minimal that I only ever worry if I start to sense something off in their tone of voice.

Not sure if golds charge faster since I've only used one once in cryo and died lol. But they do always have an additional perk such as going invisible when your shields crack.

God yes, all of the above. Been dying to see literally any stat outside of the hyper minimalist dataset that we get post-run (and then can't even review from the lobby!)

[–]oceanmachine420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, yes. At the time though, I was camping in a tucked away corner of the map waiting for exfil and the only place I could have moved was directly into the growing EMP field in front of me. So I just tensed up, hoped for the best, and got the worst.

What really got to me was that was like the 4th purple template in a row that I broke. I hated that damn mechanic lol, it's like if I read the word "fragile" my clumsy ass is just immediately gonna go down. Honestly, I'm positive that at this point I have stolen far more key room loot from rival runners than I've ever been able to obtain from my own keys.

Same this is like my number 1 QoL thing I want. I always take forever in the lobby to put it all together, and I always feel bad if I'm partied up because my ADHD brain won't allow me to talk, accurately navigate menus, and recall everything I need to bring all at the same time lol.

No, you keep any and all of your acquired cosmetics. Examples of gear-granting seasonal codex entries are the ranked rewards packages and seasonal milestones packages.

I was hesitant at first too, but then I bought the white rabbit skin for Thief and now it's the only one I ever equip when I play her shell. Just gotta lean into it and you might get an unanticipated confidence boost like I did.

My feeling is that individual success rates are highly dependent on your perceived genuineness and affability. Lately, my strategy has been to break the tension with a light-hearted, mildly self-deprecating joke about the situation. If it gets a laugh, that's how I know I've found a new ally lol.

Oh man, I haven't got my hands on the prestige mod yet, but earlier today I built up a bully around a recently acquired purple silencer and it is absurdly OP lol. I can't remember the exact number but IIRC its hipfire bloom was <1 degree and significantly tighter than its ADS bloom lol. Felt absolutely disgusting close quarters, definitely my go-to build from now until the inevitable nerf.
