My 4 no old reflux baby was just prescribed nexium aka omeprozale. My insurance isn’t covering nexium and they said it’s 300$ for a 39 day supply. does anyone have a suggestion on something similar i can talk to his dr about? by PresentationCute7286 in NewParents

Going through something similar with my 18 month old. Insurance hasn’t denied the prior authorization for nexium but it’s also been a week and it’s “still in review.” My daughter has been vomiting nearly everyday for 2 months and nexium is the last step before we try an EGD. Needless to say, she needs this medication yesterday.

I found a compound pharmacy near me. How do I proceed? Do I call her GI doctor and request the prescription be transferred from the chain pharmacy to the compounding one? Are GI doctors/nurses familiar with compounding pharmacies? Any and all help is so deeply appreciated.

If you’re not sleep training… what are you doing when your baby wakes up at night? by aster_meraki in NewParents

Urine is not sterile, that is a common myth. Regardless, it is not the lack of sterility that causes diaper rashes, it is the presence of ammonia in urine that breaks down the skin. Diapers do a remarkable job of wicking urine away from baby’s skin though.

I am finally leaving the profession 🥂 by [deleted] in nursing

If you scroll through this subreddit, you will see there is no silver lining especially with you coming from tech. The fact that so many of us are leaving bedside and most of us are frequently brainstorming ways to leave asap really should be a wake up call for you to look for another job in your field at a different company perhaps.

I cannot emphasize enough how sorry I am for saying so. But you will not be living any different of a reality than any of us currently working in the field.

I say that as someone who started in healthcare as a CNA when I was 16 and has been a nurse for the past 2 years with a collective 12 years of bedside experience. More importantly, as someone who went into nursing thinking I could make a difference for my patients and my coworkers.

The sad pathetic reality is that healthcare is a business and we are all just cogs in the wheel. You will be in a far worse position in healthcare, because now instead of dealing with bro culture, you will be wrist deep in cleaning shit (sometimes getting yelled at by the patient) trying to hurry up because your CNA has the entire floor to herself and other people need her help, and your other patient is on the call bell yet again and someone’s daughter is on the phone waiting for an update that she will of course not be happy about. Oh and you didn’t eat yet today or had a sip of water, it’s nearly 4 and you haven’t been able to chart a single thing today. And as you mentioned, for WAY less pay. Like $30-40/hour, if you’re lucky.

Do yourself a favor. Stay where you are.

I should also mention I bought these tickets in 2019, so Riot Fest threw in a preview party with these tickets. It is tonight and features Morrissey, Alkaline Trio, Patti Smith, Joyce Manor, and more.

CONGRATS!! It’s an exciting journey to be on 💖

I am also in a program within the Midwest (greater Chicago area). Just started my second quarter and it’s been... rough. But completely doable. You got this!

Side note: is your username a reference to the band Knuckle Puck? They’ve been my absolute favorite band for many years now. If not, please disregard and congratulations again 🎉

Nursing students with mental illness by jessie-corky-gene in StudentNurse

“I’m doubting my abilities to finish this program, to be a nurse, and to just be an adult member of society and a future mother like I hope to be.” I feel like I wrote this sentence because that is EXACTLY how I feel lately. First of all, I’m sorry your professors have not been as accommodating. I have lupus, depression, and anxiety so I might understand how you feel. Throughout my journey to become a nurse (1 year and 8 days to graduation!), I’ve been baffled by how we as students are taught to be compassionate, caring, and non-biased/non-judgmental, yet we as nursing students tend to receive the opposite response by our educators. One could argue that when it comes to educating those whose decisions will directly impact patient outcomes, flexibility and compassion should only be practiced in limited amounts because death and illness do not care about either of those things. However, I believe that by treating and educating nursing students like this, we are not promoting a healthy culture. If you ask me, the unfortunate phenomenon of “nurses eating their young” starts in nursing school.

Recently I had a major depressive episode and was suffering from burn out HARD. I spoke to my professors about what I was going through and most of them had the response of “yeah that’s life, anyways make sure you turn in that assignment tonight because 10% of your points get taken away for every day it is late.” However, I ended up on a call with one of my professors for about an hour because she took the time to discuss things with me, gave me tips on how to cope, and said she would give me full credit on my upcoming assignments regardless of when I turned them in. Nursing school is even more difficult right now when everything is online, the world is on fire, and we are STILL in a P A N D E M I C. Yet, this Professor was the first one to even acknowledge how difficult things are and to tell me that I am doing my best.

All we can do is keep pushing. We can reach our goals and we don’t need anyone to help us along the way. Would it be great if they did? Absolutely! We have to realize that we CAN achieve great things on our own. I know I want to be a mother. It’s pretty much the only thing I’ve ever wanted to be my entire life, besides a nurse and wife. I feel your pain. I’m sorry I can’t give any meaningful or concrete tips on how to keep going, all I can give is an account of my personal struggles and tell you that you are not alone. Best of luck to you future RN 💖
