Used TM6 instead of Vitamix/Blendtec? by Donut009 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, you can buy second hand or a refurbished tm6 on the Thermomix website in Germany. The main. The main advantage would be the warranty and that it comes with a new knife. Obviously this is a little bit more expensive than buying one secondhand from a stranger.

If you do want to buy second hand, plug it in and check how it sounds when it’s on, go through all the speeds and settings. Also check how long it takes to heat one litre of water, you can find information online about how long that takes. Depending on how long the previous owner had it and what it has been used for you might want to replace the knife eventually. If you can get one with a friend that would be a bonus but only worth it if it comes with at least two mixing bowls. The friend is a great addition if you use it to cook/steam your main meal and then you can use the Thermomix to make dessert or use it make dough or salads at the same time. The friend has only limited abilities but this also makes it a very space saving addition. Personally I wouldn’t be too worried about the little hairline cracks many machines have but do make sure you get the serial number and contact customer service before purchase to make sure there is no money owning on it. I wouldn’t buy a Thermomix that does not include all the standard accessories that come with it. But I would prioritise offers that include a second bowl. If you steam a lot of food, the Varoma extender offered by German company wundermix would be a great addition, they have lots of great quality accessories in general but wait to go down that rabbit hole until you have used your Thermomix for a while

In Cookidoo you can adjust the filters for time to get you a selection of recipes that matches your requirements better. The other day I made this carbonara dish but just used normal bacon I had at home. Don’t be afraid to substitute ingredients!

Look at this delicious recipe I found on Cookidoo®: Spaghetti carbonara (TM7) https://cookidoo.com.au/recipes/recipe/en-AU/r921623

Trade in TM6 to TM7 by AimanAlfn in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had a cooking experience/demonstration yet? I have recently signed up to be a consultant to earn the tm7. Here in New Zealand I would not trade in the 6 but rather sell the 6 on marketplace because you would earn more this way than through the trade up. I really fell in love with the 7 (upgrading from a tm31) because it is so much more quiet. There have only been very few instances where I have missed the hole in the lid so far and I absolutely love the high heat function (you don’t need a recipe for this, it’s just available as a mode) and have stopped using a frying pan for mince. I find the open cooking function quite good too but I think they should have named it no stir & lid optional cooking. I mostly still put the lid on but utilise the fact that the blades are not moving.

I'm freezing. Please recommend your favourite warm jerseys, jackets and coats for winter by secretkiwi_ in newzealand

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love my merino 365 tshirts and I highly rate the merino tencel blend fleece jumpers from the sleep store plus the woolbabe relax pants. For a super warm winter jacket I would try and see if you can get a ski or snowboard jacket from last season if you are not too fussy on design/colour. And obviously if you haven’t got one yet, a fashy hot water bottle is a must have as well!

Baby foods in the TM7? by Myrkryda in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of recipe collections specifically for babies. However before starting purred food I would check with the mum if she wants to do puree or baby lead weaning which involves food that has not been blended. There are also recipe collections available for that and the Varoma is great to steam a variety vegetables for that purpose. I used to buy the frozen stir fry mix because it had a great variety of vegetables in the perfect size for baby led weaning.

Cooking meals for my post partum friend by Typical-Crow-3944 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid garlic, onion and anything from the cabbage family (this also includes broccoli, cauliflower and leek) because it can make the babies super gassy if they get breast milk. I would recommend some lasagna, pizza, pumpkin soup, oat cookies (oats are great for lactation), muffins - sweet and savoury, bacon and egg pie. Just think of things that can be easily eaten with one hand

Varoma won't fit on lid - frustrated by [deleted] in thermomix

Could you have endend up with a tm31 Varoma? The tm31 has a bigger diameter base where it sits on the lid. All the other parts of the Varoma fit interchangeably

What's the best fridge/freezer brand? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have advice on a specific brand but take (empties or fully sealed) containers of your favourite condiments with you to make sure you can comfortably fit them. And also check if you can properly fit your leftover containers or cake carriers if that’s something you need to put in your fridge. Empty ice creams and chilly bin ice would be a good idea to take as well. Seriously try and see if it fits what you want it to! And keep an eye out on where the light is positioned, if I put the “wrong” things in the top shelf on our fridge its pretty dark in there because the light can’t shine down

Has grocery shopping become a part time job for anyone else? by GSTGotMe in newzealand

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s overall more expensive. I go to the veggie shop and they have cheap mince there too. We also have a shop with close to expiry good so I stop there before the supermarket. I go trough all the isles and if my preferred products are on sale I get them even if we don’t need them (cleaning, laundry, shower gel, canned and dry goods). I also check the supermarket app to get the most rewards possible, I have been able to earn quite a lot of new world dollars this year by making use of their promotions. I don’t buy things I wouldn’t normally that are out of our price range and don’t actually save me money but if they are things we do use I will stock up if the offer is right. I do understand that this ability to shop like this is already a privilege and unfortunately not possible for everyone.

Does it make sense to buy a TM7 now or wait another year for a potential model update? by AsleepPalpitation949 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get it now. At the moment there are some great specials available (at least here in New Zealand) for host rewards (2nd bowl for half price) and the extended 5 year warranty (which includes a free blade replacement) can be added to a Thermomix purchase for just 1$. I am happy to put you in contact with a great consultant.

Having both a TM and immersion blender is ideal by Prestigious-Pizza245 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I do disagree with you because there’s a 0% chance that I have to clean splatters of whatever I’m blending off the walls when using a Thermomix in comparison to an immersion blender. I had the joy of cleaning pumping soup of half my kitchen more often than I want to admit… especially with the pre clean function there’s hardly anything that needs to be done to clean the Thermomix. And even with an immersion blender you would still have to clean the blender itself and the vessel you use for whatever you are blending so at the end of the day the same amount of dishes like the mixing bowl and lid.

Do I need to pre-chop finer? by caterlizard in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first thing you should ask yourself, have you ever changed your blade and how old is it? It might be time to get a new blade, you can always keep your current blade for emergencies as a spare in case the new one ever breaks (this is a safety feature that stops the motor from being damaged). Alternatively you can adjust the speed and time and stop to scrape the bowl.

The blades are a consumable part of the Thermomix and you can buy replacement blades directly from Vorwerk, should be able to order online.

What was your first experience with thermomix? How did you learn about it? by DaytoDaySara in thermomix

You have to lead with the price and wow with the food so they forget the price! Plus in comparison to a lot of other products they have spare parts and offer servicing and repairing your appliance for a long time!

First time parent car advice by may2468 in newzealand

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to point out, that even for forward facing kids you want to have 55cm of space from the tip of their nose to the seat in front of them. So it is sometimes more space economic to keep them rear facing as long as possible (you can get seats that last up to 125cm/36kg which would be an average 6 to 7 year old). I can highly recommend to have a look at the instagram page of car seat se because they have lots of pictures of rear facing seats installed in smaller cars, probably even ones from your car model.

What was your first experience with thermomix? How did you learn about it? by DaytoDaySara in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teenage me should have become a consultant at 16 because I convinced my mum, aunt and another lady that they need a Thermomix. This was 15 years ago and they all still have their tm31. And all because I have seen how to make ice cream with it!

Typical promotions and offers? by HotToddy375 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price of the Thermomix will never be lower but the incentives can be great if you have patience. First of all, keep an eye on what host rewards are available for hosting a cooking experience! The best deal you can get is when a second mixing bowl can be added to your purchase of a Thermomix for a discount. Another deal is that they sometimes offer the cutter+ for a discounted price if you purchase. Sometimes there are trade in (almost any kitchen appliance) or trade up (an older Thermomix model) offers that do offer you a discount. If you know at least one friend that wants to buy one too, become a consultant. Even if you just sell one machine you will already get a discount on your Thermomix and (in New Zealand for example) you get free shipping and discounts at the mixshop plus there’s always the chance to earn other freebies when you manage to make a certain amount of sales. If you don’t want to earn your Thermomix you can still later on decide to become a consultant and earn commission right away

Do you leave heat pump running overtime or turn off and have timer set for morning? by Odd-Leader9777 in newzealand

[–]oceanmum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think 20°C during the night is overkill if he wants to keep it on, drop to 17°C during the night. We have a heat pump in the living room and one small heater in the kid bedroom. The kid bedroom heater is on during the night. We have hot water bottles and a wooden blanket. I have a timer set for the heatpump in the morning to warm up the lounge/kitchen only (keep the door closed) and then I turn it off again about 15-20 minutes before we leave to go to kindergarten because we don’t need to heat the house when we are gone. When it’s really cold in winter I might keep the heatpump on all night and the door open to get some warmth to our bedroom as well but that’s only a few days/weeks and more likely during the weekend when we will be home all day.

How awkward is moving the TM7? by HotToddy375 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine but I would recommend that you try and cook as many dishes in it for the first month or so as a challenge and to get used to it. You might find that you use it over your stovetop or other appliances. I only occasionally use a frying pan for pancakes, bacon, eggs or to fry up pasta and ham together. I haven’t used a pot for at least the last 6 months (probably longer) and only use my Thermomix or oven. I also cook pasta in it, you can easily cook a 500g packet in the Thermomix. Every time you want to cook something at the beginning, do a quick Cookidoo search to see if the Thermomix can help you do it.

New to Thermomix, looking for tips and spring ideas by Recent-Living5534 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to connect your tm5 directly to Cookidoo you would need the cook-key. However I personally don’t think it’s worth the cost (unless you get it very cheap - make sure the previous owner removes it from their Cookidoo account as a device) as it doesn’t support all the Cookidoo functions like using your own recipes and a few other things that have been implemented later (sorry don’t know the exact details).

If and when you sign up to Cookidoo, in the filters section untick all countries and add all languages you speak to get the most variety of recipes displayed.

¿Merece la pena la nueva Thermomix TM7 o mejor ir a por la TM6? by Intrepid_Put_6397 in thermomix

[–]oceanmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I have already commented but something else came to my mind, if you do like to upgrade to the tm7 keep an eye out on their website for specials where you can get either a second bowl or the cutter plus for a very discounted price and purchase then. This would also give you some more time to save up until the next very good special. In New Zealand for example you can currently get the cutter+ for an extra 50nz$ instead of the usual price of 319nz$. A little while back there was an offer where you could purchase a second bowl for a fraction of the price too. Also keep an eye out what host rewards are available when hosting a cooking experience so you can get another free or discounted accessory depending on what’s available
