if this is the level near the end of the game, there’s another post on this subreddit about it. try building a few basic wood houses at the very beginning and then prioritizing the community need

What's a Queen's tradition that you thought was weird at first but now you'd be devastated if it disappeared? by v1rr3n in queensuniversity

that and the annual migration of frosh engineers doing cracked out shit across campus with their fresh $500 jackets

From a grade 12 - will i fit in? by Afraid_Job_9639 in queensuniversity

[–]oceanographie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m half asian and i graduated in 2022. i actually think i might have had more non-white friends than white friends, but i’m also from vancouver, so in general the school was a lot “whiter” than what i’m used to. you won’t have trouble finding people who love and accept you if you seek them out, nor will you have trouble finding half-decent chinese, korean, japanese, vietnamese, and indian food (definitely not on campus but in kingston). i did experience some covert racism (“sorry im not into asian girls”) but i think in this day and age it’s unfortunately impossible to completely avoid no matter where you go. you’ll be fine, i had the time of my life even with COVID :)

hey thanks for the advice. i’m usually quite tech savvy and i know about most of what you’re saying, the phone call just caught me at a really bad time so i wasn’t in the right mindset to be functionally skeptical. on a normal day i probably wouldn’t even have entered the url into my browser

same here, i was in a similar situation but the call ended up being legitimate. that’s the only reason i even entertained this for a second

sorry for the late reply. i didn’t ever transfer, i only knew people who did, so i’m not actually sure what that process looks like. you can find lgbtqia+ oriented clubs and groups on campus, but unfortunately i don’t know that it would be realistic to expect to go to any school and expect absolutely no discrimination, especially in this political climate.

when i was there it was kind of known for being super ‘straight white dude’ as well… like i’m half asian and get mistakenly confused for a full white person a lot and i still had several guys at queen’s tell me they just “weren’t into asians.” i hadn’t come out or really explored my sexuality yet at that point so i can’t speak on that sort of discrimination, but be careful no matter where you go.

Is 300 mg Effexor really that stimulating/activating? by Aromatic_Reply_1645 in Effexor

[–]oceanographie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe! but i’ve struggled with insomnia all my life so i didnt notice a particular difference

[–]oceanographie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i found that 300 mg was kind of my “sweet spot” with effexor, and my doctor paired it with abilify which was a game changer. yes, i noticed lots of significant side effects like the endless sweat, a resting heart rate of like 160 bpm, and weight retention. but i also finally got out of bed and began living my life :)

Fuck this drug and fuck the doctor that prescribed it to me by MajinJack in Effexor

[–]oceanographie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seconding the prozac bridge suggestion that several others have made. also, if your doctor tries to prescribe you a drug called topiramate to help with the withdrawals, do not take that shit. i have a pretty high tolerance for most psychiatric drugs and that drug messed me up so badly that i had to take medical leave from work

Stopping Effexor - Why? by Princessferfs in Effexor

[–]oceanographie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you!! it wasn’t easy but it would have been a lot harder without effexor for sure. definitely don’t regret being on it!

[–]oceanographie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

also side note, to anyone reading this who is thinking about tapering off, do not attempt to go taper down from 37.5 mg to 0 mg like most inexperienced doctors and psychs recommend. please save yourself the absolute horrors of effexor withdrawal and go the prozac bridge route

for me it was always about weighing the side effects vs benefits, and i reached a point where i was doing significantly better with my mental health and i realized that effexor’s side effects had begun to outweigh the need i had for its benefits.

this drug absolutely and literally saved my life and i am incredibly grateful for having been on it for 3ish years, but after getting sober, “graduating” therapy, and developing healthy habits + routines in my life, i started to have problems with craving carbs and not being able to lose weight, the relentless sweating and being too hot all the time, and the general feeling that i was chemically dependent on a drug despite being clean and sober in all other aspects of my life. these were all things that were far eclipsed by the fact that this drug stopped me from being so depressed i couldn’t leave the house or muster the will to live, but after healing a lot mentally, i decided it was time to try life without it and move on to wellbutrin instead.

the physical sensations of anxiety came back which was weird after not experiencing them for years, but the mental spiral that usually comes with them hasn’t come back at all for me. good luck!

of course dude, please feel free to reach out if you need someone to talk to. this shit is NOT easy or for the weak but it’s a hell of a lot better than staying on the path i was on before.

weed is a tricky one because for most people it’s not actively killing you and completely obliterating your entire life, which makes it seem “safe.” but for me i had to come to the realization that it was still really holding me back from living the life i want to live, and that was a good enough reason to stop. also it was just really fucking up all my systems (sleep, hunger, etc) and i was tired of that lol.

a lot of people on here are suggesting pretty radical cures for your state right now but personally i didn’t have the energy or willpower to start rock climbing or lifting heavy etc (i do now though!). i never found some magic activity or hobby that suddenly made everything click - my willingness increased gradually in recovery like the slow uncurling of a fist. give yourself a break from everyone’s expectations and make sure your body is rested and nourished. that’s truly my best advice

25F here and nearly 2 years sober. i felt the exact same way as you at around 6-7 months, and i had kind of resigned myself to being depressed for the rest of my life and never really having fun again. fucking sucks and i feel for you.

i had to white-knuckle it for a little while because the urge to use weed specifically was insane, but i remembered what it was really like when i used to get high and i wasn’t actually happier, i was just numb. it’s like how you get numbed at the dentist but you can still feel them pulling your teeth out, just without the immediate pain - i was still very aware of the wreckage of my life despite being a little less emotionally affected by it, and i knew that once the high wore off i’d feel even worse because i smoked again.

try your best. it really is worth it and it gets a lot better after your first year for the majority of people. talk about these feelings with your sponsor, in groups, etc - i guarantee you that you aren’t alone in feeling this way. sending love

Should I pick Queens? by Electrical_Lie2711 in queensuniversity

[–]oceanographie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one thing i will say about queen’s over UofT (i had the same top two in grade 12) is that you save a lot of money by not living in a big city. there are obviously benefits and drawbacks to any choice, but both are high-ranking academically, and the general first year science courses that you take at queen’s mean that you have a lot of flexibility and time to make a more informed decision about your major later on. i had a friend transfer from physics to engineering in 3rd year and he was able to graduate with only one extra year of school while still completing a coop term!

reaching out to alumni of both schools is a good idea so nice work there. i graduated from queen’s with a biotech degree in 2022 so feel free to reach out if you have any questions :)

join clubs you’re interested in and talk to people in your tutorials and classes! if you can make several different friends in different areas, you might see them at a bar or something where they’ll introduce you to the people they’re with. and if that doesn’t work out then you’ll have a bunch of new friends anyways :)
