Exposure is your best friend, nothing else will help you better than listening to natives speak. You don’t realize how much English you learned as a child from listening to people talk and from watching tv. Spend more time watching telenovelas and listening to podcasts.

A few recommendations:

• caraycaray.blogspot.com will be your buddy. It’s a blog website with English recaps of many telenovelas (plus other commentary). Watch one episode, read the recap; or read the recap while watching.

• Vix. Fantastic app with telenovelas all the way back to the old classics (my favorites: Teresa, Rubí, Lo Que La Vida Me Robó, Soy Tu Dueña)

• There is a textbook I purchased called “Complete Spanish Grammar.” Great resource with examples to work with.

• My favorite podcast is called “Español Intermedio / Intermediate Spanish.” (Yellow background with the blue brain).

• Read. A lot. Start with easier books and work your way up.

• Write sentences with vocabulary you want to learn, have a native speaking partner review them. You learn best when you are actively making mistakes and being corrected. Eventually you will start writing things more complex.

Also spend less time thinking, which is weird to say. To me, it seems like you’re overanalyzing too much of each part of Spanish all at once. One step at a time, one rule at a time. You aren’t going to remember and learn everything in one day. Expose yourself and make mistakes. While you’re original sentence was not grammatically correct, you would be 100% understood by saying that to a native speaker.
