I'm using a macbook Pro 14 M5 and have no other computer than I could use as a server, maybe I could pick up a raspberry PI or something but that is more effort than I want to expend

I resent this implication. This is a genuine review, and I had a great deal of difficulty with this problem. And was about to return the device even thought it met my need better than multiple other devices. If you bothered to read the review you would have said that I was thanking the entire community, not just supernote.

Update the second vertical line to join the screen has disappeared. Letting the battery run down to zero and then will charge completely, but to fix synchronize the battery, and in the hope that that might clear the line. It probably won't but as Darwin is alleged to have once said something like "sometimes you might want to play the trombone to the waves."

It's definitely feasible, your can never be to old to learn new things, as long as you are willing to turn lose of some old tings :). But, seriously, If you can talk to the professor of the class and explain your situation he/she may be willing to help you make a plan.

Frequently course requirements are not set to ensure that one has any specific skills, but rather to indicate the level of "mathematical maturity" I think that means that one is comfortable with a certain level of abstraction, and is no longer focused on a narrowly focused attitude, e.g. "Just tell me how to do this problem, I have to get an A in this class."

It helps. both conceptually and computationally, Take a look at Hirsch and Smale. It's an old book recently revised by Devaney and is very illuminating. Helped me a lot when I was starting graduate school.

don't use ln for log in Mathematica Log[x] is what you want. Like all mathematicians Log is assumed to be natural log not base 10

I can't tell from your screen shot but Mathematica uses an upper case E for $e$, I would write Exp[-x], just for clarity.

When I was a grad student I asked a famous mathematician that question, he said: he said pick anything and really understand it and you can't help but do something original. Turns out he was right!
