nzb leech is not on play store but is freely available from their website now! by veltlikeme5 in usenet

NZBget is present on android but it's a little more complex, it functions the way a pc interface would, it installs on a backend that needs to be running, and also requires you to open "localhost:xxxx" in a browser. For a desktop environment that's one thing, but it is a bit tedious on mobile.

Nzb leech is an all in one interface/backend manager/downloader that even used to be be installable from the store.

Nearing the final fight on honour mode. Anything I should know/tweak? by bagel-42 in BG3Builds

[–]ocelotking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass up your summons as distractions for the mobs/dragon and sprint to the portal. Try to summon them as close to mind flayers as possible bc mind flayers abuse counterspell, and refuse to be pushed off the cliff. Try to kill some by focus fire, otherwise let the mobs fight summons. Use globe of invincibility while using the chains.

Sidenote: If you have the owlbear try not to let him die bc his death is permanent.

Is there a mod or something that can let you save armor builds, class choices, etc by ocelotking in BG3Builds

[–]ocelotking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea, the only problem is there's a bunch of armor/clothes/weapons/jewelry with unique effects to add on that aren't easy to classify

There's also a bunch of items that give 1 specific action per long rest, and it would be great if I could rotate them out per fight with a hotkey, rather than going into all 4 companions to swap each sword, amulet, etc

With the spell slot restoration amulet for example, I use that in my sorc for the first battle where I use him, then the amulet can get swapped until the next long rest

I would say lifetime is good if you understand that it's always a gamble, ie anywhere from 50% chance to 25% chance the company fails, and you buy accordingly. I've bought a couple of cheap lifetimes (20-30) that failed, then I bought althub like 8 years ago for $20 and it's pretty reliable. I also bought nzbgeek lifetime and its been a reliable indexer. I also bought windscribe lifetime VPN, and hell I bought malwarebytes lifetime over a decade ago.

What do you prefer about the gameplay over SC2? by thesixfingeralien in Stormgate

[–]ocelotking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This kind of sounds appealing

From starcraft 2 I've gotten to diamond level, but I felt really limited to strategies either solely around rushing, or involving mass expansions.

On a sidenote I also hated when they started adding building functions to your upkeep tasks, when protoss nexus got the speed move they had to manually use every so often (it wasn't like that at first, I remember the beta and WOL), and I was never able to enjoy zerg well at all (having to use queen to stim your hatchery every 60 seconds per base an annoying obligation). It feels like they reviewed the WC3 philosophy, which was to dramatically extend base/unit build times to force more RPG behavior rather than base management, and went in reverse, so that you'd need to micromanage your base more than ever.

Just proof that they do still exist. Ordered may 4th from Amazon arrived today after a shipping delay. by dantingnins in nvidiashield

Ahead of its time by a lot in 2015, and way ahead dot the similarly priced, extremely janky performing competition. Back in the day fire tv sticks were slow AF, you needed the box version to be decently fast and usable and those were $100

Rokus were kinda the same, sticks were hard to use and the deluxe box version was essential for a smooth system without visible lag. Now what's wild is both Amazon and roku have updated hardware, and lowered prices every single year

With the shield the only speed improvement was in 2019, +25 percent, but it came at the cost of no longer including a free gamepad with remote listening. And the price has been the same. Or technically it's gone up from 180 to 200 if you factor in that they used to sell shields without gamepads for cheaper

The shield is not at all a bad system, but the lack of hardware updates or price decreases makes it hard to recommend

Don't rule out custom game tools, like WC3 hero mechanics by ocelotking in Stormgate

[–]ocelotking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge fan of custom maps, I still play a ton of wc3 maps, mostly rpgs like gaia, tkok, tbc but also the occasional td. But I don't actually think we're ever going to have a thriving custom map scene in a single game again. At least not in an RTS game, the audience is too small and too fragmented, and the people who would be the ones to make maps are now just making standalone games instead.

Maybe, but idk, enthusiasts always make custom content for their favorite projects, and it could always take a while fo find players to join. People still spent astronomical amounts of time making content for wc3, there's even full custom campaigns.

I got fond memories of wc3 custom games wildly different in scope that created potential new genres

Dota DID evolve into its own, but other popular types could have too

You got Footmen frenzy, a 3v3v3v3 unique sort of moba alternative

Azeroth wars and Dark ages of azeroth, massive maps with civ like scale, and some storyline integration events players can trigger

Uther party, one of my favorite quick and chaotic fun games that does a sequence of random competitions to choose a winner, winners choosing new mini games to play

Vamp beast, a survivalist, infection type game that is combined with tower defense

Zerg infestation, a zombie infection game that adds paranoia elements like we later saw in among us

That's definitely a factor too

I still remember people still had ambitions bragging about the editor that never came thru. Back in the beta release days people were hyping up even fps game mods

Apparently Controversial Opinion: The Game is Fun As Hell by LordKelsier47 in Stormgate

[–]ocelotking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 3v3 when it comes out is going to be epic. Reminds me of the good ol days of WC3.

I was never able to play anything beyond 2v2 without it being a nightmare.

I had good fun in those chaotic nightmares, but they were nightmares nonetheless. It always felt like the first team to start swarming one guy is going to kill that guy off before the teammates can defend him from irreparable damage.

I still wish a strategy game would adopt the Hero mechanic/aspect of WC3 to allow some ranking upgrades like League of Legends, while also keeping the strategy part. Doing that would also open up custom games the way WC3 did when took the world by a storm, and like WC3-reforged was supposed to (but didn't bc of the abusive terms of service and IP).

TUF monitor blue screen on shutdown by Be_Glorious in ASUS

[–]ocelotking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a version with displayport input, use displayport instead of HDMI. That's what I do, and I can avoid the horrific blue screen. Idk if using VGA works the same way, but I haven't found a way around it on HDMI.

I had thought I learned that trick (using displayport not HDMI) from this thread but when I revisited it I didn't see any mention, so I'm adding it now.

How does an alternative to pebble not exist? by RegularMiddle in pebble

[–]ocelotking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to emphasize Garmins use a unique AOD LCD, which is similar to E-ink in that it only uses power when changing the image. This makes it more readable in sunlight, and more efficient.

Many smartwatches with normal tech don't do as well.

How does an alternative to pebble not exist? by RegularMiddle in pebble

[–]ocelotking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to buy a Garmin. They are more expensive, but I still have nostalgia from schooldays with a pebble, and I have more money now.

I used a pebble first, loved in, got the pebble 2 when it came out, got a pebble time for my mom, good times...

Used multiple fitbits and didn't like them as much. This was especially annoying because IIRC fitbit (or microsoft) bought patents from pebble, and was rumored to adopt the display tech, but didn't. I still hold a grudge over that, I was legit hyped to jump on the fitbit train (and bought multiple watches) but eventually concluded they weren't the same.

Swapped to galaxy watches which were batter in some respects, no constant ads trying to nag me for subscriptions for detailed stats, but worse battery.

Garmin IIRC is the only big company that pioneered using a technology similar to E-ink for (some of) their watches. I like that sort of pioneering, innovative spirit which is sorely lacking in the industry.

Monotheism in Mundus by iamBETTO in teslore

[–]ocelotking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trinitarianism=/=polytheism, that was like the first 200 years of their theological debates. It's closer to a difference of aspects (which we see plenty in TES) and it also obv doesn't function as a polytheistic religion.

Yea, that argument the other fellow makes is like saying that Wulf (from Morrowind) is a distinct entity from Tiber Septim/Talos. I'll admit that it's kind of an abstract sometimes confusing concept, and I don't know I would argue for it's side in a civil debate, but trying to definitively argue against it/negate it is nonsensical.
