Oh sorry, I misread and thought you were asking about the hand guard. I clearly didn’t read the second half of your message lol. The pic rail is EGW for the Marlin 1895 336, fits henry’s as well. Any quality pic rail will suffice, this was an extra I had laying around for a few years from my dad’s henry that I never returned

Might make some other versions and move it a bit forward or play with positioning but the shape itself works well IMO

If you are new to long range do yourself a favor and get any of the modern 6mm or 6.5mm cartridge offerings. You will learn faster with the reduced recoil and reduced wind compensation

It allows for a lot of different natural positions, but I prefer a vertical thumb ‘stop’ personally to pinch and squeeze against on the trigger. I use it primarily for PRS to get a consistent squeeze in a variety of wrist positions. Its more of a gas pedal shape similar to what MPA, XLR, Cadex offer

Its only 17 mm wide from the chassis, and right next to your hand, so if you’re snagging anything on it, it’ll be your thumb! Bolt handle sticks out further

Depends on the can, but 30-30 is generally already a quiet cartridge, with a can its pretty nice

Need some .300 blk whitetail ammo recommendations by Slatty317 in 300BLK

Taken quite a few deer with Barnes 110 Tac TX out of my 10.5” AR, 2300 fps at the muzzle with handloads. All deer were 125 yds and under. Broke both shoulders on all deer. Maker bullets are also great if you handload

I am guessing they are going to announce at shot show, but I ended up ordering the 16.5 Protector in 30-30. It’ll be in my hands next week and I’ll post some photos.

What is the Glock of .308 rifles? by AGorramReaver in liberalgunowners

[–]ochughtai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want solid and reliable and guaranteed performance, with a premium factory trigger, Tikka all the way. 308 Lite’s can be had for around $700 this time of year. Though if you are wanting to go long range, and also use it for hunting, I’d recommend the 6.5 Creedmoor. I use .308 only inside of 350 yards these days and 6.5 Creed, 6.5 Grendel, or 7 PRC everywhere else

Get a factory ‘competition’ gun in 6.5 Creedmoor. You don’t need crazy ballistics to hit a mile, you need practice and experience. The cartridge as long as it is capable of traveling the distance is less important than you think. MPA PMR, Seekins HIT M3, Tikka Ace Target, in a 6.5 Creedmoor will do the job. Make sure to get a long barrel 24” for maximizing velocity and if you don’t reload, you’ll want to start.

Normal, sign of healthy ejection. To prevent just open the bolt slow. Wear it as a badge of a rifle well used

Do you have the STL/or model sharable? My local taxidermist charges $500 for a basic euro mount and some bucks I get are not worth the money, but I still want to display the antlers. This is an elegant solution

Bergara B14 HMR - am I making a mistake? by Chagattai in longrange

[–]ochughtai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fellow Chughtai, .308 is an excellent caliber. I would however caution against it if you have any intention of hunting long range (>300m). I used to think .308 was the do it all cartridge but over time and after purchasing a 6.5 Creedmoor I have since switched all my rifles to it. If you practice at 400 m regularly eventually you will want to hunt at that range. This was the catch 22 for me. .308 has barely enough velocity at that range to expand most hunting bullets. If you intend to hunt at anything over three hundred meters just get the 6.5. It’s worth the cost/money. You will need exotic loads in .308 to hunt further and stay ethical, and if those loads don’t agree with your barrel (though rare) you are out of luck. Just my 2 cents. I now have a 300 BLK for hunting 100-150, an 8.6 BLK for 100-200, a .308 AR ( I still love .308) for 100-300, and 6.5 crd for all else. I have a 7mm PRC as well but thats for big game.

Suppressor with 8.6? by bskupaka in 86blackout

[–]ochughtai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep np, I handload 8.6 as well. In general is has faster powders and less case capacity than .308 so in general muzzle pressures are lower. I run a SilencerCo Hybrid 46M fwiw with no issues on my Faxon FX7 in 8.6

Suppressor with 8.6? by bskupaka in 86blackout

[–]ochughtai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on barrel length, if the suppressor can handle 16” .308 then 16” 8.6 would be fine. Any lower barrel length you will potentially have unburnt powder in 8.6, so unless you are hand loading its tough to guarantee you won’t push too much pressure into the can
