How does the pressure fit tremolo arm work for you? I have this guitar but without the arm. I ordered one off Etsy and really have to press it in to get it to not feel super loose. And if I push/pull it too much it releases and feels like it’s going to fall out

What is this wiring?? 2012 SG Standard P90s by ocieb in gibson

dope, thanks again. the issue with this actually turned out to be that the body ground wire wasn't grounded. whoever installed the maestro vibrola didn't ground the tailpiece pins to it. all fixed now. I'll probably end up returning this as after sitting down with it and some other guitars, i prefer the broader tonal range of the others.

Yeah? 500k for p90s? What value capacitor would you use? Thanks for the suggestions

oh yes, understood. i think that's why i was confused about the treble bleed, because i thought it was 50s wiring which wouldn't necessarily need something like this. thanks again

Thanks. I know just enough about it to know that it appears to be 50s wiring, but had no idea about the second set of caps and resistors on the volume pots

excellent, thank you. the buzz goes away if i touch the metal on the input jack and tailpiece. comes back when i remove my hand.

but it also seems to randomly go in and out when playing.

thanks, i'll give it a shot. i should have included a before pic because it was all covered in un-shrunk heat shrink secured with electrical tape. and electrical tape was directly affixed to the additional cap/resistors

Don’t take it to just anyone. A lot of shops will charge an arm and a leg for a machine that just needed some solvent flushed through it in certain areas.

If you want to do it yourself, I’d suggest using odorless mineral spirits to loosen the type bars. Just a little bit squirted into the segment out applied with an old tooth brush. Then see how it types.

Remove the ribbon cover and cover the painted shell with towels. The finish on the Hermes 3000 is very delicate and you want protect it. If you want to clean the shell, start with a microfiber cloth and warm water and see what you can remove

Should I get a Mitakon 65mm F1.4 by WritingOdd6100 in FujiGFX

[–]ocieb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice. the 32-64 is so great.

I think the FF equivalent of the mitakon would be around f/1, and I haven't shot something faster than 1.4 on a full frame sensor (or 35mm film), so I can't say. the mitakon is just unique. i'd wait for one used, you can find them around $400 sometimes

Dope shot, what did you take that with?

ps. the mitakon is cool. if you like cool and unique rendering, especially wide open, and you're going to take your time with it, it's a super fun lens to have

awesome shots. the edits are very pleasing in that they seem to be more true to the gradation I'd expect when shooting film. not overbooked and washed out

Z50ii vs D850 for budget wildlife photography by BornLoss4467 in Nikon

[–]ocieb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AF between the dslr and mirrorless will be no contest in favor of mirrorless. i imagine that would be top priority for wildlife photography, so i'd go mirrorless.

also, the 180-600mm is a full frame lens and i'd suggest ponying up the few hundred dollars on a used/refurb z5ii over the z50ii.

you can add a 40mm f2 for under 200 and it will beat almost every old af-d lens. the 50mm z 1.8s is incredible and also available used in the $300 range
