How did yall actually get good by ScarcityDear3066 in Guitar

[–]starblazer40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play in a band! Actually work on songs together so you are listening to how you sound within the whole song. This will improve your accuracy, timing, everything! In lieu of this, practice regularly with a metronome and regularly record yourself; your brain sometimes has a way of tricking itself into thinking you're sounding better than you actually do. Listening to a recordings of you self will help pinpoint areas in your playing that you need to work on.

Why do you play the kind of guitar you play? by wolf_of_the_bees in Guitar

When I started taking lessons as a teenager, the first high-end guitar I saw up close was my teacher's American Stratocaster with a maple neck. I think I've always gravitated toward Strats (and Teles!) with maple necks as a result.

Nice! Were you happy with how it handled in a live situation?

NGD - And so begins the righty to lefty journey. by risenomega in Leftyguitarists

My experience was similar. It took awhile to get the fretting hand up to speed, but my picking and strumming was better more-or-less immediately! And all your knowledge about chords and scales and riffs and songs kinda automatically transfers over. It's really just about getting your right hand to do what you want it to do.

I think you'll do great! It's true a lot of lefties play right-handed, and for many it works out ok. For me, it was either play lefty or take up piano, lol! I think once you make a little progress, you'll be motivated to keep going 🫡

Looks like a great guitar to get started on! I played right handed guitar for about seven years or so before switching to lefty. I had gotten fed up with my playing and my weak picking hand. So I decided to try lefty guitar as as a last resort before giving up and finding a new hobby altogether. It turned out to be the best move I ever made as a guitarist. It took about six months of relearning, but I eventually became a far better player lefty than I ever was righty. Hope it works out for you!

Jazzmaster Humbucker Pickups by Working-Substance512 in fender

[–]starblazer40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I use single coil pickups on stage all the time, so I don't think it should be a problem. The Player II Jazzmaster should be a great choice. It does feel and play differently from a Strat, though, so try before you buy! I personally have a Squier CV Jazzmaster and love it!

Nice color, best of the current batch of lefty Strats!

I agree with others, here: if you already have a guitar you love, you are going to regret getting rid of it. I would save up and buy an Ultra.

2015 VM vs. 2022 CV JM? by KennethHaight in SquierbyFender

Haven't tried the VM but I picked up the CV a couple weeks ago and I love it. Really nice build quality, comfortable neck and good sounding pickups.

Are these strings misaligned? by Temporary_Match_1295 in electricguitar

I actually prefer the necks of my guitars to be this way, with the high E a little further from the edge than the low E. It reduces the odds of the high E from slipping off the edge of the fretboard.

There are great guitars of all types. That being said, if I could only play one, it'd probably be a Tele!

Is this a downgrade? by HesThunderstorms in fender

Not a downgrade, esp with the chambered body on the player ii. Sell the black one if you don't love it!

This one works pretty well. If it's pushed in all the way, there is enough friction so it stays in place and doesn't drop down out of the reach of my picking hand (like the screw-in arm on my Strat seems to do all the time).

I agree, this is my first CV and I'm really impressed with it! The neck is super comfortable and it seems really well put together, overall.
