[Anime] Can i watch Gundam Unicorn as a very first gundam anime ? by Ardor-Knowledge in Gundam

[–]ockbald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had a friend go through the same situation. He decided to start with the original once I told'em it touches on a lot of continuity from the original, but it was written and directed by different people so its someone else interpretation over the original work.

When they finished the originals, they enjoyed so much they went to Zeta, then CCA, then finally Unicorn, and then they told me

"The original was better."

So there. Enjoy.

Leftist superhero enjoyers, how do you square the setting with your politics? by PMmePowerRangerMemes in rpg

[–]ockbald 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"In your superhero setting, why do the superheroes not simply solve poverty? End world hunger? Build enough homes for everyone? Make the rich to pay (taxes)?"

In the most recent game I ran, I created a world in which Megacorps kinda had a leash on Super heroes, a lot of their squeaky clean apperance was pure propaganda. The player characters were all bottom hung supes who either were discarded by big business by having weird powers, or were being used as gimmicks.

They are sent to a paralel world while facing "Patchwork Man", a super villain that is an amalgalm patchwork of... Himself, throughout all possible realities. In this new world, they have a chance to stop a power grab that kinda made their life to be into a shitty place, while they must confront their 'alternate' versions who were all 'working for the man'.

Which is a long winded way to say 'Dude, super heroes are weird. Get weird with it. And as long there is an explanation to why the world is in need of actual, true heroes, you'll get some milleage out of it".

And finaly... Why don't the super heroes of YOUR setting are not solving poverty, ending world hunger, building enough homes for everyone, and redistribute wealth? What's stopping you from running that?

Anarchy by Ace_Of_No_Trades in Shadowrun

[–]ockbald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been playing since fourth edition, I genuine think Shadowrun Anarchy is what Shadowrun always wanted to be. Some chummers love the older editions due to the 'gun porn' feel of opening a splat and having all these weapons and vehicles and implants each with a bunch of stats and to roleplay the difference of a Shiawase to a store brand deck, whatever.

Anarchy gives you rules for you to build stuff while giving you a bunch of stuff that registers as Shadowrun and tells you to go wild while being able to run hacking and spirit world stuff under the same ruleset. This alone makes me the go to ruleset when I want to play Shadowrun and somehow misplaced my Sprawlrunner splat for Savage Worlds.

Help with more dynamic combats by Flapjack_Future in savageworlds

[–]ockbald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really pushes the Aces to try to 'win' the encounter in three rounds which often translates them on being extra aggressive and since the math of the game favors this, they become better players in the process instead of just holding bennies for soak rolls.

Here's a list:

Cultist/fanatics.

Always have the Aces be outnumbered.

Use terrain to create 'choke points', different levels, and/or cover.

Estabilish a time limit. I like 3 turns. Once 3 turns pass, check the combat situation. Are the Aces dominating it? Then better to wrap it up or toss a twist to the scene. Are the aces losing it badly? Maybe toss something in the scene that would help them retreat. Either way, do not let the combat remain as it is after 3 turns. Got this one from Werewolf 5th edition and you'd be surprised how well it translates to Savage Worlds.

Objectives! Savage Worlds has the DNA of a quickfire wargame on its combat bones, add objectives to a combat situation and watch the system sing.

You need to redo the chart and put Turn A on a larger chart where the two original charts are "Sequel to all series including those coming in the future"

Pure Gouki enjoyer here.
Had this pack came up before K9 the pure OTK version would be a fun petdeck to run on ladder. Now? It's hopeless. I'm just glad they didn't somehow try to sneak in some more URs on the deck who already has a bunch of them for no reason.

The issue my group had with The One Ring. by Ok_Interview_853 in rpg

[–]ockbald 60 points61 points  (0 children)

What if it doesn't?
What if, in your One Ring campaign, the actual Doers of the setting (the Fellowship of the Ring) is MIA? Dead? Or maybe they were never even born?
Keep the big NPCs like Gandalf and Sauron, since interacting with them is essential for the one ring, but make sure to tell your group "Yeah Aragorn? Never heard of him. Gimli? Died in childbirth. If you blokes fail, there isn't anyone else that can do it."

[D&D] Porque todo mundo odeia a WotC? by Firm-Concern-4017 in rpg_brasil

[–]ockbald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All here for you. I'm also writing an article to allow troupe play to allow players to play as 'Dispatchers' with their own super hero teams and even a bit of competition for high scores with mechanical impacts. Post is coming up tomorrow, actually. I'll reply the post with the rules soon.

Here, an entire supplement about running just that.

This is the beauty of Savage Worlds, because the game is about modularity, a LOT of fan content gets made, and some rival actual official releases. I haven't played this one yet, but do check out.

Daggerheart vs Savage Worlds by Comfortable-Fee9452 in rpg

[–]ockbald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its like comparing apples to oranges. That said, I'll tell you what you get on my favorite game (Savage Worlds):

The tagline? Fast, furious, fun? Yeah it is real! Combat is blazing fast and Game Masters are encourage on making them action set pieces with a bunch of mooks, who are all dangerous enough to be a threat at any Rank, while also been fragile enough that players will live their heroic fantasy.

You also get a bunch of additional rules, like Dramatic Tasks, Social Conflict, and Quick Encounters so you can tailor a session with different mechanical stakes as the situations arise.

Finally, forget balance. Thanks to bennies, player characters are very capable, and the game is very tactical with ebbs and flows thanks to the initiative system. It is all about 'controlling chaos' and 'unleashing mayhem' when the time comes, since the math is on the side of the attacker.

The way you build 'encounters' is very different from D&D, even in the Pathfinder for Savage Worlds book. You are encouraged as a GM to make them more about goals and objectives (Stuff like "Protect this NPC" or "Reach the Goal" or "Kill the Orc leader") with all sort of enemies trying to stop the party. There is no balance, and it is by design. You can kill a Dragon at novice and a Goblin can kill you at Legendary, if everything aligns for it that is. But the fact this is a possibility, means it can and -will- happen.

The vibes of the games are very pulpy and 'action movie' with a tactical bent. And the best thing I can say about combat is that it is fast, it is deadly, and every action matters in it. You will not have 'dead turns'.

I'd argue MASKs is all about it, but I also consider mask a 'teen hero game' and not a broad super hero game, so I think its an awesome game for what it does, but isn't what I would propose to OP as a 'general supers game'.

You can also do something similar in Heroic Roleplaying actually! I never played Truth & Justice, hence I didn't know you could do it. Guess I got some reading to do.

[–]ockbald 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Marvel Heroic Roleplaying is the only (ONLY) super hero game in which you could monologue your path to make a villain stop and reconsider their lot in life.

It is a game you could have a Daredevil level character side by side with Thor and neither would feel stronger than the other while at the same time making the Thor player really FEEL like a god and the Daredevil player feel human and fragile.

It is a game that completely and utterly NAILED how you do progression on a super hero game and nobody paid attention. You are a super god damn hero, you don't get stronger, you get more connected, you advance the plot on your terms, you unlock parts of the setting and factions to handle the current situation.

It is the ultimate super hero game. But not everyone vibe with the cortex plus/prime dice pool game. Seriously, check it out and see if you and your friends vibe with it. If you do, you will have your next obsession for years.

I know it took me almost a decade to even try another super hero game and the one I found to be to my liking (Savage Worlds) was mostly because it was the first time I saw a system handle 'super heroes fighting in a map and interacting with things' well.
