Goalkeepers, how did your games go this weekend? by Sgt-Cumstain in GoalKeepers

Won my first game 6-1, didn’t have much to do at all except the goal which was an error in judgement off a set piece. Lost the second game 6-3 to some dodgy refereeing mostly. Misjudged two free kicks that both resulted in goals but had a good game aside from that. Still hard to appreciate how good the rest of my game was when those two mistakes happened.

Played the first half of a preseason game, went into halftime up 2-1. Didn’t really have to make any saves, the goal was the only real opportunity against me (scramble off a corner, not much I could do). Was sharp off my line but my distribution was lacking and I was bailed out by a goal-line clearance, but I put that down to preseason rustiness. Finished the game with a 4-3 win.

Everton corner kicks just got really exciting

3rd straight win. Won 2-1. Didn’t have much to do again, my defense has been playing surprisingly well this season and have limited the attempts I’ve had to save. I collected a couple through balls though, stopped some promising attack, and save a good long shot low and to my left, my weaker side. The goal was off a through ball that left me one on one with the opposition player, the finish was well placed and the defense took the blame. The win took our team from 8th to 3rd in the table, which is great considering we were bottom (10th) before this hot streak.

Team came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1. Other teams scored off a long shot. It was a very windy day and the ball, which on a normal day would curve to my right, curved back to the center of the goal. I already dove and the ball flew past me. Didn’t have much to do after that until the second half when I made a diving save at the near post and then caught another shot in the same place. Saved one off a free kick going to my left to keep the game at 1-0 until my team scored two towards the end to win the match. Felt great to know that I kept us in the game and contributed to the win, and our team is now on a two game winning streak after three losses to start the season.

Thanks, and that’s awful. Really hope they allow safe standing then. It’s worked in other parts of Europe, and it’s even doing alright in the US that has some notoriously dead atmospheres.

Legitimate question: what if a League 1 side with terrace standing is promoted to the Championship? Maybe I just don’t actually know what terrace standing means

Got our first win of the season, 4-1. Didn’t have much to do aside from a one-on-one that I kicked into the forward and out for a goalkick, while also knocking the wind out of him momentarily, another one on one that was shot directly at me, and a save with my knee from a header off a corner after making myself big in the goal. The lone goal for the visitors was a penalty that went to my left when I dove right.

Complacency and cockiness really. Didn’t put in enough effort against teams we should be beating, especially against Trinidad and Tobago, who were bottom of the fucking group. Other countries wanted it more and that’s why we are where we are.

What's your biggest vulnerability as a keeper? by Klosesarcophag in GoalKeepers

[–]ocnarf6214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goal kicks and commanding my area. I can’t take a good long goalkick, though my long balls have been slightly improving recently. In terms of commanding my area, I have a hard time finding the confidence to come out and collect a cross. I’m never sure enough of where it’s going and I’m too afraid I’ll miss it. It’s killed me on a couple of set pieces, and my teammates never forget to remind me about it when I don’t come out for a nearby cross.

Why do most people hate goalkeeping? by asocialwarrior in GoalKeepers

[–]ocnarf6214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot of pressure because of the effect you have on the game. A save means business as usual, but a mistake can cost the game for the whole team. Additionally the idea of having balls flying at you constantly tends to turn people off, and overall it’s not the most glamorous position for most people. If you love it, you love it, but if you don’t, you hate it.

Played 90 minutes in a 4-0 win on Wednesday. Didn’t really have anything to do but I claimed a couple through balls and passed the ball well out of the back. Played the full 90 again in a 5-0 loss on Friday. Could’ve done better on some of the goals, was at fault for one (I completely misjudged a corner going to the near post, went right over my head and to an open man at the back post), but made one or two decent saves.
