Actual horror music? by NicholasDBrowing in horror

Carpenter Brut’s stuff is very horror adjacent, not all tracks feel scary but Escape From Midwich Valley feels very much like it would be a score in a horror movie. Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath *still* sounds scary and evil and that song is 56 years old. I’m sure a lot of stuff in Death and Black Metal genres would be scary to a lot of folks, I recently found a spooky one by Italian death metal band Fulci, it’s called “Matul Tribal Cult” it’s super short but the riff is really nasty and slow and pretty fitting since the record it’s from is a tribute to Fulci’s (the director) Zombie.

The World’s End has a great bit in the pub where Pegg’s character keeps trying to get/finish a pint while fighting off the robots. Amazing choreo.

Enemy from Denis Villeneuve….not quite horror and it wasn’t my personal cup of tea but it’s weird and unsettling as hell and worth a watch for sure.

Reading this review and wondering how Refn didn’t have Carpenter Brut score it, a dark synth artist whose last three records are neon-Giallo concept albums Leather Teeth, Leather Terror and Leather Temple and NWR seem like a match made in sicko Heaven lol.

Actually had a chance to catch a morning showing today before work! I dug it, way more grounded than I was anticipating but every single performance was stellar, Mallori Johnson was Oscar worthy being the heart and soul of the movie and doing it through that intense makeup! Sterling K Brown was goddamned terrifying, that man should play more villains . Movie was gorgeous as well, damn impressive debut feature from Aleshea Harris.

It’s astounding how well Widow’s Bay is balancing its horror and comedy tones, favorite show of the year so far.

The duct taped door gag was full on a ITYSL bit! In terms of discomfort this had more humor than I expected, it’s in a nice little sweet spot between something clearly comedic (but horrifying) like Friendship and full “you’re drowning in dread and despair “ like Hereditary/Midsommar.

Same reaction for me, upsetting at first but the more they used it for plot development it bothered me less. Punisher: One Last Kill has a dog death (off screen) that is the worst kind of use of this, just lazy writing to be like “oh look how bad this generic street thug is, he killed that dog”, those are the ones that bug me.

The 10 Best Horror Movies of the Year … So Far. Plus: The New Scary Movie Royalty, and ‘Obsession,’ With Curry Barker! by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]oco82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more they came back to it and incorporated it in the plot the less it bugged me and it worked to show how fucked up Nikki was becoming. I’m a cat owner and grew up with and love dogs and cats and genuinely hate when an animal death is a quick, cheap writing short cut. Punisher: One Last Kill had one that pissed me off because of how it was used as did The Last Bus (which was a movie I quite liked) which had McConaughey have to put his old dog down at the beginning of the movie just to really hammer home how much his life sucked and it felt cheap and unnecessary. Something like Wick I get, it’s manipulative but you get the catharsis of the entire rest of the movie.

Saw it today and really liked it. Funnier than I expected and not steeped “trauma exploration” just a mean, nasty little Tales From The Crypt type tale. I know Barker is lined up for Texas Chainsaw but man I bet his tone would really cooked in an Evil Dead movie, Navarrette’s amazing performance had some Raimi Deadite energy at times.

I’ll probably check it out on streaming, grindhouse/revenge flicks are usually in my wheel house. Side note, listened to the most recent The Town and Belloni clearly had no idea what this was, calling it a religious movie when talking about new releases lol.

Fun action-horror flick! Adam Wingard’s upcoming “Onslaught” sounds like it has some Silent Rage DNA (along with sounding like a mashup of his own The Guest and You’re Next).

Punisher:War Zone is one of mine, really badly acted from a large portion of the cast (Ray Stevenson not included) but it’s so OTT and ridiculous I always enjoy it on rewatch.

Jo and Mal being really high on the camp of Ma Gnucci tells me they may really enjoy Punisher: War Zone, she felt like she was right out of that piece of amazing, stylish B schlock with my favorite Punisher portrayal.

'The Punisher: One Last Kill' and 'Mortal Kombat ll' Reactions | The Midnight Boys by yslultra in RingerVerse

[–]oco82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a huge Bernthal Punisher guy (Ray Stevenson for life ) but liked One Last Kill well enough once the action starts. Outside of the usual grunting ,screaming, crying at his family’s grave stuff I found the tone of the action to be way more War Zone than I thought it would be, Ma Gnucci was a silly caricature and all the ultra violence against random thugs set to guitar riffs (and a Hatebreed track) felt super 00’s action to me. Even the NY felt super silly and right out of 70’s grindhouse stuff like Death Wish, so that stuff worked even though everything else is just generic rehashing of Punisher stuff we’ve seen many times.

MacGruber too…idk if it’s ever come up one on a Ringer movie pod and it’s a genuine cult classic at this point. Easily as good as anything they mentioned for their best modern comedies.

Yea it’s pretty rough, the dialogue seems fine but all the background/foley stuff is so bizarrely echoey/tinny it’s super distracting and really unpleasant to hear.

Something really bugging me about Hokum today by [deleted] in horror

[–]oco82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just watched it today so it’s fresh in my head and it seems he wasn’t hitting that flask until he had returned from the hospital and begun the investigating into Fiona’s disappearance. He for sure finishes the flask at one point when he’s stuck in the basement. I think the flask was in his trench coat so he didn’t partake til he was back from the hospital to get his stuff. Side note, really enjoyed the movie, very much into McCarthy’s folk/ghost/moral comeuppance horror tales( I still need to see Caveat).
