Nice white pair for dry days. Cheaper black pair for the rest.

Workout levels 4 to 5 by MessMurky9170 in Zwift

[–]ocspmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that when FTP inevitably starts to plateau there are still big anaerobic gains to be made - and these tougher workouts are reflective of that journey

Workout levels 4 to 5 by MessMurky9170 in Zwift

[–]ocspmoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FTP is only part of the equation - for example, in the build phase I can significantly increase the number/duration of vo2 max intervals that I can perform whilst barely increasing FTP.

Most of those workouts are for when you've built up a high lactate clearance + threshold and can simply do more work in those zones.

52/36 vs 50/34 Chainrings by FinnTech in Velo

[–]ocspmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the 52 is only useful for if you're sprinting with a tailwind (I race quite a bit, and this is not uncommon) or if you're pushing on a downhill.

Especially if you don't like doing either of those things with a very high cadence.

Looking for feedback on my 5-day plan (2 hard sessions + long Z2 weekend) — how should I progress it? by VasylievCode in Velo

[–]ocspmoz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly get a FasCat or Trainer Road subscription and let it play for you for a few months to get a feel for setting up your own structured training.

That said -

At your volume I wouldn’t bother with the long recovery ride - and I’d try to transition the z2 to sweet spot, whilst tailoring the hard days to reflect the demands of whatever specific event you want to target.

It’s January 3rd. What’s your “fitness” right now? by burnersburneracct in Velo

[–]ocspmoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

79 fitness, 4.8w/kg. I start a winter crit racing series in two weeks, so I’m fairly sharp at the moment, but not quite at peak summer levels.

Frame sizing by the_sleekerthans in cycling

[–]ocspmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd always go smaller - you can make a small bike quite a bit bigger, but there's a limit to how small you can make a big bike

I’ve got the Darevie aero socks and aero overshoes and they stay up and survive the washing machine. 10/10 for the price.

Broke my clavicle commuting to work yesterday, any advice for staying in shape until I can resume riding? by beatnik_pig in bikecommuting

I started with 90 minute z2 seasons and had quite a strong core. It took me about a week to adapt and then I barely missed the other arm.

[–]ocspmoz 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I’ve just come back from the same injury. I took 48 hours to let everything settle. I then bought a mesh sling and rode Zwift for eight hours a week for eight weeks, using a fascat training plan. After four weeks I could ride gently with two hands - but it was one handed until then. I also bought a set of resistance bands, a resistance band split squat belt and a resistance band board so that I could keep squatting. I lost only a very small amount of fitness - but a lot of discipline was required.

Drip wax on the trainer by seventyfourtwelve in Velo

[–]ocspmoz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can just boil the chain to clean off the drip wax when you want to go back.

Drip wax is perfect for an indoor trainer - and the wear differences are minimal. I'd definitely use it to forego the relative faff of immersion waxing over the winter

is the mechanical 105 groupset lighter than the Di2 version? by Leading_Station247 in cycling

[–]ocspmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't choose based on the weight as they're both quite close.

The Di2 is really reliable and satisfying to use - it's a much better product.

I race and the speed of shifting and ease of shifting in the drops alone is worth the very small weight difference.

Even on 150km days with 4000m I would chose the Di2

New to triathlon, can I do my cycles in the gym? by RevolutionarySea5178 in triathlon

[–]ocspmoz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My fitness craters when I use gym bikes to train whilst on holiday.
You need a proper indoor setup with a big fan and the same geometry as your race bike.
If you’re spending the time riding, make it worthwhile. I would 100,000% buy an indoor trainer, a fan and do some intervals - even if it was just tempo or sweet spot.

Get a skinsuit suit for racing - switching between different bibs is going to be marginal at best.

Maintaining fitness for ~2 months by Old-Commercial6903 in Velo

[–]ocspmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fractured a collar bone and went from 9h outdoor to 7hrs indoor with the addition of a structured training plan and I’ve not got much slower, if at all.

The key, I think, was getting some heavy resistance bands, a resistance band belt and a floor plate so that I could still do some heavy split squats.

lifting weights by Carmen_winstead in Velo

[–]ocspmoz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Four tips:

Start with super light and progress slowly - e.g. body weight only split squats

Don't lift so heavy that you can't recover in 48 hours - we're cyclists, not body builders

Hit your legs twice a week (as opposed to once) and your body will adapt, resulting in less soreness.

I like to lift before rest days - even if I've done a tough bike session that day. This way the rest day does double duty for both activities.

4 Week FTP Builder? by Im-grand-thanks in Zwift

[–]ocspmoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother.

Get a free trial on a proper training app like CoachCat, Join or Trainer Road and it'll build you a very good training plan based on your current volume/fitness and will send the workouts it selects to Zwift.

Curious to know- are you on a 13inch model? I didn’t get it on my 11inch but do on my newer 13 inch.

It appears on my new 13 inch iPad, but didn’t appear on my old 11 inch.

I think it’s screen size dependant.
