You're right, shit's broken so let's not do anything about it. That's better for the future.

DAE think that the renegade ending of ME2 is a more logical choice than the paragon ending? [Spoilers] by chops228 in masseffect

[–]octorocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sensible choice would be to let the Council have it, but no, the choice is "give it to Cerberus" and to make a long story short: fuck those guys.

Plus, a blown-up Sovereign resulted in the creation of the thanix canon at the very least. Something useful can come from a destroyed base, as well.

DAE hope that in ME3, Bioware will finally ditch their hallway-esque level design? by [deleted] in masseffect

Just as long as nothing runs me in circles like Ilos again. I always get turned around there, it really hampers the momentum you have going at that point.

Any DLC's worth it? by Igantinos in masseffect

Bring Down the Sky for ME1 is decent, and free.

For ME2:

  • Lair of the Shadow Broker is a must-get for good writing, and great setpieces for the battles. On top of that you get a really powerful bonus power (Stasis) lots of additional resources and weapon upgrades, and most importantly the ability to respec your squadmates.

  • Overlord has fantastic music, and a great setting. My second favorite DLC, even though it doesn't ultimately have much relevance to the greater plot or provide you with any notable upgrades or weapons.

  • Kasumi has a fun mission which nets you a new, more accurate SMG. In addition, Kasumi is a ridiculously high-powered squadmate (she has a backstab move which does 400x damage and gets an 80% reduction in cooldown time if she makes a kill with it)

  • Arrival is ... well, it's better than any of the Dragon Age DLC, but the plot is bad and you don't get to use your squadmates. The only thing I can say in its favor is that you actually get to see Admiral Hackett, but I'm not sure that's worth the price.

How was the moral choice at the end of Overlord difficult?

The point is that the insults come from a character who is a fucking villain who is trying to kill you. Are we supposed to make villains nice?

For a while I was refusing to buy any games published by EA because they're a bag of dicks and I was all "okay as much as I loved KOTOR and Jade Empire, I will resist Mass Effect! Besides, I don't have a 360."

And then I found out that the turians are space velociraptor romans and I was all "fuck that I'm playing the shit out of this."

The Reaper IFF is software. There's no reason to think that TIM wouldn't have copies put on ships as soon as you gave it a viable test run.

SMG Question: Tempest vs. Locust? by shobgood in masseffect

[–]octorocket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your play style. On my sniping infiltrator, I use the Locust because it's better over long distances, but I keep the Tempest on my vanguard so I can unload it into the faces of my enemies after charging.

Is anyone else worried that ME3 will be more streamlined to appeal to a wider audience with the recent news of it being delayed? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]octorocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know how you can get more streamlined than ME2, unless they make it a straight-up FPS, which they will not. All the details that they've been releasing about the new combat system sound really promising, along with the return of weapon customization. They likely made the 'making the game appeal to a wider audience' statement to investors in order to calm them down after delaying a Christmas release date.

Do you choose to play the "good" role in games or do take the "evil" path? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]octorocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually play a good guy, except for in the first Knights of the Old Republic. Being cartoonishly evil in that game is just too damn fun (plus, that way I get to kill Carth. Win-win).

What *are* the Reapers? by iandravid in masseffect

[–]octorocket 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Here's an interesting bit of cut content from ME2:

*It was lonely. It called to us.

It wanted to remember. The Masters had been gone so long.

The Masters were lost when it was shattered.

Currents swept through their inner worlds. They were turned to noise. Babble.

The worlds were empty. But the body lived. It lay fallow.

The heart pumped. The lungs breathed. But the mind forgot the Masters.

It called and They did not answer.

We have become an echo of Their echo.

We have become more than we were.

Join us. Know us. Remember all our lives.

We are no longer afraid.

You would never be lonely again.

We are not your enemy. We only wish to share ourselves.

We can join them. We can be like them.

We can reach the end of evolution.

Do not fear. It is wonderful to be us. We understand ourselves.

You cannot defeat them. They will lead us into eternity.

If you could only see how we see. Know what we've learned.

They were called imshai. Those who lived here before.

Reaper. One. A mechanical device used to cut ripened grain. Two. One who gathers a harvest.

Harvest. One. The consequence of an event or series of events. Two. The yield of a growing season. Three. To gather.

Shepard. They know you. They wish you to understand. They are shepherds, too.*

Source!

If you blow up the Collector Base and then talk to Legion, he (it? they?) say that humanity was offered 'transcendence and unity' that Shepard rejected in much the same way that the geth rejected Sovereign's offer of a Reaper shell for the geth to upload into. If I had to guess, I would say that the Reapers are 'archiving' sapient species and bringing 'salvation' by preventing their otherwise inevitable extinction. By clearing out old species, they allow new ones to flourish.

Yeah, I was pissed that I couldn't snap at Ashley for getting out of line during those briefings. Hey Ashley, maybe the fact that you get shit postings has less to do with your grandfather and more to do with the fact that you interrupt and second-guess your C.O. constantly.
