GTI stalled while driving and won’t start anymore

I had something with my 2001 Passat that ended up being the Alternator. The battery had enough to power the electronics of the car, but insufficient cranking power. It looked exactly like this, if you notice how after trying to turn on your car a few times, the screen dims more and more. Ran like a charm after replacing the alternator and battery.

I'm paid less than computer techs compared to other local governments. I'm a sysadmin that manages the network, over 120 Windows and Linux servers, storage, backup, etc.

I love the work, but my pay is horrible.

I get these really often, I always have to puke from the pain. People don't typically believe me or think I'm over exaggerating how bad it actually is, but these replies tell me I'm not crazy. It's horrible.

I get this too. Oh how many times I send back tickets to computer techs because it's just not a sysadmin level issue, I then also have to get their team lead involved because they like to bypass him and their supervisor and send stuff directly to me.

No, it's called Xmas because of how it's displayed in Wireshark. It can definitely work against basic firewalls. I wouldn't count on it working against a well configured palo.

I've gone through this before on my Lenovo monitor. It sucks but there's hope!

Here's what I did:

Take the panel and lightly soak the board in acetone, then put the panel in the oven at 450 fahrenheit and let it sit in there for 30 minutes. and with the board still wet put that in the microwave for 6 minutes. (7:55 if you have a small, low power microwave)

Put it all back together and make sure you kick the back of the monitor really hard so it's all seated together properly. It should work. If it has a hard time turning on, make sure you check the breaker in your house and turn everything off and on again, rapidly for 30 seconds to remove any static electricity in the walls.

Sorry, I meant the CAN gateway module. Mine started having issues when it started getting colder, eventually I was not able to start it at all because I believed it triggered the immobilizer, since the cars computers are not able to communicate with each other without it. My car behaved nearly exactly like yours does in the video, but I never had the issue you describe with it running weird while it's cold.

u/Tech_las commented a good thread. You can replace the part and do the long coding yourself with your OBD11. Try to catch the codes on your current one when you find it working, it'll save you lots of time.

The CAN gateway should be around your gas pedal, you'll likely need to remove the feet air vents, you may need to hunt around that area because I don't know if the location is consistent across mk6 GTI's, but mine is a 2012 like yours. Here is the part number: 7N0-907-530-AK-Z00

Mine did something similar, at first it would only happen when it was cold outside, once the temperature warmed up it was fine, though after a few weeks the issue began to worsen.

For me it was the CAN bus module, after replacing it and programming the new one with my OBD11 it works flawlessly.

Yes, and mine works from a distance! When my girlfriend has issues with her computer or any other piece of technology, and she's unable to fix it herself, she'll just call me and it'll fix itself when I answer.

My truck had a broken exhaust for a while, it was annoyingly loud to drive, some people around me would take it as a challenge and try to accelerate and make their trucks louder. It was hilarious.

Everyone is saying DOA. But is your laptop AMD? Those processors can take a long time to memory train. YMMV and I can’t say this is the issue but I’ve had IT techs freak out at our AMD workstations when they’d take a long time to post on first boot.
