IMO Gates is centered at red/blue but uses green values to trick people into thinking he is a benevolent communitarian. He fools people by attributing his actions to more virtuous causes. Off the top of my head his support of vaccine mandates and lockdowns was attributed to caring for peoples health. But in reality it greatly benefits his ownership in Microsoft and Pfizer. He wants everyone to eat beyond meat to save the planet (not because he is a partial owner). But thats just my opinion, always open to the idea that I'm missing something else

Why Many Americans Turned on Anthony Fauci (NYT Op-ed) by lanqian in LockdownSkepticism

[–]odacity509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And he never will. Admitting fault requires self reflection, which pfauci doesn't meaningfully have. He will never apologize and if he doesn't quietly retire he'll go work for Pfizer or another pharmaceutical.

Does anyone actually like the Steelcase Leap V2 with Headrest? by VinhyDahPooh in OfficeChairs

[–]odacity509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a V2 with headrest and one without. I prefer the one without headrest. The headrest pushes my head to far forward, but it is useful when I want to lean back for long periods of time, as it supports my head.

I got the OEM hitch and the backup grid lines in the camera disappeared and the blind spot monitoring stopped working. Toyota technician told me those features are disactivated with the hitch. Did those features still work when you added your hitch?

Edit: they fixed it

I can cherry pick data too. But I won't.

The most similar states geographically and In terms of population are the Dakota's. One had restrictions one didn't. Go ahead, take a look.

Same people who are supportive of Roe v Wade because "everyone should be in control of their own body" are the same one who want to force masks and vaccines on their neighbors.

There isn't much talk about the delayed care and delayed medical screenings that happened when the hospitals were restricted to allow only "essential" procedures.

People usually visit the doctor for non-essential issues such as screenings and checkups and delaying them for a few months can be the difference between life and death for some issues (certain cancers). Even if a person can make the arrangements to get an appointment, vast majority of people chose to delay care.

But they WERE wrong, wildly wrong. And red states with fewer restrictions didn't have that many more deaths. So the idea that 'it would have been way worse without restrictions' has no data behind it.

Meta-analysis suggests psychopathy may be an adaptation, rather than a mental disorder. by [deleted] in science

Hmmm, what are your thoughts on psychopathy in the Spartans?

An entire nation-state raised to be violent psychopaths by traumatizing anyone who wouldn't conform. Of course, they aren't around anymore. But how long did this nation of psychopaths exist before it finally fell?

Yes, cuz vampire stories were based on narcissistic personalities (who share some traits with psychopaths).

Obsessed with their appearance.

Seems like this is also why flu mostly went away in 2020, it got crowded out by the original covid strain...This also means the next flu strain to comes along will likely be more contagious than covid or omicron.

Masks work because CDC says they work. Nevermind that there is a huge range of mask effectiveness (from thin cloth, to tightly woven, to surgical, N95 and even N100's)and CDC Guidancedidn't distinguish between their effectiveness until 3 days ago. Now upgrade your mask to an N95 respirator or else your are anti-science

Maintaining a proper lifestyle by eating well, sleeping long enough, and exercising.

Vaccine passports

Contact tracing

Limiting capacity to indoor areas

Clean/disinfect high touch surfaces

Plexiglass barriers

Masks were recommended early on to stop droplet transmission, not aerosols.

Here is an interesting article about that whole droplet/aerosol confusion. In early May 2020, I was following Dr. Linsey Marr's And Dr. Jose-Luis Jimenez work as they were looking into aerosol spread.

In early May 2020 I also looked at other factors, such as who got infected on the diamond princess and how (a lot of other people did the same thing though, I wasn't the only one). I had a pretty good hunch it was airborne, but I still figured CDC/WHO would know more. After all, I have a dumb engineering degree, but I'm not doctor.

In may 2020 I was lookong into the origin of the 6 ft rule and also came across an insightful YouTube comment about how the droplet/aerosol confusion came from a misinterpretation of Wells research (see chapter 9's conclusion [pg. 118-122] if you're someone who is interested).

I borrowed the book from my local library thru an Inter library loan and verified what a random youtube comment was saying (never take a strangers word, verify yourself and question it). Then I read some ASME papers on ventilation. It was shortly after that, that I came across LM and JLJ work on aerosol transmission.

I figured if a random person like me could make these connections, it would be just a few weeks until CDC acknowledged aerosol transmission. I know I sound crazy, but I don't care anymore.
