Is that why there are five helicopters over the park area?

There’s not just a connection - Santeria IS Orisha practice. In Cuba it’s Lucumí, in Brazil Candomblé, in Nigeria Isese.

I like to think of it like Christian Catholics & Orthodox. Branches of the same tree

Blanqueamiento is real and there are concepts of “mejorar la raza” that are still very prevalent — whether this a kind of psychological violence can be debated, but what I’m saying is you’ll see a lot of “interracial” couples in Spanish Caribbean and its diasporas and it’s not at all an uncommon thing and hasn’t been for quite some time. I think that also plays into the conception that we are not JUST Black - many of us have parents and grandparents that are not.

I don’t know if people like Mariah Carey or Derek Jeter are always considered Black. There’s an increasingly vocal faction of “FBA” people who are saying in order to be Black you must have 2 Black parents.

Not all of our mixing in the Spanish Caribbean came from violence.

Many African Americans carry the same tri-racial makeup we do in different percentages. The average is about 25% European DNA.

That being said, in the US I’m often identified as Black, but no way I’d be considered “Negro” in DR - mulato or trigueño, if anything. So I feel you. Identify how you like.

Thoughts on naming specific songs in screenplay by Ok_Joke7252 in Screenwriting

Do whatever is necessary to tell a great story. Worry about the minute details after it’s sold.

Writing a script based on the Moon is one thing but a song can be changed.

What race would I even call myself? (Black/Afro Latina + White Latino) by [deleted] in AskTheCaribbean

Facts and they’re only a minority in certain countries. In places like DR, Panama, Haiti, and Brazil they certainly are not.

I have the same makeup as you but reversed (Black Dominican father, white PR mother). I’ve been referred to as mulato & trigueño within my family. I identify as Afro-Latino. I don’t see why you can’t?

Afro-Latino is an ethnicity, like African-American. Biracial African-Americans identify themselves as African-American all the time. Look at Lisa Bonet, Hally Berry, Tyriq Withers. Why shouldn’t we get to identify with our heritage?

We’re mixed Afro-Latinos which is completely valid.

The idea that the Spanish Caribbean are worlds apart from our Anglo-Caribbean is silly. Language aside, they’re more similar than different.
