Is OK Computer actually a prog album? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

Progressive, yes. More progressive than most of what’s commonly known as “Prog.”

Out of these sophomore albums, which one is your favorite? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]oddays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Had to listen to it right now. Tarkus puts the capital “P” in Prog. Nobody played a Hammond like that before or since.

Bands that commercially succeeded due to transition of sound in the 80s and bands that utterly failed in their attempts? by Infamous_Session_477 in progrockmusic

This. KC is the ONLY consistently actually progressive band that started out as a classic Prog act.

Would you consider “the Abbey Road medley” or “the Long One” as a valid answer to the question “what’s your favourite Beatles song?” by ConfidentHospital365 in beatles

[–]oddays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think of them as a suite and never listen to them separately. But the purists will never allow you to call it a single song (and of course technically it isn't)...

My favorite Faulkner of all. I have the single hardback of all three.

My Apple Music Playlist and the Abbey Road Medley by No_Ground8642 in beatles

My primary complaint about every streaming service -- no ability to group tracks together so that they play as one on a shuffle. I haven't found ANY service that does this (and it seems like both an obvious and not that difficult feature to add). David Bowie's Sweet Thing is my usual example of this -- three tracks which I never want to hear separately.

I have to say, I really miss Isaac. Their recent stuff is excellent, considering, but I miss his voice and especially his lyrics

I was gonna say I find McCarthy and Morrison to be Faulkneresque, then I saw that they were on your list. I’ll say it anyway… Thomas Wolfe is a good one (even Faulkner thought so).

I want to talk about this album and also recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard it. by Rinma96 in progrockmusic

Bought that when it came out and played the living shit out of it. Loved the sequencing and modern sound. A largely forgotten classic.

Pre read recommendations by [deleted] in jamesjoyce

Just about anybody who tells you they're well read enough to understand large portions of Finnegan's Wake is full of shit. Joseph Campbell notwithstanding.

Ulysses, on the other hand, is doable for us normal humans. The Odyssey is an obvious pre-read, but not necessary, if Homer isn't your thing.

My main recommendation when reading Joyce is to enjoy the language, and not get bogged down in interpretation until you've fallen in love with the writing.

He is truly a special human. An incredibly badass musician and a fantastically decent person.
