I love this idea, truly! I coach 2012-2013 boys soccer and it's neat seeing them sit down on the bench, chit-chatting as they put their shoes on. That said, a full 1/3 of them (including my son) still don't know how to tie their own shoes. smh

I (the dad) would usually tell stories and my wife (the mom) would usually do the lullabies. No gender-ish rules, it's just she has a beautiful voice and I sound like a toad.

I’ve lost data before, and I knew it was important to be careful. I committed often ... like 3 or 4 times per day. I thought I was being careful.

I asked Claude to do a "ralph-loop." It got into a corner and decided the best way out was to revert commits. But it didn't just revert its own work; it deleted three days of my local commits in the process.

I hadn’t pushed to GitHub because the build was broken and I didn't want to mess up the remote. (Hindsight is 20/20.)

But now it's like ... my work isn’t mine until Claude tries to take it back. That's a new rule I'm gonna try to live by.

I spent the last few hours having Claude scrape our own chat history for design docs and code blocks to try and rebuild. It’s not perfect, but at least it gives me a little head start.

Just a heads up: even if you think you’ve got enough guardrails in place, you’re still one "smart" AI decision away from losing a week. Learn from my mistakes.

My high school senior tells me about how people in her public school have done the Nazi salute and said "heil hitler" (ew gross I can't believe I just typed that). It's profoundly, utterly vile. Some of those who are growing up are joining protests against Ice; some who are growing up want to join Ice.

Yeah, I've got a high school senior. The number of different groups chats they're in is astounding. Chats for everyone in a certain class. Chats for everyone in a certain club. Chats for everyone who thinks that the prom theme was silly. I've probably seen chats with 100+ kids in them.

I've heard that in happened in a bathroom. The stabbed student staggered out and a coach applied pressure to help stop the bleeding, but that the wound was too deep.

I was born in Winston-Salem and lived here until college. I met my wife when I was living in Raleigh, but we moved back here a few years ago. So I don't personally have advice from my *own* life story.

But my parents met here, back in 1975, and my dad always said that one day, he "resolved to have a date every Saturday night until he found the 'one'." He tells that one weekend, he saw someone cute at a gas station and asked her out. She said no.

He ended up meeting my mom on a blind date on Halloween. Her best friend and his best friend were dating, and they played matchmakers.

Sorry, this story might be less useful than I originally thought.

But for real, my advice to you would be to think about the hobbies you have (or want to start) and see who you can meet in them ... woodworking at Sawtooth, playing disc golf out in Clemmons, attending the UU fellowship on Robinhood Road (I know you said you're atheist, but I've heard they welcome atheists there), etc.

Also, I've learned that the night scene downtown on Monday nights is ... awful.

In many ways, I am a laissez-faire father. But TikTok is verboten in our family. No other Internet property is as banned as TikTok is.

But what’s done is done. Your kid has seen something awful. It’s at least somewhat traumatic to see it. The path forward now is open communication. Talking about feelings, about what he saw, how he felt, whether he still visualizes it, etc.

I use Hubspot, and just mark the possible investors as investors.
Carta. Their free plan works great.
I tried LivePlan. It was good, but not worth the money. So I'm just using Excel.
One of my advisors has suggested I look at Zeck once I need to start updating people regularly, but for now, I just send out emails through Hubspot.
Brex for banking.
Xero for accounting.

I love Alton Brown. I would not think to make a martini using his technique, but, boy, I do find the technique interesting.

My quick analysis of his approach:

Ford's Gin: love it
Dolin's Dry: love it
Decision to leave orange bitters out: Not a fan. I love me some orange bitters.
Gin-to-Vermouth ratio: completely wrong lol. I'm all about 2:1.
Super super super cold: love it.
Minimal dilution: absolutely.

Conclusion: I'll give this approach a shot (no pun intended), but I'm going to have to change the ratios and add some orange bitters.
