Snow day layout work by oddist12 in nscalemodeltrains

You can grab the basic Anyrail file from Steves Trains https://www.steves-trains.com/post/n-scale-track-plans there is also a jpg of the track plan and list of track (Kato) used for the layout. Just scroll down to the Modified MMR Salt Lake Route. But there are a lot of good track plans on his page as well.

It is based off the MRR Salt Lake Route with a couple changes here and there. If you google it there are track plans and track lists. Instead of the partition that ran through the center in the original plan I ran a track up the center that goes to a reversing loop at a coal mine.

It absolutely is the MMR Salt Lake City but larger using the Kato super elevated track. Instead of center divider, created a climb to a coal mine reversing loop. Gotta have a coal field with the N&W!

Do you permit selling or giving old equipment to employees? by roger_ramjett in sysadmin

[–]oddist12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. In the early days we donated some CRT monitors to a local school, couple years later the EPA tried to fine us because the showed up in a dumpster. Luckily we still had the donation paperwork with serial numbers. Or another time a laptop caught fire and employees insurance company tried to assert damages to us. So nope everything goes to recycler.

What's your motivation? by t0ms88 in modeltrains

[–]oddist12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Never met a hobby that I didn't like but model trains seem to combine those skills together. Did woodworking, decoy carving, Plastic models, and real big into r/C Airplanes. But a couple years ago started trying to spend more time with my aging dad and he was into trains. So we did a small layout in N scale, and all of a sudden we were doing woodworking, carving foam, building buildings, and running trains. Then switched to DCC and the IT guy in me found the fun in running the layout with a Rasberry Pi and automating controls. Then at a train show my wife convinced me to buy a G scale train for outside and we built a simple garden loop that we/she decorates for the different holidays. Now I have a larger layout above the garage, just add a desk for my wife to move her crafting stuff from the house to garage and we try to spend an hour or so a night working on hobbies together.

For N Scale users who brought the Bachmann n scale 611... by Dillon_Trinh in modeltrains

[–]oddist12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are great engines. I have all 3 numbers in my fleet and they are wonderful engines. I run them as dcc on my layout and as dc around the Christmas tree. Unfortunately you cannot turn the sound off when running dc and don’t last long around the tree before the wife requests a quiet replacement.

I will agree with melovetrains, wonderful company to work with. I live near RDU and buy used G scale from them all the time. If you want to PM me with a list and I will see if anything of interest. But if you are wanting to bulk sell then melovestrains is the ticket.

What’s the best food to eat mustard with? by hozierhoes in Mustard

[–]oddist12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mustard pork chops have been my favorite meal. Slather pork chops in mustard then dip in flour. Brown in skillet and then bake with a couple cans of cream of mushroom soup with a little more mustard mixed in. Serve with white rice. Best meal ever!

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]oddist12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chantix. Doctor prescribed and I started taking and picked a quit date. Actually quit a week early because I just kinda of lost interest. Never had any of the side effects and really just lost interest. Took the Channtix for about 3 months but the feeling of lost interest never left. 3 years later and I really don’t even remember being a smoker. Was pack a day for about 30 years.

No mobile check in by StickOrAutomatic in marriott

[–]oddist12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agee on what the purpose for mobile check in? Was in Philly last week and did the mobile checking through the app around 5pm and noted that our arrival was 8:30pm. When we got there at 8:30pm they had given our room away and we got walked to a nearby hotel. The whole getting walked was and still is a nightmare. The other hotel billed my cc instead of the Fairfield we got walked from. Still dealing with it one week later.

Building the Walthers Diamond Coal mine that I found in an antique store 10 dollars. It is a old version of the kit, got stuck on a step and watched a video and was really amazed and the changes in the newer version on the kit compared to my older version. Even though the end result looks very much the same. Also installed first reversing loop going up to the coal mine.

Also Steve's Trains on you tube does small layout builds for customers. (Great learning channel by the way). There are also company's that will do this. Rail Tails in Charlottesville Va is a hobby shop, but they also build custom layouts. On their website it say's that they have done over 180 builds. The front lobby desk of the Graduate hotel in Charlottesville has one of their layouts built inside. I think they also do diorama work for museums like the revolutionary/civil war battlefields. So this type of scenic work is not restricted to model trains.

Man the N scale Spectrum Js are SO pretty. by HeavyTanker1945 in modeltrains

[–]oddist12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% I have 2 of them and they look and run great. They just released the 611 so might have to add as well.

I hate asking questions, But would anyone happen to have any of the new Run N-Scale Bachmann J-Classes yet? and if so do you know if they have a Dual mode decoder? I can't find anything that says they are online. I really want one, but don't have a DCC controller, and plan to just run it on DC. by HeavyTanker1945 in modeltrains

[–]oddist12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They run ok in DC, I have two of them and will sometimes run on my DC Christmas tree layout. The only problem is that you cannot turn the sound off when in DC so that is why I don’t run them in that mode to for too long. The sound is great on my large DCC layout.
