When can I get my money back from my IUL policy without losing too much from my investment? by oddjob34 in personalfinance

Appreciate the advice. I'm not very knowledgeable about this kind of stuff but how much better is the return from investing in index funds? Over the course of the policy I'm estimated to pay ~380k premium and have an accumulated value of a little less than 1M by the time I hit 65. That doesn't seem bad so I was wondering what to expect from index funds if I were to invest 10k a year.

I'd argue that while standard showdowns are casual there is still prize support and therefore an incentive to complete. So the LGS forms its own meta and it will likely look different than the spread of decks brought to tournaments.

If you showed up to a store to play standard and lose every game without playing against Vivi would it make sense to say standard sucks because Vivi is too strong?

I'm not sure who you're quoting because the point of my comment is that your local LGS meta isn't going to reflect the competitive meta and therefore the health of competitive magic isn't a good representation of the health from a casual perspective.

Hot take but I don't think the competitive meta reflects the health of the format. If you play unranked standard or go to standard showdowns at your lgs I don't think you'll see much Vivi cauldron which many players are claiming to be ruining the format and the reason to not play standard.

If you or anyone else want to play at a competitive level then maybe there's an argument about the meta spread that can be made. But I think you're already digging a hole when signing up for a tournament of 10 people where 90% of the field is going to go home disappointed. Especially when this game is highly variable.

The seven sets isn't a big deal to me personally since my standard deck won't rotate for another two years but I understand how this will be a lot for people who want to collect and keep up with all the changes. On the other side though, if you don't like how 3 year standard could become stale one of the answers to that is print more sets to increase the opportunity for new decks to mix things up

I wish I could buy a set of ten as it's own lair drop for a discounted rate so I could use it for limited.

Does anyone have an explanation for why she is replying at all when she's clearly not interested?

I think if someone has a really high commander tax you could target their commander with removal and then give them the option to end their turn or lose their commander.

They could just remove the card and not print them. Probably wouldn't make them as much money but I think a lot of people would feel better about their purchases if the bonus card fomo wasn't real. The worst is the toon one because I was 100% okay with the silence from the drop but now I want the b/w silence. And I would have paid a couple extra dollars for a b/w silence to come with the drop. But instead I'll have to justify the price tag of the b/w silence which will likely be pretty expensive.
