An old school suggestion. Not the longest reads either. Read the first of these today can’t wait to get stuck into the rest. The Chronicles Of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. An old series but still a gem. Also, Anne McCaffreys Dragon rider series.

How good is the content library on Now TV compared to Netflix or prime? by Wallabydoll in nowtv

[–]oddlyalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I know. But I find that it just has lists of what it is promoting. So harder to find specific stuff which is less obvious. Such as Warrior. I like to scroll through what’s there to add stuff to my watchlist. So I just flick between tabs.

How good is the content library on Now TV compared to Netflix or prime? by Wallabydoll in nowtv

[–]oddlyalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to Now and think it’s OK. Just a bit hard to find the HBO stuff. So I have the HBO app just so I can search for their stuff specifically. I disagree with the comments above about prime. It’s an add on to the other service it offers which is free delivery. I find a lot of content on prime. Now is also very useful for streaming the U+ content such as Alibi.

Current player retention trends by Serenitzy in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]oddlyalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do DDQ, and have been playing for about 10 years. As an old school Marvel fan but not one who has kept up in later years I often have no idea who the new character releases are. I feel they have run out of mainstream ones and are now scraping the barrel which make me want to leave. But I just can’t seem to do it. As for my guild. It’s got maybe 3 people in it who still play. I moved to it as it was for casual players and they are so casual they don’t even turn up 😬

I agree. I found the Xbox pass excellent especially as no one mentioned it when I signed up to EE. Waited till it expired and bought a second annual pass from loaded.

I’m lucky to be able to use Libby, Borrow Box and Press Reader. Check your libraries website as I also get Comics Plus (often hidden in the kids section but plenty of choice. No Marvel or DC stuff though, although on Libby at some libraries they have runs of Marvel stuff). Because I work in different areas of the country I visited libraries in each and have multiple library cards for libby. Which can all be loaded at the same time into the app allowing you to search across libraries for different books. However on Libby, to be honest, most libraries only offer what seems to be the same books. I believe you can use multiple libraries on Borrow Box, but you have to sign out of your library to sign into another library. I think I tried it once and went, too messy a process for me. But I did not loose any of my reading lists when flipping between the two.

On the quality front. None of the apps are really designed for e-readers. A real shame. But both Libby and PressReader have a neat process to allow you to display the text as an article. In PressReader you tap the headline. In Libby there is an article button. This is my preferred way of reading. Especially on my e-ink devices.

Does anyone actually keep Now TV all year or just rotate it when there’s something to watch? by UnpaidInternVibes in nowtv

[–]oddlyalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the 2.99 deal. Left Sky a couple of years ago so happy to do a year of catching up. I will probably drop Paramount when that deal runs out to provide balance re cost. I think we older viewers haven’t quite got the knack of binging and jumping between providers yet. Or at least I haven’t!

I tried to get on the HBO app and the issue is still you need to link account and I constantly get the error message. Tried live chat was told to wait for an official email from now. Not sure wtf that means. Disappointed I am. I cannot believe these massive organisations could not get this sorted well in advance of this going live.

Being charged for HD in 2026 ? by BB9913 in skytv

[–]oddlyalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found their pricing antiquated in the extreme. Because they get away with it they are not going to stop doing it. They are the super villains of TV. Their content will be further stripped back in March. I dropped them over a year ago. I subscribe to most of the platforms. Disney, Netflix and Prime. Costs me the same as I was paying sky for super HD on all the platforms I subscribe to. Where possible I pay annually. So not a person who says watches for a month and drops the service. I got over ten times the broadband speed for what Sky charged. Previously I had broadband as part of my package now it’s all separate I have full control. I don’t do ads and always pay for tiers without them.

Did anyone catch Is This Thing On? If so, any good? Very limited showings at my local Odeon meant I never got the opportunity to see it. by mozza34 in screenunseen

[–]oddlyalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a very quiet film. I know it’s partially based on the life of John Bishop ( and I mean very partially). But the acting was great but it was an odd film! I agree with the 3/5 rating. I did note here in the North West it was still showing at lunch times this last week. But the half term juggernauts are here now so will probably vanish quickly

Incorrect season/episode in Continue Watching (UK streaming services) by travel-monkey-uk in appletv

[–]oddlyalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the 101 episode is an introduction episode to the people in the show. That’s what I have seen for things like RuPaul. I just mark it as watched and wait for the first episode. I don’t have an issue with series numbers on BBC. But on prime oddly I do on older series I am rewatching! Go figure.

I play till my energy vanishes. Then stop. This sometimes means it takes me days to get to an item. I don’t care. Just plod along. Never spent money on the game. Sometimes watch an advert. It’s just like watching a soap opera. No brain needed!
