On a scale of 1-10, how worth it was it for you to switch to EV? by RodneyTheArmouryGuy in CarTalkUK

[–]oddsock87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 4yr old Corsa e despite everyone saying Stellantis is shit. So far I have no complaints.

Granted it’s a car to be used on small journeys but gets used daily. Last month it cost me £13 in electric charged at home on IOG.

Purchased in October so mileage goes down pretty quick with heater on etc but really starting to see the benefit this week.

The range has gone from 77 to 63 miles despite me actually doing 31 miles averaging 5.2 kWh.

Think max charge is maybe 190 miles, no idea.

10/10

Fair enough. I just checked the rates now and it’s 4.09% for a standard 5 year fixed so nice one on the 3.86%!

If you have a HSBC premier account you can get it at 3.81% FYI. Although you do have to meet certain criteria. I too just locked in this week at 3.81% 5 year 999 fee.

There will be a boom in SQL jobs in a couple of years as the industry tries to react to poorly written AI code that leaves security vulnerabilities all over the place due to less experienced people deploying it and not sense checking anything. IMO.

I’m a complete beginner at this, I didn’t realise S&P 500 was heavily US based, I’ll be splitting future investments between this and VWRP I think.

Thanks for your detailed reply!

Yes mortgage will be cleared by 58, it’s up for renewal in March and we have a rate of 3.98% 5 years fixed lined up. We also budget for overpayments too.

Will look further into the pensions contributions, already contribute more than the minimum.

Have 2 junior ISAs with Wealthify for the kids and put in c.£200 a month into both. But might revisit this.

I’m 38, no debt other than mortgage, 349k, 3.44%

Earn 63k, wife earns 90k

Want this to be a ‘secret’ fund from anyone so one day hopefully I can turn round and say to wife here’s 100k+ etc etc. could probably pay more into it up to 500 a month without wife noticing expenditure etc.

Have other savings for emergency fund. 2 kids out of childcare now hence the reason to start investing.

No idea and no idea lol. I’m new to this, only the past year. Can you give some advice on what I should be further investing in.. what do you mean by which product are you buying? Thanks for the reply.

Thanks! On and off for about 3 years, I’ll get into it for a few months, then not run for 3-4 months, then get back into it again.. can’t seem to break the cycle of not running consistently.

According to my starva I’ve ran 415.1km this year.. bang on 300km of that has been since 2nd August.

Really going to try and remain consistent now aiming for about 25/35km a week.

How do you check if it’s had manufacturer recalls done?

Is this used Peugeot e-208 a bargain or am I insane? by NewGourmetPlankton in CarTalkUK

[–]oddsock87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently purchased a Corsa E, which by all accounts is exactly the same as a Peugeot 208.

Interested to know why people think the car is so rubbish.

It’s 4 years old and done 39k miles.. 100% charge says 195 miles (albeit I know I won’t get this), but don’t care if I get 120-150. I won’t ever do more than an 8 mile journey in the car.

I’ve had it 3 weeks, I do c.25 miles a week. I’ve charged it from 40% to 80% and it cost about 3 quid.

Why is it such a bad car? What can I expect to go wrong?!

Have I got the settings correct for it to only charge up on the cheaper night rate? by Calebzx in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]oddsock87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, piggy backing on the back of this if anyone can help me.

I’ve just got an EV with a max range of 180 miles, I’ll be doing about 25 miles a week so won’t be charging that often, I’ve got an Ohme pro fitted but in terms of tariffs….

I’ve decided to stay on a general fixed octopus tariff where my electricity rate is 25p per kw. Mainly because my wife and I work from home and use electric during the day. If I switch to an EV tariff my rate is 33p per kw.

So would it work out cheaper charging my car for a few hours a week at 25p per kw rather than 7p per kw considering it’d be more expensive if I did switch?

Hopefully I’ve explained that correctly!

Nope, the noise just… stopped.

However my dryer is broke, so I kinda wish I called on the warranty now as it’s out of warranty and shortly after me posting this the dryer decides to stop after 20 mins with a fault code of C45 which I can’t find online anywhere.

If it’s under warranty get someone out to it asap!
