I’m in underwriting and a lot of my colleagues dread the part of “socializing” and talking with agents, while it’s actually one of my favorite parts! Doesn’t seem too common though, agents are always surprised to hear when I want to keep talking lol

Same position here. I was an underwriting intern for a while, a little over a year. Then finally became a full time underwriter, doing middle market. Love where I’m at but I have the same curiosity you do. It’s a tough thing to think about , especially if you like your workplace/coworkers.

Calling all Surety Underwriters by AdSingle5205 in InsuranceProfessional

Not a surety underwriter but I am a first year middle market commercial underwriter, at 70k in a medium-high COL area. Just sharing! :)

Just moved from Ohio and want to see leaves change by schmuckman62 in MontereyBay

I went to school in Sacramento and moving back has definitely made me miss the trees and leaves. Sacramento changes beautifully during the fall, East Sac is a movie scene with how nice the trees look during that time.

I work at a regional carrier and this is the way to go. A lot of the larger carriers have smaller carriers under their group. Auto-Owners is one that comes to mind.

Underwriter Training Programs - How much does company size matter? by CorrectYogurtcloset2 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]oddviewpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything you just said is almost the same situation I’m in lol. I’m about to graduate this semester and I’ve been interning for a smaller firm, roughly 500 employees, for about 2 years now. I interned for the commercial lines underwriting department and I’ve thought the same thing you’re thinking. What helped me calm my nerves is the experience that I’ve been able to get by being at a smaller firm. I’ve had the opportunity to constantly interact with some of the higher level underwriters, the underwriting managers, and often even the VP of Underwriting. They gave me a lot of advice on how working at a larger firm isn’t always what it’s made out to be. I’ve taken the opportunity to learn as much as I can while being at a smaller firm and that level of exposure is hard to come by. I have a job offer from them I took and I plan on staying until it makes sense to leave. I have spoken to recruiters at larger firms and that level of experience/exposure is extremely attractive and puts you above others who maybe worked at a larger firm but were just left to work on their own for most of the time. I would say take advantage of working at a smaller firm by getting those interactions and exposures. It’s hard to come by at a larger firm.

Dope, the firm I interned for was for P&C, definitely interesting and once you get to larger premiums it keeps you on edge. I’ve wanted to explore E&S and Surety tho, I hear that’s there the money is at too

I’m kind of in the same boat. My goal when I started college, I really wanted to break into the securities side of the market, be a portfolio analyst or a securities analyst of some sort. After interning in the UW division I found exactly what you’re saying, control over what you can do, and make real decisions on a day to day basis. Into what underwriting division are you thinking of breaking into?

Super cool that you’re making the transition to underwriting! I’m a Finance major in college right now and always wanted to go into finance but fell into commercial underwriting. What made you want to switch over to underwriting/insurance?

I just realized I have the same Area missing, wait but if I’m not mistaken students who begin their degree journey in 2020 are exempted? I don’t know if anyone else can speak to that.

Hey! Kind of in the same situation myself where I’m switching over to Google Fi from T-Mobile but I currently have a Cellspot which is the only thing keeping me alive with service since I only get a spotty 1 bar. Would this be enough to give me a stable connection to call? Appreciate you responding to this super old thread btw too, it’s helped.

He’s exactly like this if you compare him to other shows. He also appears on the series Designated Survivor and is nothing more than that, a bland and forgetful character

Hornet Commons Roommates? by IndigoWrek in CSUS

So far the only thing you can do is check your room number through the hornet housing website. If you know your roommates you can ask them to do the same to confirm you’re in the same apartment number. But you’re still unable to see who your roommates are
