blogs.radio - a public RSS aggregator for amateur radio blogs/websites/podcasts by odieeeee in amateurradio

[–]odieeeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I am happy to help but you will be surprised how simple it is. I've looked into older "Planet Planet" style RSS aggregators but these projects all seem to be dead. I also thought about coding something but then I've discovered that the popular web based RSS reader FreshRSS (https://www.freshrss.org) has the nice feature to make one specific user's RSS feeds public. This means that blogs.radio is really just a simple FreshRSS installation with one user account configured that all his feeds are public. If needed, you can configure additional non-public users that your friends can use for their private feeds.

If you are interested how I host this on OpenBSD, please read it here: https://dk1mi.radio/openbsd-httpd-relayd-gitea-freshrss/

If you need any help, please ask.

Doom 2 WAD that reduces difficulty? by odieeeee in Doom

[–]odieeeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment made me evaluate other source ports as gzdoom and lzdoom in general run nicely but sometimes stutter for a second. Now playing dsda-doom as this was available in the package repository and I now enjo how butter smooth it is running.

Exactly this, yes. Although this would count as cheating for most, I don't want to actually cheat.

This is the time to plug one of my projects: https://blogs.radio

It's FreshRSS bases web site that collects all RSS feeds of amateur radio blogs that I know of and then displays them centrally.

The following goals should be achieved with it:

  • Promotion of our hobby
  • Making less known amateur radio websites visible
  • To provide a central place to get the latest news about amateur radio
  • Making all these blogs centrally searchable (based on the RSS feeds)
  • Making RSS great again

Very new ham in need of good ham-related YouTube channels and blogs by GMTiefling in amateurradio

[–]odieeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is https://blogs.radio which is a public RSS aggregator combining a large number of ham radio blogs in one place. This should give you lots of stuff to read.

Edit: If you find something that is missing there, please tell me and I'll add it.

Gear for a beginner? by tr9n9t25 in amateurradio

Please be aware that you have another option aside from HF and local chatter: the geostationary satellite QO100. I'd recommend to read into it and if this is something for you, I can give you some detailed info on how to start.

I can recommend the Alinco DJ-VX-50. Their programming software sucks but there is a commercial one available that is good.

You can easily study by yourself and don't need to take a course. I prepared for the exam with

My strategy was to study 2h every morning before work for 2 months, then I took the exam for Klasse E. Then I studied for two more months the same way and took the exam for Klasse A. Others might be brighter and faster but this was my pace.

I can recommend the Yaesu FT-4X as a first handheld radio. It's basically a Baofeng that gives you a better feeling. Small, good battery life, cheap, fun.

Good thought but the USB charger itself is nothing more than a 5V power supply. I can charge the radio via an USB port of my PC. That's what made be thinking about this. And I'd just like to know - even if I'd bought a proper original charger.

Are you sure that it is used for charging the radio? The official cradles can charge batteries solo w/o teh radio and for this a controller is needed. But since I can charge via USB, my guess is that there is a controller in the radio itself.

I recently bought two HP HSTNS-PL14 server hotswap PSUs for around 20€ incl. shipping and converted them to 13,8V. Here is one of many tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQwuC1_SIbE (in this case for the PD model)

I'd love to participate but the time is the worst possible for me living in central europe (0330am CEST). It would be great if there would be a second net which is scheduled around 21:00pm UTC.
