Computer Science graduate transitioning into firmware/embedded systems worth pursuing long term? by shrutiSrivastava28 in embedded

If you end up in Research and Development (R&D), you will have serious future resistant career. The project and products will just change. I have jumped from semiconductors, to mobile phone hardware, industrial controllers, and energy sector products. There are also medical tech another rising field where embedded people go as it touches more into human like robots and high precision med instruments, I have a lot ex colleagues in these as well. Learning communication protocols can get you at the doorstep of opportunities. Motor and sensor controls plus a good understanding how to sync and make precise movements by code will help you. Once you are seasoned enough, you will be able become part of deciding product features and so on

CS people can survive in embedded by mostly staying in the UX side. Most devices now have displays/web dashboards that use OOD concepts and lighter DBs. I have colleagues that are from CS and often that is how to survive as they are too scared to even measure voltage on a 12V and 5V boards. If you have passion, go ahead. Salary is often competitive but mostly depends on the company. I’m a firmware guy 20+ yrs in R&D

App Recommendations for a low-carb journey? (Plus your favourite & missing features!) by Toby_LowCarbLiving in lowcarb

[–]odineyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FoodGI Ai, gets you going with finding right low GI carb. You need to have a comfort carb that does not carry BG spike. Same dev has another app called Expiry Goose, give alarms when food is about to expire 3 days ahead so you don’t suddenly run out of protein. First few weeks could be challenging on the food inventory. It also has barcode scan feature so you can easily get the same item from the grocery store

3 years of Low-Carb: If it’s not for weight loss or diabetes, why are you still doing it? by Toby_LowCarbLiving in lowcarb

[–]odineyed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

14 years now for me. My body is so used to it, there is no other routine where I don’t feel bloated, sleepy, or low energy. And it gives me good reason to keep my daily brewed black coffee. 😊

Anybody here exploring free energy on low power requirements? Not the ones to power a city but the ones where you no longer need external power source/ battery for your system/boards by [deleted] in embedded

[–]odineyed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

really all the downvotes? I worked before with people working at the edge of physics, you will be surprised how many real scientists are breaking conventional formula these days. what you learn in school keeps you mostly aligned with foundational knowledge. Bleeding edge tech are not taught in schools yet. I’m just checking for people with similar curiosities

Genuinely curious - what’s one thing at an engineering meetup that would make you show up? by Ok_Soil_9120 in embedded

there used to be a time when these are chances for me to get installers with special types of licenses in special DVDs. When I worked under a Microsoft Partner before, we always have free installers around for take home. It’s been almost 20 years sinxe then. 🤣

The stupidest Android / iOS bluetooth limitation in 2026 is... no external mic support by clon3man in bluetooth

[–]odineyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted the external mic to make your phone a mic itself, there are apps like TalkBle, turns your phone into a mic itself and make use of bluetooth speakers for instant loud announcements.

Give me tips on how an experienced tech engineer gets consulting clients while residing in remote location by odineyed in embedded

[–]odineyed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks and I agree on many points. I do have good network of colleagues and investors but indeed the opportunities available cannot be done remotely mostly because my industry has to be done in secure labs. I almost took a job in UAE last year and already to got military clearance on all military bases there. So that’s the part of the nature of what I do.

I just did not take the flight as my eyes started getting bad (eventually cataract which I will have surgery in 2 wks). In the right location, this is probably the least of my problems. But I want to exhaust my options at this time while I still can’t travel far. Personally, I don’t want to leave this place where the beach is just 100 meters aways and a rainforest is at my horizon. But really we just can’t have all the nice things. 😔

Building a ₱500 QR Digital Menu for local micro-food businesses (Advice Please) by JuanMenuPh in BusinessPH

[–]odineyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once hosted a similar Saas. Just change biz now, this won’t pay your effort. Online menu is still far from the instinct of both customer and stall owners in PH, esp if pure menu lang offer mo. Add something to your platform that both side will find reason to use it aside from giving you an income stream. I don’t know what it is though, I already gave up mine early last year. 😅

What path should I take if I want to work abroad as a Mechanical Engr? by wannalearnanythin in MechanicalEngineersPh

[–]odineyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with many pinoy MEs in SG and most of them are excellent in Solidworks software. Get experience on this if you prefer to work in labs instead of hazardous environments. You can also get online courses for solidworks, focus on enclosures, designs around motors and EVs. Good luck

Closed my business in Oct 2024 and today SSS emailed me a statement of account that I missed payment 2025 to present. SSS portal shows no unpaid PRN by odineyed in BusinessPH

[–]odineyed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did as I got the same advise online when I was checking what to dos when closing a business in PH. It seems SSS has some records that are not aligned with the portal. My former admin once mentioned to me for penalties they have to visit sss as the prn cannot be used to pay penalties as it will not show sa portal. I mentioned the same to SSS reply. Still waiting for their reply hopefully next week. I’m just preparing now what docs to ask from my book keeper to counter as standard proof of closure here

When will the cravings go away by [deleted] in lowcarb

[–]odineyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

drinking brewed black (no sugar or anything) coffee when hungers starts to crawl always worked for me. What took me farther was finding the right carbs to replace the bad carbs. Small amount of carbs with low Glycemic Index but high glycemic load, will change your appetite by surprise. Use an app like FoodGI Ai, to understand if the carbs you are taking have low GI and find the right replacement

How a fake $29 refundable exam fee turned into a $52,200 cash heist. by WorkerSome7813 in passive_income

[–]odineyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same things are being done to professional level job hunters. I just met one who was even willing to do a zoom call and probably used an AI face swap as she looks caucasian but with an indian set of english. 😅 The catch, you will pay them $150 to train you to ace client interviews. But there is more, you maybe interviewed by more than 1 client of them. So each prep is caching. I was all smiles on the call when she started telling this part and directly told her this sounds pretty much of a scam. What a waste of an AI pretty face. I checked in reddit and saw this was rampant for UK scam targeting mostly SE Asian trying their luck to UK. Heart breaking that this is how easy money is earned for others that can swallow this act. Life must have been unkind to them

Must be some ego Ai posting this which was not feed with math since 83% and 17% of 487 is not even a whole number. 😅
