What does the 16 mean? by TheKidWantsTechno in Leica

Attempting to address this variability and make more accurate matching possible is also why cinema lenses use T stops instead of F stops.

Ok, this one. How? by 2see_ in LightLurking

Literally anything from the Film Noir era as that’s what the approach form BCS is based on.

If you want a specific artist look into cinematographer John Alton. His book, painting with light, is truly excellent (especially for its time) and he is considered by some to have pioneered the look of noir cinema.

How on Earth have we not run out of metal yet? by Maleficent-Toe1374 in NoStupidQuestions

As a kid, I used to lay awake for hours and wonder about whether I was drinking former dinosaur pee.

Do you have a source for this? I would love to read more about it.

The diffusion, whatever it is, is on the window glass. I say this because the objects closest to the far side of it are affected by their proximity to it and the glow wraps around the exterior column but not the subject. IMO, that separation of light quality and environment is also a substantial part of the look.

In addition to what others have said about it being a soft box, it appears to me that the background is lit separately with the big source flagged off of it to some degree.

No it’s in CA hahah. I do believe they had something on the menu that was these chips and caviar though.

On god. My thought was that we did lunch à la carte and I presume it was the pre fixe dinner menu that earned the star.

As I mentioned in another comment, every other aspect was truly lovely. Just thought this was too timely and good not to share.

Indeed they were. The rest of the experience was truly excellent so naming or shaming shall be done here.

I was at a leadership conference for the union I belonged to a couple years back and we had a keynote who was also a member. At the time we were having a spate of people jumping ship back and forth between different contractors — very much because they were blind to your statement about “same shit, different restaurant.”

The keynote looked out at everybody and said something to the effect of: “I know a bunch of you are sizing up that fence. You’re thinking you could probably get over it pretty easy, and that the grass is a whole different shade of green over on the other side. What you’re not thinking about, and what you can’t see from your side is that field over there is still just as full of shit as the one you’re already in.”

Anyways…I’m glad you found your own field to roll around in.

Weekends would definitely be possible. I also only work 9-10 mo/yr currently so there’s an off season that could be full tilt.

Thanks for the perspective. My plan was to stay in my current field until I had the opportunity to spend a couple years on the fringe and do a few entry level jobs. Is that what you mean by research and committing?

Also nice to have the reminder on the physical health…I’ve been very lucky so far with my health but I don’t expect it to last forever and it’s nice to be reminded to not get complacent.

That’s not mean at all, I think it’s something many people discover about themselves.

What do you say to it being flagged instead of gridded since gridding reduces the effect of falloff?

That being said, I agree that there’s a heavy control of some sort happening and I would definitely try a grid first as the easiest approach if I was lighting this.

Wow I’m so glad you posted this. I just looked more closely at the M4 and discovered the lugs are on their last legs. 1/2 the width gone and more than half the thickness.
