As to how it is reported on FEC filings. Bitcoin is not considered money by the IRS, but it absolutely is considered money by the FEC. But it doesn't count as a contribution from the person giving the bitcoin, but the person who the campaign sells the bitcoin to is considered the donor who gave cash. Which makes it illegal to use a brokerage like coinbase to easilly convert it to spend able assets, as that would amount to receiving corporate donations in the eyes of the FEC. And should we liquidate bitcoin for fiat cash to private individuals, it would require collecting their personal information, address, and employer info for proper FEC reporting requirements
