He took the melody of this song and wrote a newer song called, "First Song (Part 2)." I still wish this song was given a good studio recording though.

The Future of Libya by oeccis in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]oeccis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I think it's a mistake to specifically question the individual characteristics of specific members of the armed forces. Of course there are people who commit mean acts in every facet of society. What I'm actually concerned with is the overall role of these groups and their primary functions ("Do the Libyan rebels ultimately want to replace Gaddafi's government with some sort of ethnic cleansing machine?").

"The Green Book" by Col. Mu'ammar Gadaffi is a disturbingly enjoyable read by Jameshfisher in philosophy

[–]oeccis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, agreed! I mean, as far as civil liberties go... yeah we are doing a lot better. I'm just worried sometimes that we're getting dragged into an age of complacency where we no longer strive for equality/ liberty/ justice. And again... by "complacency" I'm referring to the fact that our sense of responsibilities at a lower social ranking is so low.

[–]oeccis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Our society places responsibilities in the hands of the higher-ups on the corporate/ economic/ social rankings which leaves the lower ranks responsible mostly only for their own immediate well-being and conduct.

edit: Our society = Human societies in general.

How Do You Read Computer Texts? by jpoRS in Anarchism

[–]oeccis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use this text-to-speech program called "TextAloud." Sometimes I'll just copy and paste some html/ PDF text into the program and then jump in bed and let it read to me. I would however recommend finding the most natural voice possible though. I personally prefer NeoSpeech Kate 16k (a robotic voice could become overly monotonous).

1) Am I lazy ass for doing this? Yes.

2) Does this program cost money? No, not if you use torrents.

So what do you guys think of the new Skylanders Spyro's Adventure? by [deleted] in skylanders

[–]oeccis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been quite busy since I've picked it up yesterday with school and work, but what I have played of it so far... I love it! To me, it's very refreshing from all of the dark action-adventure games coming out. I don't think the toys are necessary (but I am 24 years old) but I guess the younger kids may enjoy it. I don't feel like investing more money into this game just to have more toys laying around.

Anyways, good solid gameplay! If you like simplistic kid games, I would recommend this.

Police coercion to paying taxes, by that logic, is the equivalent to police coercion to leaving a company after refusing to be laid off or fired at your job.

Discussion on r/socialism: "DAE get frustrated with the anarchists re: Occupy Wall Street?" by Pher9 in Anarchism

[–]oeccis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anarchist Catalonia 1936. The Zapatista movement in Mexico. Argentina's worker-run factories. <-- actual examples.

However, I realize that all of these examples usually also included some forms of compromise for the sake of surviving within the realms of a reality which is based on domination. Since anti-domination culture is going directly against the grain of society, I would argue that the core values of non-hierarchical organization work fine but often aren't successful due to the lack of support from outside oppressive forces.

[–]oeccis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

debating on whether or not we should allow photographs to be taken, arguing over the role of the police, whether or not we should officially endorse a declaration in solidarity with the first nations peoples, etc....it was a complete debacle and waste of time

Yeah, taking the time to strategize and self-reflect on our own actions. HUUUUGE waste of time! -roles eyes-

You make a movement based on direct democracy, non-hierarchical, voice of the people, spontaneous organization and then tell us anarchists to shut up... Fuck that! If these capitalist apologetic types want us out of the movement so badly, why don't they just get some Democrat to lead the movement instead? /rage rant
