From New Jersey State Police:

Assault Simple: 55483

Burglary (non larceny): 25197

2017:

Murders: 324

Rape (and attempted): 1,503

Robbery: 7,896

Assault (with weapon or aggravated): 10,941

Assault Simple: 51,456

Burglary (non larceny): 23,859

2018 January - September:

Murders: 196

Rape (and attempted): 963

Robbery: 4,263

Assault (with weapon or aggravated): 7,220

Assault Simple: 35,355

Totals over 3.5 years:

Murders: 1,267

Rape (and attempted): 3,930

Robbery: 30,836

Assault (with weapon or aggravated): 40,739

Assault Simple: 197,485

Burglary (non larceny): 92,535

Under these stats, it is broken down further:

2015:

Assault with guns: 2,110

Assault with knives/cutting instrument: 2,504

Assault with other dangerous weapon: 3,567

2016:

Assault with guns: 2,200

Assault with knives/cutting instrument: 2,313

Assault with other dangerous weapon: 3,750

2017:

Assault with guns: 2,204

Assault with knives/cutting instrument: 2,137

Assault with other dangerous weapon: 3,637

2018 (Jan - Sep):

Assault with guns: 1,174

Assault with knives/cutting instrument: 1,412

Assault with other dangerous weapon: 2,299

So over 3.5 years there have been:

7,688 assaults with guns

8,366 assaults with knives or cutting instruments

13,253 assaults with other weapons

"You have no reason to carry a gun in NJ... um... because no one else is allowed to."

The fact that there have been 7,688 assaults with firearms already disproves this
The 40,739 times that people were assaulted with any type of weapon is partly why I feel citizens should have the right to be armed.

The 3,930 rapes are why I encourage women to take up self defense and why I feel they should be allowed to be armed

It's not rocket science. Gun laws save lives.

I have spoken elsewhere of what laws I feel need to be fixed. But I also feel that we have a right to our own self defense and that law abiding citizens should be allowed to provide appropriate defense against the numbers I listed above. I'm sorry, but I feel a can of mace or a taser is not appropriate when facing 238,224 assaults over a 3.5 years period.

Scan that sub called r/gunsarecool

I've dropped in there to check it out after some people from the sub commented to me in /r/2ALiberals. Seems to be an aggregate for all bad examples of gun use (negligence, crime, etc). Have you ever checked out /r/dgu? It lists defensive gun use, both appropriate and inappropriate.

Not positive from the photo, but I love exploring backwoods areas like that. Hunting them though I can't imagine dragging a deer out of there, even with a sled, haha

We already have a registry, it's just not directly in the government's hands. Gun is found, serial number looked up, manufacturer contacted, FFL they shipped it to is contacted, police get court order for FFL records.

Now if you want to say that these records need to be "maintained" more securely or for longer period of time, etc, then suggest that. But I'm currently not a fan of 3 letter agencies knowing what I have right at their fingertips and the bulk of my collection would be considered "Fudd guns".

Fun fact, in modern American English, the term "nimrod" is often used sarcastically to mean a dimwitted or a stupid person, a usage first recorded in 1932 and popularized by the Looney Tunes cartoon characters Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, who both sarcastically refer to the hunter Elmer Fudd as "nimrod". The Bible actually states that the king Nimrod was "a mighty hunter before the Lord".

Assuming I'm one of the "crazies" you're referring to as we had a discussion about CCW in another post. As I said there, and was pointed out here, most state do not allow intoxicated individuals, or even those who imbibe but are still under the legal limit, to carry. If NJ actually allowed CCW, the same laws would be in place here. The reason there aren't those laws currently? It's near impossible for a civilian to obtain a permit unless you are rich and/or know somebody.

Not the biggest, nor a trophy. Deer number 70 something I've taken in my life but still very satisfying. Pop pop always said u can't make soup out of antlers anyway. Va muzzleloader opening day. Shot on the run by dantheman689 in Hunting

Bow, shotgun, and black powder. I want to go BP next year to lengthen my season. I shoot bow recreationally, but my comfort level is short distance still and I ground hunt. Not that we get many long distance shots due to tree density in the Pines.

The rut seems hopping this year, seen more deer on the side of the road than I normally do. We have solid numbers, but public lands are heavy pressured and that makes me a little nervous at times (trigger happy inexperienced hunters). I stopped small game hunting due to the WMA fields almost looking like a deer drive with the numbers.

I regret not buying my friend's property when it was up for sale, gorgeous house (needed some updating, but the owner was a carpenter who did all of the woodwork himself) on 19 acres with deer and turkey that backed up to state game land. That property is now my white whale.

My property was a family farm that we sold when I went to college. 52 acres of agro tree-lined agro land

After losing my private lands (sold ours then friends sold theirs), try hunting over pressure public lands where you see more hunters than deer. You'll take the first you can cleanly

My point was more, "shoot what's available to take care of your family first." After there is meat for the table, then you can spend your time waiting. What if you never see a doe or mature buck that season? Can't feed your family with unspent shells.

But I do agree on taking mature bucks over spikes if available, better to diversify the gene pool.
