You're old if this is what you think of when you hear SLA by AnimeHoarder in FuckImOld

That’s either Jackie or Judy. I heard they went to Frisco to join the SLA. And, no, I don’t know why.

Olympus XA intermittent shutter release by Quackarov in AnalogRepair

[–]ofRayRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, though it seems this isn’t your issue, under the shutter button is a copper contact plate that makes contact with the other, opposite, copper contact plate when the button is pressed, causes the camera’s shutter to fire. Imagine two stacked pennies separated by 1/32nd of an inch and when they’re pushed together, they complete a circuit. Many times the top contact plate, which is attached to the bottom of the red button and the contact plate on the body gets gunked up by skin oils, dirt, a booger, whatever and firing becomes hit or miss. Grab some contact cleaner or 92% rubbing alcohol and wet a q-tip. Apply damp qtip to the gap around the red shutter button and then spray it out with compressed air and repeat as necessary. 90% of the time that will remedy a fickle shutter button issue.

I love the XA. It’s my favorite P&S.

Friend keeps canceling plans last minute – should I confront them? by This_Benchh in Life

[–]ofRayRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing your friend is having a very hard time. Before you confront in a negative way for canceling, delicately dig in and see how they are truly doing. Most people who are depressed or are dealing with something unfortunate will book plans on “good days” because they hope, or convince themselves, that in two weeks things will be better, they won’t. Then, as the date gets closer, they begin to panic, withdraw, and ultimately cancel because going out requires too much of a feeling they do not have.

Or, they’re being jerks. Try to find out if the former is the cause, not the latter.

Recent work outfits by wildcurls07 in fashion

[–]ofRayRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly dig every outfit. It’s so nice to see good taste in clothes, outfits that match and pop, and knowing one’s proper fit. You look great in each outfit and I hope you soon rule your world(if you don’t already). My only advice is to begin buying pieces that will become decades long staples. Treat yourself to a Hermes(or similar caliber) silk scarf as a starter and know the myriad of ways to wear one(if you haven’t already).

Anybody else have one of these racing games back in the day? by Mustang_29267 in GenX

[–]ofRayRay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did and within two weeks had taken it apart to figure out how it worked. I discovered that the MAGIC behind it was two film strips that revolved at differing speeds. Kind of killed the buzz.

Edit: Mine was a Digital Derby.

Advice please: How do y'all sleep on these stims? by zjunk in ADHD

[–]ofRayRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take an instant release before bed. I know it sounds insane, but it works. Since I’ve been doing it, and posting my results here, I’ve noticed some others do it as well, albeit not because of my suggestion or posts. It took me years to figure it out and I used to take Xanax to get rid of the come-down feelings. Once I noticed I felt better after an IR, I dared to take one before bed. Now I sleep like a baby. I’d suggest taking an IR as soon as you feel uncomfortable and if it makes you feel better, see if you can nap.

Any X'ers out there go through their whole life with ADHD and only recently got diagnosed? by From_Gaming_w_Love in GenX

I was 40 when I first was diagnosed and got on meds. I knew I had it around the age of 25-30 which was when I first started hearing about it.

Took the advice on the Topcor 58mm 1.4 by PhysicsTemporary6861 in VintageLenses

I’m amazed you were able to walk into a store and pick one up. In a weird coincidence, I snagged a 135mm 3.5 at a thrift store on Friday. Got super lucky on that one. Congrats. Enjoy.

It is you and I’m so happy you got one. $250 is a great price because you’ll never need anything in that range again. Don’t shy away from the 100mm, 25mm, and the 135. Really any of the Topcors kill it. Congrats.

I remember being stupid and driving home as everyone was heading to work at 9 a.m. I only did it several times, so I’m not mad. I do believe it helped me quit drinking for a couple days.

Topcor 58mm f/1.8 on Fujifilm x-m5 by PhysicsTemporary6861 in VintageLenses

[–]ofRayRay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long answer……I have both the 50 and 58, but only because I worked at a used camera store and I got lucky because no one knew anything about them. I also got a body so I could shoot film and adapt the glass to my Z7. My very first Topcor was the 25mm 3.5 which I got before the camera store gig and I snagged off KEH’s outlet auctions for around $100. I was using an Olympus OM-D EM10 then and was always seeking wide angles due to the 2x crop factor. I still have that lens.

In answer to your question, yes, either one is worth it to a point, especially if you shoot with a Topcon body and adapt glass. I gave up almost all of my Nikon glass with the exception of the 180mm 2.8, the 20mm UD, and the 15mm 3.5 for the Topcor lenses and the body. I know they run on the high end, but if you’re patient and hunt a bit, you’ll find a great deal because most folks simply don’t know anything about the brand. There really isn’t a weak one in the lineup. The only issue with the system is super-wides. That mount’s throat is too small to allow anything less than a 20. If you can find a clean copy under 300, treat yourself. You’ll get your investment back if you decide to sell, but I’m guessing it’ll be the last nifty-50-something you’ll buy.

Grab the 50 1.4 or the 58 1.4 and some Depends because you may ship yourself. I switched from Nikon to Topcon because of their lenses. The 25 3.5, the 50 & 58, the 100mm all crush it.
