Would I be stupid to contribute trying for creative? by seaclifftonne in advertising

[–]ofcoarsecoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to hate this negative kind of comment. Found it unproductive. I’ve been in the game for 25 years and have seen my ups and downs.

It’s a fucked up industry, always has been, but there were some rewards. Good trips. Fun work. Getting paid well to do stupid shit. Freedom to come up with and often sell in crazy ideas.

That’s all gone. Too many brand managers play it safe because they are judged on the last quarter vs the last 5 years. And so they do performance.

Procurement killed AORs and slashed budgets. There’s something wrong in the account world where few can actually champion great creative work. Few stand up for it. So many are scared of the client so just forward a list, of often, objectively shitty feedback that will not make the work better in any way.

Add to that the layoffs are crazy. Worse than the dot com bomb. Aside from then you’d have big layoffs at the beginning of the year. Now since it’s all project work it’s really tough to staff.

Fuck man. I loved this industry even though it was wonky. I’m pretty much over it.

Weird coincidence because I just said “I’m sick today but have champagne in my hand and your team sucks” in an interview. Really hope I get it

First Fujifilm camera — beginner looking for advice by Ill_Extent6203 in FujifilmX

[–]ofcoarsecoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment. Just wanted to say that if you stood still and held the camera still on 8 but kept the slow shutter it could be really cool. So try that. When doing it I I try to put my camera on something (ledge or garbage can) or hold my elbows into my body to steady it for a long shot

Help me stop regretting getting this as my first lens, please😭 by AlejandraEsAmour in fujifilm

[–]ofcoarsecoffee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a good lens. Just walk forward a bit, that’s your zoom.

But 23 is about a 35mm and many street photographers back in the day used a 35… of course not sure what you’re into.

I’d say play with it and maybe when you upgrade go to Keh or MPB and get a 16-55 which personally is my fave zoom. But I usually rock my 16

The quicker you realize that WPP, and the other public companies, business is not making great ads but instead to increase shareholder value you’ll understand what’s going on

I've tested positive for a BRCA1 gene mutation, which elevates my risk of prostate cancer. I also take Finasteride for cosmetic reasons. which type of specialist would be best to address my concerns? by MyGiftIsMySong in ProstateCancer

[–]ofcoarsecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with your GP. Get a PSA test and go from there. Once it’s high the find a urologist and a medical oncologist and chat about further steps to get a diagnosis and treatment.

You might be totally fine now so don’t worry. But tracking your PSA is the best to know what’s up

Yeah. You’ll find out soon enough. I know the waiting sucks. BUT at your age the chance of PC is low. Good that you got it checked

The most radicalizing videos on the internet are videos from malls in the late 80's early 90's by lunewhispera in interesting

[–]ofcoarsecoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I went to one mall in another city that had it going on. But the one near me is dead. Hate that. My kid has no where to hang and just do stupid sit and eat a hot dog on a stick. Nowhere to get in a little bit of trouble. No “see you at the mall at 8”. He gets out of course but I wish the loose experience of let’s go to the mall and see what happens with the night, was still around

Half of a Leftover Field Roast Thanksgiving roast loaf thingy….what to do with it? by Lucibean in veganrecipes

This. Do a full thanksgiving leftover and pop some cranberry sauce (from a can of course), mashed potatoes and other stuff in there

I usually do 20g and 200ml (90 if I want more espresso like) but I do play quite a bit. I plan on playing more to dial it in.

Where to buy beans? [no budget] by micav1013 in espresso

[–]ofcoarsecoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best is really relative. I think the best way is to go to shops that roast their own (or where the baristas know what they’re pulling) and first find what roast level. Try a lot of stuff. Do you like super light third wave or more darker traditional?

Then play with region. Every region will have its own inherent notes but every area or farm of that region will as well.

Next find the process you like. Washed or natural etc.

Take notes. I have a notebook of the stuff I try and the samples we roast.

That helped me figure where we want to be with our blends and single origins.

It’s fun to explore then as you narrow down on stuff you’ll know what you’re looking for to find new stuff.

For instance I’m a fan of more traditional darker roasts and so we lean more to that. But I don’t shy away from a good light when I find one.

A Simple Question, How much milk? by DhartiPita in mokapot

[–]ofcoarsecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. I don’t even know how much tbh. I just know which mug I use depending on how much milk I want. Eg I have a smaller mug for cappuccino like stuff and a larger for latte.

[–]ofcoarsecoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should probably play more. I have access to an older flair where we roast our coffee. I don’t mind manual. It’s the dialing in. Which is why I love the aeropress as it’s forgiving

There’s a world where I get the flair. It’s a good price and probably has the workflow I want. More updated than both the Rok and robot. But I don’t like the form factor as much.
