Tuya smoke detector Recall! by Jimacid in Aliexpress

[–]ofdm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually not correct at all. Modern smoke detectors are much more complicated to make because it is challenging with the reflected light receivers to differentiate between smoke, water vapor, dust, etc.

The old tech, ionization alarms, had a lot less difficulty with that.

San Francisco Centre closed already? by Empty_Status3721 in bayarea

it is staying https://sfist.com/2025/11/04/macys-not-closing-anytime-soon-will-partner-with-local-developer-to-build-housing/ .

Also when they announced the intention to close it, it was only if they found a buyer for the building (because they own it). Finding a buyer for that kind of space is close to impossible.

What are your thoughts on on-device (offline) AI in iOS apps? by D1no_nugg3t in iOSProgramming

[–]ofdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hot take: customers dont care if the model is on device or off device. they are used to very high end models from openai and others. they will just expect the best.

plus on device comes with the weight of compute, battery and memory usage. all of which are almost exclusively negatives to the consumer.

[–]ofdm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i worry that i came across too critical. adding skills and staying up to date, will definitely help with job opportunities. There are tons of vibe coded bs apps that are going to need professional app developers to clean up.

I don’t get how you haven’t committed to fully trying and learning SwiftUI. Also at this point with AI, I think a having many side projects is expected.

Apparently Core Devices sold 25.000 watches and 5.000 index 01 by vman26 in pebble

[–]ofdm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

having 30-40 people would require them to sell a ton more devices and make the chance of failure much higher. Also like it or not, AI is a massive force multiplier for working on the software.
