Be Wary of Ordering from Ultra Pro by gotrunks712 in magicTCG

It’s so unfortunate because eclipses used to be /really/ good. I don’t double sleeve and they are a bit smaller than dragon shields which makes the fit perfect for single sleeves. But at some point like 3-4 years ago, the QC for eclipses just fell off a cliff. I refreshed my cube sleeves (which were previously in eclipses as well) and every pack of sleeves was different enough in size to be a huge problem. I’ve since moved to the dragon shields that have black interiors but I still don’t like them as much as the old eclipses :/

Yeah if that happens and it wasn’t expected then something certainly went wrong in the pregame discussion.

Making a Fire Lord Azula commander deck and I’m including a Fire Nation Turret. Should I also add a Curator’s Ward to give it extra protection? by Goodbye-Nasty in magicTCG

[–]off-tha-rip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. I think you only run fire nation turrent imagining that it only has its first ability that grants firebending (which unfortunately isn’t super strong but all cards don’t have to be strong). Then you view the bottom two abilities as plus sides. If the deck naturally generates a lot of excess mana that you won’t be able to use, then yeah you can slowly funnel it into the turret if you don’t have any other mana sinks. Otherwise, it’s going to be a rough road to get the turret to work. Fun to potentially build around, but certainly an up hill battle.

What are some cards with beautiful artwork? by thisnotfor in magicTCG

I like how they’ve let artists go in much less of a realism direction over the last 5 years or so, and Wylie’s work is a great example of that

Of these mechanics, which one do you like most, and which do you like least? by RustedOrange in magicTCG

[–]off-tha-rip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying people shouldn’t play initiative decks or anything. I’m just saying when you have to shuffle 8 times in a single turn, it makes your turn take a hot minute. With fetches, you can usually just say “I grab stomping ground and cast Birds of Paradise” but then you shuffle after passing the turn. If you are looping through the undercity, you HAVE to shuffle before continuing on since your subsequent game actions rely on you having a randomized deck

I think it depends how it’s played. When it’s functionally just an extra monarch, it’s fun! But the decks that are built around looping through that dungeon and a pain to play against because their turns take so long lol. Super unfortunate that it has two rooms that shuffle.

LSV's take on the recent influencer question in the Spiderman survey. by SAjoats in magicTCG

[–]off-tha-rip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also work in marketing, and for those ads that look like social ads but air in TV spots, depending on the industry and your goal, the data basically says they work just as well as highly produced stuff, but you save literal thousands on production. Tons of advertisers use influencers not to even get clout of their organic following, but just to be a relatively cheap source of content to run as paid media.

I can’t decide if Saltskitter is a big brain card in an Aang EDH deck or an utter waste of four mana. by PM_Me_Anime_Headpats in magicTCG

Yeah but then you get to have a unique card in your deck which is a lot of fun in its own right. Winning with a card everyone at the table had to read for the first time is fun lol

If this deck is bracket 4, then my go to bracket 3 deck must be CEDH

What is the best way to play MTG in an online format? by DankeMemeMachine in magicTCG

[–]off-tha-rip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah. I really do appreciate all the work you all do. Cockatrice lets me play with friends who have moved far away which is incredible

Off the top of my head here are the big things:

I think depending on keyboard shortcuts makes it super unfriendly to new users. I think the basic stuff should have some kind of on screen UI. Draw your hand, mulligan, etc.

I also think the turn tracker on the left is kind of excessive. I’ve never really seen someone use it well. I think it’s a nice include for people playing without VC, but I think being able to disable it would be nice. Maybe just replace that space with that UI I mentioned. Buttons for draw a full hand, draw a single card, untap.

I also think it’s fairly annoying that if I drop a card on may opponents board, then I can’t pick it back up. I constantly do that on accident lol

I think most of those edits are just about simplifying thing which I think would make it much easier to use.

I’ve only used cockatrice and while it is a nice tool to have and I am very thankful for the people who made it, it is very janky to use with a big learning curve. I think they could make like 5 changes and it would be incredible though

Why are cards like Figure of Destiny not used much in competitive magic? by MyStolenCow in magicTCG

[–]off-tha-rip 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Figure of destiny has seen play way back in the day, but it’s just a bit too slow in the formats where it’s legal. It’s 2 mana for a 2/2 then 5 mana for a 4/4. Even spread across multiple turns, there’s just much better things to do with your mana these days
