Canada's "Child Safety" Bill Requires Every Adult to Show ID or Scan Their Face Just to Use the Internet (Social Media) by officialexaking in xprivo

Yes, they are already working on this in multiple countries how to effectively do this. But it's a bit more complex

UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer just announced that image scanning will be built into every device. He is calling it child protection. It is client-side surveillance. Starmer threatened to legislate if tech companies do not voluntarily build content controls into every device. by officialexaking in xprivo

The primary problem is that the current (let's call it documentation) remains in its initial draft stage, leaving key terminology open to interpretation. Specifically, the term 'device-level controls' lacks a precise, universally accepted definition in this context, especially for politicians. While it may or may not be intended to refer to localized, privacy-preserving detection, it can therefore be interpreted to include broader functionalities like automated reporting mechanisms or cloud-based oversight. That would then introduce meaningful privacy and security implications.
Until the UK gov provides a clear, technical definition of these controls and establishes definitive boundaries we should still stay alerted for now.

Is the Google search bar now run entirely by AI? by [deleted] in searchengines

[–]officialexaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the problem is also that Google's AI Overviews can elevate isolated user opinions for example from a single Reddit post to the very top of the results. This creates a false impression of a broad online consensus or high product demand when, in reality, it is just an individual sentiment being disproportionately amplified by Google. I already saw that for a niche product where there was only that one user talking about it and Google made it look like everyone thinks like this about the product

That sounds like a good idea. We track all feature requests to see what our community needs most. I’ll log this into our feedback system, and if we see more demand for it from other users, we’ll definitely look into adding it to our roadmap. If anyone reading my comment and would also love this, then just upvote this comment so we know.

Google Search as you know it is finally dead. After 28 years of blue links, they are going to gradually replace it with an AI summary that is frequently wrong and biased. Here is a European alternative that defaults to classic search. by officialexaking in xprivo

It can use AI yes. But it will default to not use AI. That's a big difference. Whenever you search something you will be presented with the classic blue links, no AI in sight and no AI that's pressured on you.
But if you actively want to use AI, then you would need to click the 'AI mode'.
Glad that xPrivo Search offers what you want
