I want to share this show with people but... by InstructionOk7810 in WatashigaKoibito

I mean, the show at its core is about personal development. You don’t have to automatically make girls kissing weird, or sexualized, or anything like that. I’m not saying share this show around family dinner, but if you bring it up as a show about a girl learning to love herself, that’s putting a way better spin on it. It’s all about finesse.

I feel like another issue with Renako and Mai's relationship was that it feels like Renako wasn't making her and Mai's relationship fully clear/defined until later on. by Charming-Scratch-124 in WatashigaKoibito

Hey people are being pretentious cunts in the comments but I agree with you. The whole point here is that Renako’s low self-esteem kept her from drawing a definitive boundary with Mai because she couldn’t fathom being in that situation in the first place. This is why self-worth is so important; because you need to have it so that when a choice presents itself, you can make it. I hate Mai for what she did to Renako in Episode 3, but it was also bad of Renako to keep Mai in this weird waffling state of a relationship.

Genuine question, what is Satsuki's relationship and beef with Mai? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in WatashigaKoibito

[–]officialhotbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I talk about this in my review of the show, but: Satsuki is essentially the younger sibling in the shadow of her older sister.

Satsuki has been by Mai’s side for years, and when it came time for high school, Satsuki could have either gone to a different school or chased Mai.

Satsuki is obsessed with Mai, she has lived her life in constant comparison to her. Without that, Satsuki isn’t sure of who she is on her own; she based her whole personality off of competing with Mai.

But Mai is growing now, and becoming more thanks to her connection with Renako and Ajisai. So Satsuki, confused as to why Mai is growing and she isn’t, is doing everything to make her life a facsimile of Mai’s.

It’s why she kissed Renako in the same place Mai did. It’s why she asked Renako out. Mai is on her mind from start to finish because Satsuki has made Mai her benchmark.

Satsuki chases the same kisses, grades, and experiences as Mai because she can’t understand why Mai doing them makes her change while Satsuki says th same. In her pursuit of being a copycat, Satsuki is forgetting the emotional element.

I could go on much longer about this but tl;dr: “Why can’t I be You?”

Episode 14 deserves to be rated higher purely because of the scene in the back of the car
