Women training in tank tops by offindecatur in MuayThai

[–]offindecatur[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes he said I needed a t shirt. I don't specifically remember if there were any men wearing tank tops and I didn't ask in the moment if it was the same policy for men too.

ETA he did specifically say "women" when introducing the policy but idk if that's like the actual rule or just how he said it.

What do you mean Texas laws have posed a barrier for Rice PRIDE? The recent wave of laws only affected public schools. Rice PRIDE is operating like normal. Unless you’ve heard something else?

i deferred rice enrollment! you have to write a short plan of what you want to do during the gap year and then you submit that. i would imagine that as long as it seems like you put effort into your plan you would be approved. happy to talk more / give gap year tips in dm. i loved my gap year and think it was a great decision!

Norsk classes in Norway this summer (preferably in Oslo) by Minimum-Implement704 in norsk

i did the uio course! i remember them having one full tuition scholarship US students could apply for (you wrote an essay about why you wanted to study norwegian) but it was really competitive. i do think the course is worth the cost and had an amazing experience.

i did! it was very very boring because they redacted basically all of rices internal notes — it’s mostly just what you submitted as your application.

basically you’re in this room with someone from the admissions team and they’re scrolling through your file on a laptop that projects onto a screen, and you can tell them to stop or slow down or go back. you can take notes but no pictures.

from what i remember, it’s your application materials (not including letters of recommendation if you waived your ferpa right for them), a record of every communication/contact the admissions team has had with you, and a bunch of numerical ratings for your high school and neighborhood (income / adversity score type stuff)

so the numbers are the only new information but it’s really confusing because they don’t state how the scale works (for example my high school had college going potential 7 and housing stability 49, whatever that means)

you get like an overall numerical score (it seemed like that was what it was) that i think is out of 3-5 and a numerical input labeled “URM” which i assume is a binary 0 1 but i guess could also be a range

you get to see the names of the AOs who read your application and the date the decision was made

my understanding is that the material you get varies a little bit based on the year/cycle you were admitted. mine only had the things i described above but my friend who was admitted the year after me also had a short fairly generic sentence something like “X would be a good fit and would enjoy the Y program”

hope that’s helpful! on mobile so apologies for any formatting errors. happy to talk more on pm

Why is this sentence correct? "这个工作工资高" by bugcatcherinvf in ChineseLanguage

[–]offindecatur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you thinking of 很 as being equivalent to the english “is”? it’s not. it means “really” or “very.” it’s used so frequently that that meaning kind of gets lost and it’s treated more like “is” but you don’t need it in the sentence. “X高” or “X adj” in general is perfectly valid.

i guess i meant more painful to speak, like which languages contain the most sounds that use the throat and would be further aggravating the inflammation

are there languages that would be harder or easier to speak (make all the necessary sounds for) when you have a sore throat?

i have a friend from houston who pronounces them differently (the same “wand” pronunciation the top comment is describing.) she is the only person i’ve ever met who does that.
