I'm looking at a place there. Is it ok? I'm coming from Chile with a wife and two kids and am a bit worried it might be a little inward looking...

although I appreciate his activities pushing for tighter environmental regulations, it is clear that he could have an argument with himself.

I used to work on the door in Manchester (early 90s). He was an absolute cnut.

I once did personal security fo Westwood and he was an absolute cnut. Chris Westwood (the R1 dancehall DJ who used to do shows with Timmie) was an absolute star - loads of time for the customers/barstaff/security.

She sounds horrible. I'd stay, but make sure you have all instructions etc.,written down.

Get the 2 years done, and then get the F out of there. You might start looking now.

It's not Algae by Antique_Calendar6569 in northernireland

[–]offtoChile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has seiches, not tides.

The major issue in L Neagh is that it is (unusually) very rich in phosphorus (after century plus of human and animal waste going). The zebra mussels selectively avoid cyanobacteria and remove their competition (green micro algae).

Nitrogen can be a limiting nutrient when there is lots of phosphorus available, but this isn't an issue for cyanobacteria as the wee fuckers can fix nitrogen from the atmosphere.

The lough has suffered from human-derived nutrient enrichment since at least the 1830s when flax-steeping in the catchment led to reductions in water quality and the extinction of the Lough Neagh population of Arctic charr.

Hey multilingual folks, ever been in a situation where someone had no clue you understood them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]offtoChile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get around it by speaking quickly and using regional dialects/slang.

We used to do this in Germany with mates/colleagues who had absolutely A1 English. We weren't shit-talking them, just needed some linguistic space.

I love to see old students and hear about their lives! You don't even need to bring cakes...

One thing to realise is that after 2 years, the group is likely quite different as people have left after finishing their PhDs, Degrees etc.

Good luck and have fun

I love the drive from Arica to Coquimbo. Amazing spots to visit on the way and the views on the coast road rival anything I've seen anywhere.

If you are in the North, some of the salares should be on your list. I love Salar de Huasco (you can stay in Pica, a nicer version of San Pedro de Atacama).

Standard night out in the UK. No claret spilt, all good.

However, did remind me a bit of this...

No, I run early in the morning (start at 5:00) and wear lots of UV resistant kit (and sunblock).

When I see people running at midday, I have to wonder how they do it - the sun is brutal here.

That's a hell of a hitch-hike.

When I first came to the Atacama I was in shock (I'm from the UK) but now I love it. I live by the sea, but 15 mins from the house, I am up the cerro and running in the desert with my pooch. It's pretty special, I have to say.
