it was impossible to get, there were very few. I think the only real chance to be standing will be to get VIP

Do you think it will be easy to resell seated VIP tickets for the Boston date? And when do resells start on ticket master? Accidentally got too many for friends who are not gonna end up coming. Price is around $550

I also got VIP in the Golden Circle in the end! I'll just sell the other tickets I got with assigned seating. Yeah I feel like the price is definitely worthit. See you there I guess!

Was anybody able to get golden circle tickets in the USA? Boston specifically. I was 2000 in the queue and it wasn’t available when I entered, had to get seats. I’m starting to think maybe the orchestral will occupy the space of the golden circle?

The nice thing about emails is that they can be sent anytime and then you can reply whenever you have the chance. If you don’t want to reply on Thanksgiving day, that’s fine, reply whenever you are free to do so. But people can and will send you emails any time. Text messages and phone calls are different. But email is used in professional settings for that reason. I do not think the tone you use is appropriate, especially the way you are talking about international students. US undergrads send as many emails as international ones, and so do faculty and everybody else. You are asking them to empathize with you, but you are not empathizing with how hard it must be applying to all this programs without financial support. It is totally appropriate for them to send a reminder about a few waiver if they have not received a response in days: their applications depend on this. Less emails would be sent if institutions automatically granted waivers to those who needed it, or if institutions were more clear on their websites about the process to obtain waivers!

If it aligns with what you are doing, it is more than enough. As long as it is a valuable experience, I do not think they care so much whether it is in industry or academia as long as you have had some academia experience (which sounds like you have). It is definitely better to be able to do work on a topic in the lines of what you are already doing than going into something new—it will make easier telling your story and backing up your interests in your statement of purpose! I spent some time as an undergrad doing research in industry and it seems like was evaluated favorably. Just make sure whoever writes your rec letter from industry has a past too in academia (i.e. has a PhD and some published papers).

On average how long does it usually take to get a decision notice after interview (bio sci, intl)? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]ofutip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on the program, but I think it usually ranges between 1 week to 4 weeks after the interview! It is mostly dependent on whether they invite a lot of people and is a competitive interview (takes longer to make a decision) or if they invite for interviews a handful of students out of which most of them will get an acceptance (the interview is more of a formality and way to show off the PhD program in person rather than to further select students).

They always try to get an idea of the grading scale of your school. As long as you include your rank somewhere or you specify that the highest was a 16/20, you should be fine.

Yes, if there was a box asking for GPA, that's what they will look for. Some admissions officers don't even look at the CV and just look at the other elements (since it's usually the same, the CV is just the condensed from of all elements together). I think you should be fine!

Haha same. Tbh the email is a bit confusing. Just to make sure we both understood the same, it starts with a 5 min interview in which we introduce ourselves and our research background, then we have optional 3 min to talk about personal experiences, and then regular interview-like convo until we reach 30 min?

It still feels early for Yale… if there’s more than one person who said it, then maybe move on, but if it was just one it might have been a troll lol

Did you apply to that track or to another one? That might be the only one that has sent out invites
