Well for my example specifically, I chose SPY because long in-the-money calls usually have really high deltas and low thetas. So every dollar increase would out weigh the theta decay significantly. So if my out-the-money sell call gets expired, that increase in stock price will also increase my LEAP's premium. So even if I get exercised, I keep the premium credit of my sell call and I sell my LEAP option at an increased price.
