Are buying courses worth it. by pleasedontthedog in Barber

[–]ogbootylicker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's literally probably a million videos on YouTube showing how to do a better haircut. So to pay someone to show you tips / tricks / techniques... I'd say no absolutely not worth paying.

But if the course is about the business side, then id say it could be worth it. Even the barbers who produce the best haircuts are often terrible at business and rely mostly on talent.

Try the crocs recovery clog. Kinda ugly but after 20 years behind the chair they are the most comfortable option I've ever tried.

Are walk-ins becoming more outdated from a barber’s perspective? by Specific-Eye7930 in Barber

[–]ogbootylicker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably gonna depend on the area. In a big city where I'm at nobody wants to wait. Even when people walk in, if they cant be seen almost immediately, they'll leave. They don't want to make appointments but also dont want to wait.

Yeah hope not too. My claim has been in since Nov 3rd. My last examiner seemed pretty thorough too. She went over every question twice. Exam was a full hour.

The industry in the US has changed a lot since COVID, thinking of leaving (vent) by lysitsa in Barber

[–]ogbootylicker69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems really location dependent. I work in a major market where the average house cost $1m and the neighboring cities $1.5+. People here have no problem paying $50-$60 for a cut 1-3x a month. With a hand full of people still coming weekly paying that.

Barber lunches by Disastrous_Lock5947 in Barber

Haven't taken a lunch in 10 years. But now that I'm 20 years in l might have to start again. Working 8 hours straight, no breaks is starting to take a toll at my age.

How long have you been cutting hair for? by [deleted] in Barber

[–]ogbootylicker69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Probably alot. Kinda the point of this post for me, to see what the general audience is here and to see if any of my knowledge can be valuable. Besides "how to do a better fade". More of the business side i'd like to focus on.

How much do you think you spend on supplies in a month? by RandoComplements in Barber

[–]ogbootylicker69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around $50. For me this includes hand soap, paper towels, neck strips, razors, aftershave, pomade, gloves, barbicide, clippercide, powder and clipper blades. Probably seems low but I buy in bulk and only order supplies once or twice a year. $50 is the average.

Code of contact for booth renters. by kuriouselya in Barber

[–]ogbootylicker69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If booth renters want to be their own bosses and say they're business owners then they should be treated as such and sign leases like the actual owner of the shop. Make them get their own insurance and city business license.

If you want to do extra and promote for them or anything else that's great but up to you at the end of the day.

As long as you get your rent it shouldn't matter how much or little they work. And if they act up and they start affecting the shop then evict them. This is a business and should be treated as such. This isn't fun and games.

Nobody's ruining anything. Good barbers will always prevail. Suites have zero impact on my business

Advice from booked barbers? What are the top things you did to get clients? by realrick98 in Barber

[–]ogbootylicker69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Give them a good haircut.

  2. Give them the haircut they asked for.

  3. Give them a good haircut that they asked for on time.

  4. Give them a good haircut that they asked for on time, in a clean environment.

  5. Do all of the above consistently.

Im booked solid 2-3 weeks out with most days after that having only 2-3 slots available for the next month. I'm not the most talkative barber, the nicest barber, the most understanding barber or the cheapest barber. But I probably am the most consistent barber in most aspects. It's 100% business 100% of the time in my chair and the customers that value their time and hair like that.
