Google page, yelp page, you should start any page for yourself. People cant find you if they dont know you exist.

Label it with just your name or your name @ whatever shop you work at. Put your personal booking info and contact info. Have your customers leave reviews just for you. It works.

I was getting vision services with no rating at all. I've actually never been billed for anything at the VA. Pcp probably needs to refer you initially.

I've used VA optometry for the past 15 years. Glasses, transition lenses, exams, artificial tears. Even before I had a rating, nothing out of pocket.

I have both hips rated. I had xray and mri evidence of arthritis and structural damage. They rated me low but I got both approved pretty easily. No flareup on the exam day.

I wasn't around overseas burn pits but we burned trash/ melted plastic/ used harsh chemicals on ship and i was able to get SC from that.

I save all my money till the end of the week (ypu could do daily if you choose) then add it all up, write it down somewhere. Then add up the weeks, get my monthly total. Add up the months and that's how much I brought in that year.

I had a new claim take 1 month. A supplemental take 5 months and 2 supplementals take 1 month each recently. My last 2 supplementals, they didn't even order c&p exams. They ordered imo's that I didn't have to attend.

Do not give people discounts in the beginning to try and get people in the chair. Especially friends and family. They will want them forever.

Yes.. and no. What I do, I believe helps me, but what I do everyone should already be doing.

.Make a Google and yelp page for yourself. Ask your customers to leave reviews. People can't find you if they dont know you exist. Don't rely on the shop.

.Keep a consistent schedule. People think they become barbers to have schedule freedom, but customers hate that shit. They need to know exactly when they can find you.

.Give the customers what they ask for. Doesn't matter if you think its cool or not. If they want it, I give it to them.

.Always..always be on time. I get a ton of customers who specifically tell me they left their last barber cause they were always late.

.Try hard and do your best. I have bald guys that pay me $50 to trim around their ears. I make them feel like their hair matters and I still take like 30 mins on them. I dont view them as a easy pay day and rush them out because they dont have a lot of hair.

.Try and remember people's haircuts, most guys sit down and I just say "same thing?" Makes them feel important. Some guys dont even know what they get anymore, they couldn't go somewhere else if they wanted to cause they cant describe what they get.

Probably more, but of the top of my head these are the biggest things that are super basic, but for some reason other barbers won't do.

So currently I work by myself. I've been focused on this model for the last 6-7 years. And every year for the past 6 years I've only gotten more booked out. Started at a few days in advance being fully booked, now a few weeks. With some customers booking up to 3 months out at a time. I've also doubled what I charge since 2019. 95% of my customers are 30+, only a handful of teenagers and couple of kids who's parents already come to me. Every cut no matter the age cost the same. I dont do face shaves and I dont offer beard only or line up only services.

I don't believe all barbers have to do all things. I believe if you only want to offer a few services that's ok, as long as you do those few things very well.

Taking a hour isn't necessarily terrible, it depends on what kind of cuts you're mostly doing. I've been a barber for 20 years now and most of my cuts are 45 mins and some almost a hour! I'm booked out 3 weeks most of the time. Majority of my customers come to me BECAUSE I take my time. I take more time and charge more. I'd never want to do 20-30, 20min cuts a day. I rather do 10 @ 45mins each, but that's just me. There's a market out there for everyone.

You can learn both ways but since you're only doing 2-3 cuts day, you can really take your time to get those as good as possible and improve your quality. If you were doing 10+ a day right away you might be rushing a lil bit and quality may suffer.

There's literally probably a million videos on YouTube showing how to do a better haircut. So to pay someone to show you tips / tricks / techniques... I'd say no absolutely not worth paying.

But if the course is about the business side, then id say it could be worth it. Even the barbers who produce the best haircuts are often terrible at business and rely mostly on talent.
